DTG is going to announce a brand-new game thursday 5th. Can't get out of my mind the idea that it is going to be the UE5 version of TSW. What do you guys think?
"On our line-up this year, we're starting this party with a brand-new non-TSW game announcement, developed by our Dovetail Games team, which we've been waiting to unveil for some time!" I don't think the new non-TSW game is going to be TSW UE5. I'd expect it to fall somewhere within mobile, board game or VR territory.
I don't think so, I it's gonna be another rail-related non-TSW title just like the Metro thing. But it explains why TSW is getting the short end of the stick more and more in the recent months. I see a dark future ahead for it.
I keep seeing this narrative popping up, but really just don't get it. How has TSW gotten the short end of the stick? They're about to release 3 free route remasters. There are a bunch of brand new routes in development. Is is because DTG themselves have been stepping back from directly making routes and relying on third parties?
It's less about the new stuff that's going to come, but rather about how DTG is treating existing content. Some routes and packs (especially 3rd party ones) have been and still are waiting to receive updates, in some cases for months. A good example is the E94 pack, just check the corresponding feedback forum to see what I mean. DTG seems to have a huge QA bottleneck situation right now, which will only get worse the more new content is being released. Older stuff will fall even more by the wayside as is the case already.
What you mean the busy roadmap, more third party developers and new countries, route upgrades and talk of a concerted effort to fix the blurry textures?
It's been like this since time immemorial on here and UKTS previously. The worst is always about to happen and then it doesn't, then more worse things are going to happen. Maybe eventually it will become a self fulfilling prophecy.
It's right in the official announcement of the GWE release and the the upcoming Koln-Aachen and East Coastway. "with all updates completely free of charge for existing owners of the content." -DTG You're very confident and very wrong. Very aggressive too. Who peed in your Cheerios today?
Hang on you said ECW will require the remaster when it's been stated you won't. And Koln to Aachen doesn't have any new DLC associated with it!
LOL. What do you mean, "The others"? GWE is going to be free and has been stated many times by DTG. They announced both Koln-Aachen and ECW today and said that all these announced remaster updates are free. "This month, we're glad to finally release the long-awaited Great Western Express Remastered, but it's not the only route that's seeing some love - we're excited to also announce that across the next month, you'll be able to enjoy new remasters for Köln-Aachen and East Coastway, ensuring that these older add-ons get the latest lighting features, environment improvements and updated timetables to give a whole new breathe of life into the routes! We've had some fantastic feedback on our previous Remaster to the West Somerset Railway route, and we can't wait to share more with you - with all updates completely free of charge for existing owners of the content." You're picking a very strange hill to die on considering the claim I made is verifiably true based on DTGs own post.
DTG's QA and bug issues have been a recurring and consistent issues since back in the TSC days. None of this is new, and personally, I don't see any evidence that this is being caused by them developing other games or putting less effort into TSW. It has ALWAYS been like this with them.
Yes, but the new UE5 train simulator might have a completely different name. Just as when TSW released it was not a TrainSimulator announcement.
Personally I think it will be train related but not a simulator or a new iteration of TSW or whatever it might be called. Although they haven't even released the Subway one yet so it seems odd announcing yet another title.
Given the heavy development currently ongoing with TSW routes still, I seriously doubt this. I also don't think DTG is trying to play coy by saying it's not TSW related, but GOTCHA it's the new TSW instead, but not called TSW, so we're technically correct.
It’s going to be like Marvel Rival's, but with trains! Who am I kidding, probably going to be another board game.
For a few seconds also considered it could be Metro Rivals: Somewhere else (not NY) but thought it would make no sense to announce that before they release MR:NY.
If we cast our minds back to this thread from February 2025, which found the trademark applications for the game that would eventually become Metro Rivals, then there is another trade mark for an unreleased something still. Called "HEROES IN FLAMES" https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/metro-rivals-a-new-railway-game-by-dtg.88940/#post-962853
Forgot about that one- good find Firefighting sim maybe? Still seems odd that the new game being announced during FoR wouldn't be train related imo. Part of me still thinks it could be a TSW successor. Just the drop in first-party release cadence in TSW6 tells me they're working on something big- maybe it's just work on the core, maybe they just got started early on TSW7, but it feels a little different than previous years to me. Well, not long to wait for the announcement in any case
A new game, possibly transport related. As I posted in the Live article maybe some sort of city building and transport strategy game. They know how popular the likes of Transport Fever and Cities Skyline are (well the first CS at any rate), so it would make sense to look at their own take on the genre. Or maybe they dusted of Flight Sim World, though that wouldn't then be a new game. Or the one I'm waiting for, a modern remake of Lemmings 2 The Tribes, god I spent hours trying to get a perfect score on the Amiga version of that.
I asked chat GPT for some ideas. Who here has been using it recently, because I think it's got a bit of a jaded view even by LLM standards....? This was the image it came up with.
Not withstanding the horrendous QA bottleneck I do think that DTG stagger the new releases somewhat in order to make sure there’s a steady release schedule for the whole year.
Tram Sim World. Croydon Network, Blackpool Retro Tramlines from Just Trains (well, they were doing it for TSC at one point) and part of the Amsterdam network.
Tram Sim World or any Tram Simulator that’s based on real life routes would be exciting. Everything else is meh…. Not really into fictional stuff…
That sort of idea got me quite excited, somebody else said it could be some sort of Thomas the Tank separate game (hoping not) and any sort of manager/strategy type of train game, wouldn't be bothered about - but if it was a new Tram game, would be delighted with a real world network - but i'm telling myself not to think about it too much, as i'll prepare to be disappointed !!
Maybe! Although I’m sure one of the questions in the annual survey referred to a stand alone Thomas game?
Would be good to have a tram Simulator a proper one without the fictional thing DTG used to promote then stopped.
To co-inside with Metro rivals maybe its, Grand Trainismo or Mario Cart - Thomas the tank engine addition!
I'm gonna put it out there, I think chances are high it's actually Thomas, timing would actually make a lot of sense. For those not in the know there's currently a reboot of the show going on. Images of the new toys have been leaking out for the past month, and the first footage of the show itself came out I think last week. Honestly if Mattel commissioned a new game to tie-in to the new show frankly now's probably a great time to announce it. Honestly it's also I think the only thing that I feel makes sense, the supposed firefighter game is interesting, but with it being Festival of Rail I think it would be odd to have the lead in not be a rail game. If that's still a thing it probably makes more sense to announce at a outside event. US5 Train Sim is unlikely, granted not for the reasons people have gotten on OP for. I fully expect the UE5 TS will get a pompous new subtitle, and if it's called something like "Train Sim Universe" technically it actually could appear considering it's not a TSW announcement. The main reason I don't think it is the UE5 one is a combination of it just feeling a bit soon, plus the fact I'd fully expect DTG to be a bit more forward on it. Like let's be honest, they'd want to use something like "Come and see the next generation of train simulation be revealed at this Festival of Rail". Them being vague I actually think is a way to try sucker people in to watch it, while technically somewhat managing expectations. It's still vague enough to attract the normal TSW crowd who otherwise would refuse to tune in if they knew going in it was the blue bugger.
Great insight there. I’m convinced all over again. ‘Heroes in Flames’ is plural, and nothing is more plural than Thomas & Friends!
