Does anybody know where this new game announcement will be streamed? I see no live event on the Train Sim World youtube channel and the direct stream link found in the announcement email says the video is private. The event should start in 10 mins as far as I know...
Thomas again. Yawn. Great for kids though. I guess. If they can afford a PC or console after today's GPU price hikes.
There was absolutely no hype this time. Just the announcement. Of course lots of people still had a day and a bit to convince themselves it was something they wanted and not the obvious thing and will now be disappointed by what their own imaginations came up with. They will never learn.
Not seen the full announcement but not unexpected. As said, if done decently with a geographically accurate Sodor and the option to drive realistically there might be a broader appeal. But those who were expecting a more cerebral mature game will come away disappointed. No signalling sim. No tram sim. No NYC Subway sim. No multiplayer. Back to your lives and SimRail folks.
It's just as much on DTG, if not more so, they create the expectation that it's not gonna be something for the core if they keep announcing this stuff at events aimed at the core. This really should've been announced at something aimed at broader audiences, like they did for Metro Rivals frankly. I actually don't mind this on the whole to be clear, but Thomas is aimed at a different audience, and should be treated as such.
They've just created a separate forum for it: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/forums/thomasandfriends/ I guess we now know that the two Thomas DLCs were a test for this!
"We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent."
Nothing special... Good for those who enjoy it; those who don't can basically continue playing their train games normally, especially since new content and remasters are coming... People are creating expectations and wasting their time with this...
I hope people enjoy it- not for me and that's ok. This probably should have been the Thomas product all-along tbh. I think there would have been much less blowback if it had always been a separate product.
Just checking the forum to see if you predicted the above outcome prior to the announcement........can't see anything yet, but I'm happy for you to point me to it.
Reading about it on the official website, it sounds exactly like what you’d hoped for. A timetable mode if you want to treat it like a TSW game, 8 stories either adapted from originals or plausibly created, the iconic landmarks, the ability to get out and explore on foot. Sounds brilliant really! also, there’s a new section of the forum just for this game!
I haven’t got a problem with this. It is outside of the TSW franchise and will appeal to youngsters (and people like me who enjoyed the stories as a child and who’s children grew up with the Britt Allcroft version. The problem with the original one was that they build it up with a big fanfare as the big new release for TSW and made us wait for a month of other announcements before revealing it, creating a huge anticlimax among the player base. At least they appear to have learnt from this.
Fully expected and it's obvious WSR and Thomas passed the test. I hope it does well. Plenty of TSW content to look forward to. People who hyped themselves up obviously didn't learn from last time.
I would have preferred Office Manager over Thomas but ok. At least this time the Thomas game actually looks like it's suitable for the target audience, which is not me.
Yes to be fair that’s what many of us said at the time. interesting this already got its new forum section whereas Metro Rivals hasn’t. All joking aside if it’s done we’ll probably be worth a sale purchase at some point.
Hey folks - if you're curious about more information on the game, please check out our Wonders of Sodor FAQS: https://support.dovetailgames.com/h...Thomas-Friends-Wonders-of-Sodor-Announce-FAQs We'll be showcasing more of the game, and the full interactive Island of Sodor map, in our livestream at 7pm
Totally agree that anything that arouses an interest in railways for the next generation of gamers is a good thing for DTG and for TSW. So, yes, personally disappointed because I'm struggling with anxiety and depression at the moment and desperately scanning the horizon for something exciting. But as I've been trying to drum into someone's head at the DfT recently, get kids involved in the railways from an early age and your recruitment drive for staff is sorted for the next 20 years. Likewise train computer games. So 1) Boooo and 2) I totally understand and was just being selfish.
Now we also know why some updates that DTG received six months ago have not yet reached TSW players. DTG should focus on its work at TSW instead of just consoling TSW players with the same excuses over and over again. If the time that has been spent on Thomas had been invested in TSW, TSW would probably be more stable again and many bugs would have been fixed.
Sincerely hope this is it for all console players! Who cares about blurry textures when you get Thomas&Friends!
I did not stick my neck out this time but others did predict it. I deliberately kept quiet on this but I did make a joke that it would be a board game.
‘The team looked at locations throughout all eras of the brand, from publishing to content, to build the best version of Sodor. Examples include: Elsbridge Station, Tidmouth Station, and Vicarstown Station, which are variants from the publishing and content series. Some locations have had to be modified to make them fit and work with how the game works, but we have recreated these locations as faithfully as possible to the original. We have also used an original 3D map made by P.R. Wickham in 1950 for the Rev Wilbert Awdry, based on his sketches and design. Awdry used this map when introducing new railways and branch lines into the books, finding places that made sense in the topology and where they would fit. The map was 3D scanned for Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor to get the topology of the Island of Sodor. The Relief Map currently hangs on the wall in the recreation of Rev. Awdry's Study in the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum at the Talyllyn Railway. The Island of Sodor has been slightly scaled down to allow for all audiences to play. However, we have made sure all your favourite locations are in the routes, and you get the same timeless feeling of what the books and TV series showed. One of the main location differences is Knapford Station, which has had its platforms on the middle roads changed to through platforms. This is to allow it to work with the Timetable Mode and the flow of the station. Also, in some locations, the platforms and stations will seem larger and longer than in the book and TV series; this is to allow for stopping locations and to fit larger trains’ That’s fair. This is the first time it’s really been explored in a 3D interactive medium!
cool, another useless game that will replace tsw priorities in terms of bug fixes and optimizations we have to remember that blurry textures still exist on consoles and that timetable services have already been cutted-off from consoles for this reason which is unacceptable for 9th gen consoles
yes, as I commented in the festival of rail article thread, it would make much more sense to release the thomas dlcs now with the thomas dedicated game instead of tying them to tsw because imo one has nothing to do with the other
That’s a fair take. Evidently there is a market for this despite me thinking it’s a waste of time. (New Thomas game has been announced today). Sometimes I’m disappointed seeing how the origins of TSC started with primarily U.S stuff with a U.S game developer. Now we’re migrating away from that with new ideas.
