I might be jumping the gun a bit here, but with the announcement last month about steam attempting a comeback in the form of the German BR-23, I think that's the name, I've been thinking an awful lot about what the next steam engine after that will be. I really want to see a US steam locomotive after this, something like the N&W 611 (it is my avatar, after all), or a New York Central Hudson hauling a stretch of the famous 20th Century Limited. Both engines are a thing of beauty and this might be a little thing, but I really want to be able to ring the bell on a steam engine in-game, which means my choices are limited to the US.
I want UP #844, #3985, and #4014, ATSF #3751 and #2926, SP #4449, and other western excursion steam locos.
Articulateds like #3985 and #4014 might be a tad much given the current state of steam physics, but if we're going to throw in excursion steam, Nickel Plate Road #765 has gotta be high up the list. Another good testbed would be something small like a 19th century 4-4-0, perhaps a route based off the old transcontinental railroad?
These are great wish list for future steam loco's in Train Sim World. Let's see what Train Sim Germany did that improved the steam simulation physic's so it could be possible for Dovetail and Third Party Developers to create more Steam based DLC.
I think that fate of steam in TSW does really hang with the DB BR23. If it doesn't sell well, then we might have to kiss steam goodbye and if it does well, we could hope to see more. I would love to see some US steam in TSW like 611, 1225 or even a PRR K4. Would be awesome if we got the Stratsburg Railroad in TSW. Naturally (with me being a British enthusiast), I would love to see more UK steam in the game such as the LNER A4 & BR Standard 7 as well as a few tank engines like the LMS 3F 'Jinty' and the GWR Pannier Tank..
