I know it is extremely early on for the game but I can't help wondering if the other engines will appear in the game. Tidmoth sheds will definitely feel empty without Edward and Henry. The docks won't be the same without Salty and if you wanna complete the branchline line up you can't forget Toby and Daisy In the meantime it'll be fun to speculate as to which engines will appear first but I know i personally cannot wait to play this
what other engine you look forward to the most? (at least ones that isnt show in game yet) also hi Train Sim Society!
I’m pretty confidant that this isn’t a one off release and that more engines/stories will be available as paid DLC further down the line (pun intended). Fortunately my all time favourite story from my (and my children’s) childhood, Thomas and Bertie will be in the core game. I’m 67 by the way! Still a big kid at heart.
I need TOBY! Honestly, me too haha! But growing older I've really grown to love him because he's truly the only unique antagonist in the series. There are actually some videos out there that go pretty deep into his lore, and it's surprisingly interesting!
I hope we get a Stepney! Any form of A1 in the game! Imagine a DLC where you go as Rusty into the scrap yard to go and save Stepney! Or Douglas goes to save Oliver from scrap! I would love that so much!
Problem with that is Stepney hasn't been in the show since the model series. DTG would have to either get a scan of the prop, or build one from scratch in some form. Not that it would be impossible, but just dosen't make much sense when there's dozens of other characters to pick that have CGI models all ready to go. Plus I don't think there's been Stepney focused stories since the 5th season or so in 1998. (Feel like something existed for him in Series 6 or 7, but I can't remember) (Technically he did get creamed by a pink sugar truck in the 12th in a blink and you'll miss it cameo, but I pretend that didn't happen) Hate to burst your bubble, but that isn't happening, the narrow gauge extending to the other railway is infamously only a TV series thing, and it was never even used that much in the TV series. If they're going off the Railway Series then the only connection to the mainland is gonna be via the standard gauge lines. I will be curious though if they ever do stuff set on "The other railway", either for initial release or as a expansion later on. The tricky thing is the TV series always distanced itself from real life engines and locations. While the Railway Series explicitly connects to the real Barrow-in-Furness, I'm not sure how easy it would be to merge the real location with the model and CGI sets that have been done for the show.
I think personally I disagree with you on it never happening. It being a fictional series they've already scaled the island down so there would definitely be ways to do things once they get to that stage, which admittedly is a way off. The narrow gauge line something that a lot of people want and they had some good dynamics with it in the story mode. Also there are definitely avenues that can be explored within the rescue storylines which were a really good piece of story telling and really added in with the dynamic of the scrapping of steam and just the historical progression of the railways in general. I also wouldn't underestimate the value Stepney and the work with the Bluebell do with the Stepney club has on getting children more interested in railways and Thomas and friends. That little engine is a much bigger influence than you might think. I'm not saying it should be an immediate focus at all but I'm saying it's definitely an avenue worth exploring in the future.
The Thomas and Diesel models in TSW are not identical to their CGI models... They are including TV-only locations and characters...
Never said that. Are you talking the Skarloey in general, or the specific line that connects the narrow gauge into Vicarstown? Because I'm talking the latter, and there really wasn't much done besides the Stepney story. I'd argue that adapting the stories as they were in the books, with the direct mentions of the real Bluebell and their efforts would be a better way to respect that. I don't disagree, but there's legit probably 20 other CGI characters that could be considered major they'd need to do, that's years or work. And easily double that for minor and one off characters just in CGI. Plus probably another 20 for Model/Book characters like 7101, Boco, and Smudger. They still use the CGI models from the show as a base though, that's my point. When there's something like 50 characters you can pick from that already have models to choose from those characters will probably get priority. Not even just because of the models themselves, but because the fact they have said models indicate they've appeared in the show more recently.
