I looked for a feedback threat but didn’t find one… On this line, IRL, both the 802 and the Voyager operate lots of services to and from PZ yet there are none in the route..just 150s and a freight train running PZ-StA. The Voyager routes north from Ply (was until recently PZ-Ed eg] as you have to change at Ply to get to Pad on those trains.. An 802 will go direct from PZ-Pad. On the GWR line remastered, from Pad the PZ services are HSTs. Can’t the HST therefore be placed into both the Riviera and Cornwall Local lines (layers) as this would join up the dots for that route. Ie.. Pad-Rdg, Ex-Ply and StA-PZ… all HST and vis a vis, in reverse. The 802s could be scheduled on PZ- Pad via StA, Ply annd Bristol. For eg… The Pad-Pz route cuts across country from Newbury to Taunton and then to Exeter so there’s no clash with the HST. The 802 can only be used on the Riviera Line. I know this is a game but as it is you have to use three different trains to get from Pad-PZ when IRL you can do it on one train. I hope I’ve explained that clearly I’m also not criticising the game just point out where it might be improved.
The period of the route is in the 90s/BR era, so naturally you won't see any modern trains Of course, they could try to do a remaster for a modern era but that's another story. If you're on PC, there's a 2019 timetable mod, by the way.
Ah ok mate I didn’t know that… thx.. I’m on PS5 and new to this…I thought it’d be ‘joined up’.. I don’t suppose it matters much TBH ..
Assuming you don't have it, if you get Northern Transpennine then you get layers on WCL representing the intercity services. They are way off in terms of accuracy though, as they use Class 47s (and 45s and 40s for some reason) before they even had high intensity headlamps, let alone the fact that they are pulling the MK1A coaches and are still in their 1970s blue. The reason for this is that at the time WCL was released, NTP was the only other route available offering intercity traffic that wasn't present day. With the more recent Just Trains content I would love to see a case where a hypothetical WCL remaster swaps the services out to using the Intercity branded 47s and MK2Fs, but for now this is what we have to deal with. Also that said, if historic routes are your thing then the Just Trains routes are the magnum opus of said content. Currently they have Blackpool - Preston & Ormskirk and Preston - Carlisle released, along with a Class 86 + MK2F pack. Coming down the line they're releasing Preston - Crewe and Carlisle - Whitehaven, all set in the mid 1980s.
An up-to-date modern remake & timetable (2025) on the WCL featuring the 802 would be a dream come true. I think if that was to happen they should launch it with the original timetable too, to keep the nostalgia from the 90’s. It’s a similar theme on the GWR (R) with the diesel of legend’s pack, taking the rolling stock back into the 80’s.
They would have to add the the 2nd track from Truro to St Austell though. And because it a Rivet route we would probably have to wait for them. DTG will only remaster DTG routes.
Personally I really don’t see the appeal of driving the 802 through Cornwall. You have no traction sound in the cab (prototypical) and the wheel resonance doesn’t really pick up until about 70 MPH. A better option would be the reworked HST from GWE, now you can run with the cab doors open. Though a Paxman Valenta HST powering through Cornwall would be even better.
On a PS5 can you have/buy JustTrains software? As I’m new here, I’m just feeling my way about. I have no affinity for any particular area but as a kid my trainspotting was EMUs and Brush 42 and some Warship class (plus others I don’t remember) on the Waterloo line just outside Basingstoke. The days when you could get a cabbie at a station… We used to play footy or cricket on a field next to the railway line. I digress as is usual. My recent interest as I’ve stated before is based on my frequent journeys through mostly London or Birmingham/Bristol back to PZ. I was sure that the Cornwall route was mostly twin track, if not all, unlike the game itself… but I now know why that is.. Lastly, I’ll have a butcher’s at the Northern Transpennine. THx
Of course, the only stuff you can't get on PS5 (like all consoles) is community made mods. JT releases are not mods
Plus regardless of the developer, all content is sold through DTG. It’s not like TSC where 3P’s often sell independently. DTG have taken firm control of the commercial operation.
I don't know, I think the appeal for me personally is just because its what I see when I look outside currently, and to be able to drive them in itself is something cool. But there's nothing particularly good about those trains compared to other ones for me, I actually kind of hate them in real life I would still like the route to be remade in modern times with IETs+HSTs, maybe not 2025 though, instead some time before they took away many of the semaphores recently.
I would like it for the Voyagers, HSTs & 158’s. That being said the benefit of an ultra modern version would be potential for 175’s.
I forget about the 175s, quite interesting, I've only ever seen one in Laira depot but I think they are doing actual services about now. Not sure if its a trade off Id want for HSTs, but something to think about. And that you mention 158s, I really do hope we see a GWR one at some point soon. Its up to Skyhook but we could do with it, can put it on Riviera, I feel like I see them even more than 150s these days.
The 802 on wcl with the modded TT has been very enjoyable, I quite like the IETs in general.. Did 1A82 then continued the journey on Riviera line...very satisfying! Ive said it in other threads a V2 of WCL with extension to Plymouth and a 2024-2025 TT with the inclusion of the castle sets from the upcoming farewell tour would be fantastic but would like the Riviera to pair up to said TT as you could cover some miles across 2 dlcs! shame you are on PS5 and cant use the mod, as this just feel right when using the DLC
Someone gets it. IET’s are a delight to drive. We already can run a HST on the route though, we can’t run a 802 officially via timetable mode. If this route was ever remade I would hope to see two built timetables, so we have the option to pick from modern or 90’s traction. The 90’s timetable could include an updated HST as you desired. Exactly. This how I feel about it. I do this journey from London Paddington a couple of times a year IRL to visit family, so I want to drive what relates to me IRL. I wasn’t old enough to experience what it was like to ride a 150 on WCL during that period.
