Following hot on the heels of the Koln-Aachen remaster, a simple question, which one German route would you like next to see be remastered* and why? *When I say remaster, I'm referring to at least a TOD 4 upgrade as well as a brand-new updated timetable featuring all the latest rolling stock that has since come to TSW as a bare minimum. For me, it's a rather tough choice, while I'd love to see either Hamburg-Lubeck or Munich-Augsburg, I think my number one choice would be Ruhr-Sieg Nord just because of its unique gritty industrial atmosphere as well as seeing a busy Hagen Hbf - plus it's an interesting route overall. What's everybody's favourite choice?
If it was a full remaster with new scenery like GWE My top choice would be Hamburg - Lubeck. I think Hamburg and Lubeck are cool, but the in-game scenery is quite poor and I don't think it would look particularly interesting without a complete remake of the scenery to bring it to TSW 6 level quality. I also hope that making new assets would increase the chances of another route from there (such as Vogelfluglinie or Marschbahn) Runner up would be Main Spessart Bahn, I think the port area especially would be interesting with better scenery If it was a TOD 4 upgrade and new timetable but unchanged scenery I would go with Ruhr-Sieg Nord, I like the vibe of the route and I think it is the best German freight route. I think it might be better to wait until TSG's BR 232 is released though so it could be included in a new timetable Runner up would be Tharandter Rampe once the BR 23 releases, then it can layer on as static rolling stock at the museum and/or do railtours
I was torn between Ruhr Sieg Nord and Rapid Transit. RSN I enjoy this route. It’s pleasant but definitely showing its age now. Rapid Transit is a brilliant run but again it’s really needing upgraded to TOD4 and the sounds of the loco really need updated. This train has the worst horn in all of TSW. You can hear it looping when you hold the horn down for a few seconds. Sounds choppy and very noticeable. I do love this route though. Especially the underground part. Each station is really well designed. DTG need to man up and start doing some more underground routes.
I voted H-L because that would really benefit the BR218 timetable, which i've never played cause of the awful lighting. RSN or MSB would be my runners up. RT would need a complete rebuild- if they were gonna do that it probably would have happened when they extended from Riesa to Leipzig. I think it would be a good route if brought up to modern standards.
In that order: HRR, RRO and Tharandter Rampe for me. I keep thinking that Hauptstrecke Rhein-Ruhr would be brilliant if done right. It's quite short, but a VERY lively place in real life. In order to be brilliant, however, it would need more than just new the lighting - it would need the scenery redone, especially in Essen but basically all around, and a new timetable. There's a timetable mod out there already that shows what's possible. There are so many sections with lots of tracks running in parallel that you could squeeze a lot of activity in such a small space. Rhein-Ruhr Osten is kind of similar. The route as is is better made than HRR, so the scenery isn't that much of a factor, but with a new timetable and especially the atrocious sudden elevation changes in the tracks removed it could be great. Tharandter Rampe is the best-made of the three. The area around Dresden and Chemnitz are very good, and the route has a good length. Any update to any of the listed routes would be welcome though.
I'd go for Aschaffenburg-Gemünden maybe with the new flatter ramp and a new tunnel (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spessart_Ramp) Also I would actually love to see this route extended to Hanau and Würzburg (as these major station layouts are already there in other DLCs) Actually a thing that is probably never going to happen but: a merge with Würzburg-Fulda to get more gameplay options!
I wanted to pick RSN or Tharandter Rampe at first, but these are except for the lighting still decent routes. MSB on the other hand could be a really good route but it just isn't, it needs way more than a lighting overhaul so I chose that one. I personally really like the idea of this route, especially with the old steep ramp and the banking services, it makes this route quite unique in terms of gameplay. So the new route with the tunnel would be a big no for me, the remaster should preserve the old ramp and the banking services.
munchen augsburg the route rn feels so bland and also is missing so many services aswell so new timetable is in need aswell and extention of the route is needed aswell with ulm and the s bahn tunnel
I voted for Tharandter Rampe, because it's already so very good. Probably the best German route of the TSW2 era after its stablemate Dresden-Riesa. Only the dismal old-model lighting is holding it back, without really needing much else besides TOD-4.
Dresden to Chemnitz or Rapid Transit. Both routes offer a unique experience. RT with its mix of stations above and below ground, and Chemnitz with its unforgiving speed changes.
I still love and play RSN even with its older lighting, however definitely my number one pick for a German remaster!
If it will be a "remaster" like SKA, please don't touch any route at all! If it's gonna be a remaster like GWE, then I would love to see a remaster of MSB.
Honestly, RSN is already good enough that "just" a TOD4 upgrade is a huge win for everyone. Especially for console players.
I agree with the above in RSN being one of the very few routes I can go back to & not be put off by much of anything. It’s such a great route & the dullness of older lighting actually goes hand in hand with the atmosphere of the route. H-L is one I also like & whilst I’d love to see it get redone, I think it would be a waste. The route (IMO) is akin to our single Dutch route. It’s really good at what it does, but doesn’t do much. MSB on the otherhand is a very enjoyable line & probably one that needs a remaster the most. It was once my most played route but unfortunately it no longer stands up on its own. DCZ is another I’d like to see remastered. I always saw this route as an evolution of RSN but it never quite hit the mark for me & the current ToD system it has really doesn’t do it any favours. Honestly though, the thing that puts me off any German content right now is the texture issue, with the UK stuff there are still some routes playable & the ones that aren’t can mostly be mitigated by removing one layer. German content is much more effected & impossible to resolve from a player perspective. Rather than remasters I’d personally like to see the upcoming ‘fix’ be mass applied to German content so I can enjoy more recent releases.
I voted Rapid Transit as it quite different from most of the other German routes. My other choice would have been Hamburg Lubeck or Tharanter Rampe. I am going against the grain here but I have never got into RSN, it always felt like half a route, HRR and MSB I barely ever drove. RRO could be a nice one for an upgrade.
I chose MSB. There are services on this railway that require an auxiliary locomotive to push heavy freight trains up to 2% gradients. This heavy duty service was performed by the 151 series locomotives. I would like to separate this locomotive as DLC and make it part of MSB.
Nowaday I mostly play TOD4 routes. Today I did something different, I drove 2 services on DRA pre remaster on TSW3. First trip was early morning in October, there was already sunrise, but everything was way to dark, especially with the in cab camera. Second trip was in june around 2 pm and this actually look quite good, even more with the outside camera. For TOD4 routes I prefer early morning drives, at mid day, everything is so bright. For TOD3 routes I prefer mid day, so in conclusion, we need TOD5, which has to be a combination of TOD3 and TOD4.
Yes, I would also go with Main Spesssart Bahn. The Gameplay that can be experienced on this route is really varied and interesting.
With currently 34 votes, RSN seems to be a clear favourite. But, it's also interesting to note that RRO is currently the least favourite as shown from this poll - ironic considering both routes are next to each other and share Hagen as a start/end point. Anyway, it got me thinking for just a moment. While out of the scope of a remaster, seeing these two merged would be ideal (I've always thought RRO has been let down by its small size) - plus add in the small single-track branch to Iserlohn from RSN too.
Interesting also to see some of the discussion here, many valid points I agree with. In my opinion, while every route listed I'd like to see updated to TOD 4, some have timetables which are already strong, for me, namely Tharandter Rampe and Hamburg-Lubeck (though perhaps I'd like to see AI traffic at Dresden Hbf and Hamburg Hbf, respectively updated to incorporate newer rolling stock). But yes, I'd also say some routes I'd like to see remastered as a priority more than others which share a common start/end point or region. For example, with Leipzig-Dresden now, it would be an obvious choice for Rapid Transit at one end, and Tharandter Rampe at the other. Then, of course, you have MSB as another logical choice considering its relation with Kassel-Wurzburg and Frankfurt-Fulda, plus with it's very interesting gameplay as echoed by others. Sadly, I have to agree with you on this actually. I've had a slight break from German routes in the last couple months for the same reason, with exception of the new SKA remaster. But yes, getting the texture issue sorted would be the major priority for me too so we can go back to enjoying our content fully without compromise.
I was disappointed and surprised that Hamburg Lubeck wasn't remastered when the 218 came out. I preferred RRO to RSN at the time.
They better do a complete remake from both routes together with the branch line to Iserlohn included. I believe the N-wagen from Stuttgart also fits this route, so does the 425, if they keep the time period the same.
I do quite like RRO but Bremen quickly replaced it for me, though if you like the S-Bahn on RRO I can see why it would be favoured. I think RRO needs the SEHS treatment, needs to go a little further in mileage.
