I saw there was an unintentional update to SEHS. Does this mean SEHS gets a TSW6 update with suspension physics and announcements? Please say yes!
Stand to be corrected, but I don't believe that is the intention. I believe any updates around SEHS will be a test bed for combatting blurry textures in the game.
Seems like from the wording of the DTG announcement it was an untended release of some of Firefly's updates to the route. Which we will soon be able to enjoy in full working order and as intended on the upcoming Medway Valley.. Maybe an SEHS refresh en-large to go along with Medway?
I think that's the plan since Firefly are layering the SEHS stock in their route. I commend them for doing that!!
I probably was reading too much into the wording "some really great improvements". In my mind that can only mean: more bouncy trains
The class 375, 465 and 395 have had suspension and improved rain effects added with the latest update, I don't know if there are any additional improvements yet They don't have announcements at the moment
Hello folks, We initially planned to discuss this in the February Roadmap, but it was still to early at that point in time. The Firefly team has been making excellent progress on preliminary route optimisation, supporting long-term performance improvements, while also bringing improvements to the content included alongside the Medway Valley release. It's really impressive work; the way it landed today was unfortunate, but once ready, it will be a valuable update. Just to set expectations, neither the Firefly team nor we refer to this as a remaster. Since there are multiple improvements, we can't reveal all the details of their work yet, and some of this work is still ongoing. We'll provide more updates in the March Roadmap. All the best, Jan
Someone in the know posted we should get excited about SEHS. Can't remember specifics but it sounded exciting. And then it was removed just like with those famous files. What is DTG hiding? /s
I didn’t say anything about SEHS, I mentioned some trains that run on SEHS which is information in the public domain now. I removed the post as Jan posted as I was writing and it didn’t need a duplication
I didn’t say that either Best to pretend this all didn’t happen and revert to about 0930 this morning. It’s a shame it happened but DTG have been very good at sorting it out. As I said in my removed post, all good things come to those who wait
I smell a remaster too. I mean let’s be real here, this is Dovetails Home Route. I feel like they should be making the best it can be.
Great if we do get some more bouncy trains. Certainly looking forward to whatever Firefly and DTG are doing.
I just want to clear up and set expectations so that what comes is not an anti-climax after lots of misplaced guesswork; there is no remaster, reimagining or reworking of the SEHS route in the offing. The work we have helped with, and will continue to help with, is optimisation only. The section of SEHS that is on Medway Valley has had a significant amount of work done to it however. Note again that I’m talking about the SEHS route above, not the SEHS trains
So with other words, the route stays the same (except optimization), but the trains will get some updates?
If we do get a remaster can we get a full high speed timetable with TGVs subbing for Eurostar like they do on Köln-Aachen. (and maybe ICE3Ms too but they’d have to be AI only)
That's probably why the class 700 has suspension in the Medway Valley gameplay footage. Oh well, I was hoping that was a clue that there might be another route for it in the works...
I don’t know about bouncy trains but the unintentional update did turn Rochester Castle into a bouncy castle. Go check it out
Everyone talking about ECW and I’m just here quietly enjoying *bing* *bong* “the next station is Chatham”
Wait, what trains have announcements on SEHS now? I tried the 700 yesterday and no luck, but that was the only one i had time to test
Did they patch it out already? I get nothing on either train, and all train PIS screens (player and AI) just say "Not in Service" So....guess the route is just busted until whenever Medway releases? Cool cool
I had test trains in the steam version and the had suspension for the trains those are included in the route it self!
I have seen a video on Youtube now showing the 395 bouncing along with suspension from the unintended release. It was very bouncy.
The PIS issue is nothing to do with the SEHS trains, it's a core issue that DTG's aware of. The trains weren't ready, they got relased too early so they've been reverted. We're not done working on them yet, they'll come out the same time as MVL releases.
Please no, it was a strange enough choice to have double-deck TGVs running on Köln-Aachen but at least the shape of the power cars is correct when you see them coming towards you. Seeing a TGV Duplex on HS1 would be as immersion-breaking as having a Pendolino subbing for a Class 91 + Mk4s on the ECML...
It's not. Most of the HS1 services are operated by Javelin sets. There are only two or three international services per hour on HS1, so it's entirely conceivable that you'd go from St Pancras to Ashford and see one Eurostar set at most. Hardly immersion-breaking other than seeing St Pancras with no Eurostar sets (or full of Duplex sets which look nothing like 373s or 374s)
Yeah I'm pretty sure you can run a poll on the topic and 90% will agree that it's way less immersion-breaking to see no international services on HS1 than it would be to see it populated with a bunch of trains that have never been into the country, are not cleared for Channel Tunnel use and that are in the livery of an operator that doesn't run trains in the UK... Anyway this is completely off topic and the initial suggestion is not one DTG will take on. What next? Class 90s on LGV Med to represent SNCF 26000s?
Personally I’d be happy if there was a Eurostar timetable which had the TGV sets substituting them in; the cabs are very similar minus a few distinctive characteristics, and they belong to the same family of TGV’s anyway. I’ve actually had a go at this in free roaming, once I found a copy of the 2019 timetable which highlights calling times, using a double set. Quite nice honestly, and given the timetable I found is set in the same year as SEHS, I don’t see why DTG can’t decide to add this in at a later date, instead of the 4 trial services you get. I know it’s not perfect, but for me it adds that little bit of immersion at least seeing something similar to the trains which represented the services irl.
I'm pretty sure that one day we will have a Br 407 or 408 in the game, because there are at the top of a lot of wishlist. Than it's possible to create a fake Eurostar, like the trains on Mildmay Line. I think a real Eurostar Set will never happen. The route choices are to long or to boring
To be fair a ES set would be fine as a rolling stock DLC. Theres enough on SEHS to justify it IMO. Make it a 373 & you could open up potential opportunity for laying on other routes too, if they ever got backdated TT’s or a fudging of era. The issue with Eurostar has always been licensing & unless you do bundle it with a route, it’d likely be tough to sell unbranded.
I'm already happy we will get bouncy trains on that route. It will bring more immersion to that route. Suspension physics is by far the most impressive addition since TOD4 in my experience of TSW.
I'm not 100% sure I agree to be honest. It would be a shame to miss out on branding but I feel like the 373 and 374 in the E* guise are pretty iconic. I wouldn't liken them to the Flying Scotsman, but they are much closer status-wise compared to any other train currently running in the UK, and would sell pretty well. Pretty much everyone in the UK has heard of the Eurostar train. However I fully agree with your licensing comment. Can imagine the development costs for the 373 being extremely high as well. Very complex trains IRL. The 374 might be easier as you could base it off the ICE 3 NEO and have a reskin chucked on it, hence why I see that having a slightly better chance of appearing in-game. Would absolutely love a 373 in the gorgeous E* white livery. Would be even better if DTG could retain the third rail shoes and AWS equipment as it will allow for not only HS1 services set in the modern era but also allow for backdated timetables as you say. An interesting run IMO would be North Pole Depot to Ashford as far as Tonbridge. When Phase 1 of HS1 was opened up to Fawkenham Junction, drivers would still carry out practise runs between North Pole Depot and Ashford via Tonbridge in the case of a diversion. You could either use the 373s, a pair of EPS 37s hauling 373s or EPS 37s on their own. I made a scenario for it in TSC and it's a lot of fun as you have to give way to a lot of traffic, so a lot of chasing yellows and reds. Would also love to see Waterloo to Ashford via Fawkenham Junction for HS1 running or Tonbridge for the usual London traffic.
You can turn the layers off. Although this is more of a stretch than some substitutions, I think the lack of international services is less immersion-breaking than a plausible alternative.
