We all know that updating old routes (2D sky) to modern ToD versions requires a lot of work (if you don't know, download the mod and make sure the station lighting, tunnels and PIS are broken). But what about updates for routes with earlier 3D sky ToD versions? For example, LIRR 2, Cajon or NYT. How difficult is it to update them to the current ToD version? Are there any mods? Why am I asking? The current version of ToD doesn't have such extreme overexposure, unlike the TSW3 version.
ToD4 is ToD4, there hasn't been a change to the core lighting setup since TSW3 introduced it. What has changed is routes being built with better choice in textures, choices about light sources and levels, baking ect. This can't be changed with mods, it requires a total rebuild of a route's light baking and setup so you basically might as well consider it to be something that would be linked to route remasters, and that is highly unlikely to happen to any routes already using ToD4 for a long time to come when many routes running ToD3.5 and older deserve the update time far more.
TLR - Peak Forest shall forever have the brightness and saturation sliders set to opposite ends of the scale.
As far as I am aware nothing has changed to either the TOD or the way devs are using textures since TSW3.
At this point in the games lifecycle, I don't think we'll ever see a ToD5. I don't think we would be getting route remasters now if DTG was planning another big lighting upgrade in the future (even DTG would never fully remaster a route twice). So bringing all routes up to ToD4 seems to be the end game.
I think ToD5 will be UE5, if DTG decide to go down that route, which will mean a complete rebuild of every single route. So your assumption that ToD4 will be the last ToD in this version of TSW, would probably be correct. Knowing DTG, though, Unreal Engine 5 may already be in development, and I doubt they'll call it Train Sim World. I'd imagine a new name for a new product using a new engine. Which will include the multiplayer aspect that's being tested with TSW Rivals, to see if people actually like playing Trains with friends, but then I think you've got a much bigger possiblity with multiplayer TSW, and that's RP style gameplay. Imagine real life people signalling you along a route and moving you from the Mainline to Reliefs between Paddington and Reading, or having signallers giving "line blocks" to track workers on the WCML South route to fix faulty tracks and having to bring you across from the Fast lines to the Slow lines at Ledburn Junction or Bourne End junction? That's the kinda gameplay I'd love to see, especially with humans driving the ohter trains running on the routes.
Multiplayer would be cool. DTG would have to figure out a way to prevent trolls and griefers in multiplayer lobbies though. Maybe something similar to the way Forza Horizon 5 "ghosts" other players cars? Public multiplayer lobbies would be nightmare fuel if they can't find a way to control them.
I totally agree there. I don’t think TSW will ever go to Unreal Engine 5. And as you’ve pointed out it would mean rebuilding routes from scratch again. Train Sim World looks fantastic graphics wise. It’s just needing some tweaks here and there. The games colours tends to look a bit washed out. And a bit off topic here but Dynamic Weather needs an overhaul too. It’s terrible… I always set my weather settings to manual with how bad it is…
Same here I tend to use manual weather, it either turns to fog or a biblical storm on automatic. I think the current TOD4 is fine although can be a bit too washed out sometimes. There are occasions where I think it looks fantastic. I hope they do eventually bring the pre-TOD4 up to the current level.
Easiest way would be that you get kicked out the game if you SPAD, constantly getting kicked prevents you from joining servers etc. Maybe like a safety rating, or actually using the Logbook feature of the engine to create a virtual Train driving licence. On the weather front, I personally would like to see DTG add in live weather for routes, it's been shown on PC by a mod that it can work and really well..
I still don't understand why it's always assumed multiplayer would necessitate playing with any random players. Most of the multiplayer games I play are based around partying up with my friends and running a private session co-operatively achieving our goals. Is this just some conception in the public consciousness of people who are only familiar with "multiplayer gaming" through the cultural osmosis of the existence of Battle Royales and the like?
I think its more that this seems to be how Croydon, SCR and British Railways (and maybe other Roblox games idrk) work. I believe that DTG have already placed a hard, very clear and un-misunderstandable "no" on the whole idea of multiplayer anyways. but *if* it was ever to rear its hear, the best way to do it would be with 1 or 2 of your playforms friends. one drives, one guards.... or something like this
As long as it's optional then I haven't a problem with multiplayer. However there are other things I would like DTG to spend time on. I still haven't got Simrail as it's either multiplayer or a few scenarios.
Hi everyone, personally, multiplayer isn't the essential or priority feature for TSW. Let's start with the basics: the game itself and its inherent limitations. That would be a good start. As for coordinating with UE5, I think we'll have plenty of time to discuss that later. Best regards, Tof
No problem, lol, I'm not holding it against you at all, but frankly, that's been my opinion for a while now. I understand perfectly well that I'm not the only one and that everyone has their own opinion, but sometimes you have to be realistic! lol Have a good day everyone! Best regards, all, Tof
See, because I don't have context for your reference, but I do subscribe to the youtube channel "Cronxwatch", all I am imagining is just that the town of Croydon is some kind of perpetual PVP free-fire zone
LOL - It's one of those free to play roblox games that has a full multiplayer style of gameplay (much like Stepford Country Railway and British Railways) alllthouuuggghhhh if some of the stories are to be believed then it might just be the ultimate PVP zone too
Yep. Been hearing good things about it too. It will be interesting to see it. It’s had a good Jetwash you could say.
