C'mon, DTG, you've made most of the work(GCT counts as x10) to renovate this route, less then a half left. Why stop when the team is still hot?
I've tried GCT at 07:30(rush hour) and got 35-37 FPS, then 11:30 gives me 51+ FPS. I believe that for GCT this is a normal result that I am ready to accept. P.S. I have all the layers.
That is my point. Any remaster of the Harlem line would undoubtedly be left behind by updates to the shared parts any Hudson line release made. Better to wait for it and bring Harlem up to that standard than do it now and regret the better remaster we'll never get because it already had one and DTG cannot justify remastering the same route twice.
From another thread...NEC version of what is occurring to the WCML in TSW linking Boston to Philly via NYC 1. Hudson line - with the inclusion of both Grand Central and Penn station 2. NEC NYT v2 - Penn to Philly (Introducing the Avelia!) 3. Stamford to New Haven State St (40miles) 4. New Haven union to Providence (86miles) 5. Harlem remaster (with AI and upgraded stations from Both New haven and Hudson line)
What's the point without Lake Shore Limited? DTG is not interested in adding ViewLiners or Genesis. Not in the near future. Why do we need a separate route instead of an extension? Too much length, too little traffic density. Someone else - maybe. DTG - no.
At the moment most DLC are coming from 3rd parties not the DTG team so it would be great if a 3rd party wanted to pick any of those up.. TSW rarely do extensions, I would like an extension to New haven but if not its the next best thing!
Like 3,5(SEHS, LIRR and Drezden twice) already and who knows how many to go. I just want more routes for the M3/M3A - I love her.
Why not just merge the Harlem Line with Stamford route with the section from Mount Vernon West to North White Plans? The Harlem Line timetable in the New Haven Line is the exact same as the one used in the Harlem Line DLC. After all with the merger of NY Trenton and LIRR, route mergers can be done
For New haven to Providence it'll be no different to the other USA DLC such as Cajon pass, Sherman hill or Horseshoe curve long slow freight runs without much density!..or even the requested Pacific Surfliner! At least this would serve a purpose linking Philly to Boston (if the others were also completed) and if done right the scenery would be just as good as a pacific surfliner with the section from New haven to Westerly! You would also get gameplay with the M8/asc-64/Acela and the MBTA HSP46 across the whole line in parts (unsure on freight runs)
There is a difference - it's a dense area, opposite to Cajon or Sherman Hill. It will require a lot more work in terms of setting up the scenery.
New Haven to Providence isn’t that dense. It’s mostly rural/suburban and a few highways. However outside of the small area of scenic space on the LI Sound and getting into New London, it’s also extremely boring IMO. That’s when I dose off for a bit during my trips between Boston and NYC. Also I’m good with holding off on the Avelia. Rode one today for the first time an while very nice inside and Amtrak making a huge effort to keep it clean, the seats are not as comfortable (yet, need to be broken in more) and most importantly the horn is awful! Maybe it’s some PTSD from the trip that has me wanting to skip it in game.
I feel like Harlem would probably run a bit better, it gives Amtrak, NJT and LIRR a miss so it would just be Metro-North and a bit of freight, that can't be too bad.
I will say though with the Harlem line it would be nice if they could go the extra 29miles to Southeast Station which is the end of the third rail.. At present the route coverage is 24miles only, so quite short, while the entire length is 53miles (not including the diesel section) which fits right into todays DLC route lengths!
because it is not as simple as that. First is that there is going to be major performance problems. Then the system somehow has to figure out every single combination of dlc you have and adjust automatically which is a ton of work. Then each requires their own separate timetable. Also a ton of work. THen you have to rebuild the routes to combine. Also a ton of work. There are technical reasons and other reasons why it can't be done in tsw
A ton of work does not equal impossible. A new timetable would not to be made since the harlem line timetable on the NEC route is the same one used in the Harlem DLC.
If they remastered the Harlem line, would DTG be forced to change the M3A and M7A cabs? Blanking over door controls, fuse panels and forcing safety systems on would be bad.
Amtrak runs more than just the Lake Shore out of Penn up the Hudson. In addition to the two Canada trains (Maple Leaf to Toronto, Adirondack to Quebec) and the Vermont train (Ethan Allen to Burlington), there are several Empire Service trains that run throughout the day. Out of all those, only 49/48 are equipped with Viewliners, the rest are all Amfleet trains.
I'd take that trade for a Harlem remaster in a second! I don't care about door controls and i don't even understand driving without safety systems on routes without visible signals. How is that fun?
I think we need to understand that if it’s an MTA route, we’re getting safety systems on no matter what. That’s non negotiable it seems and DTG has no say in it. I enjoy just running trains chaotically at times for speed runs in free roam when I’m bored, but I’d rather have the Hudson line with safety systems than no Hudson line.
You said like it's something bad. Oh, damn, I forgot that DTG will make it. Seriously, if by some miracle they don't have bugs, then I'm all for it.
I like the safety systems. I also find it funny that people ask for realism, but then we get realism and they don’t like it.
I still don't get why the obsession with removing controls that 1: people can still look up images of online, and 2: require a physical key. It seems very much the kind of decision made by someone in a job that never interacts at all with the practical day to day work of the railway.
I’m going to guess with the fact that there were 3 separate stolen subway incidents in the last few years. So I’d assume it’s for legal and safety purposes.
WRT to route extensions- I have a hunch that the longstanding "ban" is melting away for one reason: Thomas. It seems to me pretty obvious that DTG's strategy for Sodor is to keep adding branch lines as DLC to the lines currently active in the OG game, which means that a mechanism for working in DLC extensions has been thought through, at least conceptually. One big caveat: Thomas doesn't have the timetable issue that TSW does. Of course, that problem could be IMO solved fairly easily just by using RW timetables for everything.
I think the complaints are coming more from those who want a casual experience. One of the good things about tsw is the flexibility to have things like safety systems on for those that want a more realistic experience. But for those who just want a more casual experience, forcing safety systems on isn't going to be appealing. Luckily there is a mod that disables the safety systems for PC players on both LIRR commuter and the New Haven Line
My uncle works for the MTA as a NYC subway operator. He would tell you that are many people in upper management who have no railway experience whatsoever that makes decisions
