I would like to congratulate Firefly for providing us with this fantastic course, which has certainly raised the level of detail never before seen in TSW. The attention given to every detail, the bathroom on the Electrostar, the train sounds, the atmosphere—all of this makes you want to wait for the train on some platform just to let time pass and feel immersed in the place. It's a route that deserves all possible credit to its developers. And may this serve as a lesson to the community, to stop unfairly criticizing others unnecessarily, treating them with respect and dignity, because without them we certainly wouldn't have variety and new features in TSW.
It’s strange, but I do want to point out that I’ve only seen this happen in games that have mods installed, and not in stock game add‑ons. So I would definitely take a good look at which platform this is happening on. Have you actually received reports from console players? If so, and if it concerns PlayStation, could it be related to the limit on the number of DLCs that can be installed and the hard cap they have?

Having played the route extensively on PS5, I'd usually like to give long winded reviews to really get the feeling across... However in this circumstance I don't feel a long winded review is necessary... A shorter one would actually do it more justice so here it goes... If Carlsberg made TSW routes it would be this, the Medway Valley Line. The amount of detail in every part of the game route from the rolling stock to the route and infrastructure itself is beyond phenomenal. It's not often you get 10/10 routes but this is one of them. For me, I think this is not only the best route I've ever experienced in the game, but of all the routes in TSW this is now the favourite. An absolute piece art and perfection, and has shown what is possible with passionate and keen developers. Further more I think we should take time to also recognise the interaction the Devs have been having with us on this thread too, it is really appreciated. The best route that has ever existed in the entirety of the game for me. That is all!
Well it's certainly a superb route and it shows what is possible using all the tools currently available. I too would place MVL in the top tier of TSW routes. But there have been routes in the past that have included, for instance, more numerous and historically more interesting rolling stock; equally immersive scenery and involving gameplay and more mileage. I hope that the elements of MVL that make it so good will inspire other developers to push the envelope in future. But at the same time, unlike some other posters, I do not disparage the efforts of other devs, including DTG and others, who have also produced some excellent routes. The very first route, Sand Patch Grade, was remarkable and groundbreaking in its own right. But then it was given a lengthy dev time, which will always result in better results.
I've been playing this route non-stop since it came out on PS5. it's just so good and VERY well optimised. I cannot wait to see what Firefly make next because I think they have even outdone Just Trains in terms of quality. This is my favourite UK route since Blackpool Branches. It's a very rare 10/10 from me and hopefully the traction motor issue is resolved quickly.
I’ve been around since the beginning playing TSW and I’m pretty confident this is the best route we’ve had so far. I’m not a mileage guy have no interest all the time/inclination to play routes that are significantly over an hour in length for each run, so for me this is a perfect balance of immersion and shorter root length with excellent scenery and the icing on the cake of course is the performance which is buttery smooth on the PS5 for me.
I reported a crash to desktop in this thread yesterday, and after removing the modified Ini (not yours), it no longer crashes.
Has anything more been said about plans for the SN 377/3 AI layer at Tonbridge? It's a tiny point in the grand scheme of things, but I'm just curious.
Did a run from Tonbridge to Strood at 05:50(ish) in the 465. I left in very early morning dark/dusk and finished the run in a sunrise and a slight early morning March mist. Had the live weather on as todays date. I was absolutely stunning. Never played a run on any route with the lighting and atmosphere that good before. The lighting here really sets a new bar.
The smile on my face when I'm playing this route. I feel I've been spoilt. Best route ever. Animals that walk about in the fields. I just sat there watching them while the cuko and the birds was singing. Stunning worth every penny.
I am still hesitating because of the interference of JetWash's ini-tweaks. I would have to delete it, i guess, because I don't feel suited enough to make any changes myself without crashing everything. But I don't want to miss out on the optimazitions it delivers on all the routes... It definitely looked stunning in the preview stream!!
Rename the .ini you now have, a new one will be created and after you can always rename the old custom one back to it's original name.
Is there an issue with the 395? Just did a run on that timetable and got penalised on the scoring for not having safety systems on when I turned them all on at the wall. It may well be me forgetting a random switch as I haven’t played with the 395 in quite a while.
Warning time at Hailing North MWL UWC is too short, can you make it slightly longer if possible as 15 second is too short from red to train.
I know there’s an issue with some trains where the driver assist puts out an erroneous message that DVD/DSD isn’t active, even if it is - but it shouldn’t actually penalise you. The 395 I did notice it told me to turn on KVB & TVM, not sure if that would have affected anything score wise, as I did turn them on. It does lead me to another point though (as did a post above) that this route seemed to reset quite a few in world settings. Objective markers, the cone things on platforms for various route hops, scenarios etc & the driver assist were all set to on even though I’ve had them off since TSW6 released. I hadn’t done any training or scenarios (I know these can turn certain things back on) so it won’t have been that & also I’ve never had this issue with other routes. Not a serious problem but still a little annoying as it made me check every setting to see if it had changed anything else.
Only had a snippet of a couple of runs so far, and I'm loving it. Usually, I only pick up Routes and Add-Ons during sales, even If got a keen eye for it, but today I made a small exception for this!I can really tell, as has been mentioned several times before, that a lot of labor and passion was put into this route. I think it's been mentioned that for some reason there's no traction sound coming through? I'm having problems with this too (Really can't wait to listen to those fabulous motor sounds ) I will admit though at first it feels a bit annoying having the the services from Chatham Mainline, as I already own SEHS, and it feels almost as though I'm having to do a chunk of progress again. I'll get used to it, but the updated scenery and new weather/ sky effects are a sight to behold.
We spent a long time trying to alter default warning times. The crossings are set to 40s approach, but something in core script prevents it exceeding 15s
I have a few questions that if anyone knows the answer to please yet me know! 1. What is/is there a keyboard hotkey for the depot whistle on the 375s so you can hear it in free cam/exterior cam? 2. Is there working SDO on the 375s?
I can certainly recommend the Class 33 Railtour - hang your head out the cab window to really enjoy the scenery.
The route hopping feature works really well on this route. I did two 395 runs from Maidstone West and was able to route hop at Gravesend onto SEHS. Within a minute or two another 395 was pulling in to continue my journey onto St Pancreas This has already been mentioned, but it looks like the sky and clouds used in MVL have been updated in SEHS. They definitely look more detailed than normal.
Oh dear….. just when we all thought it was rainbows and butterflies, the BLURRY TEXTURES have arisen! . I’m on Series X and have been playing for a while now, only the last service ive done were they appearing, such a shame. However they are much more unlikely to appear compared to other routes so it’s a step in the right direction. (They appeared right at the end of the service aswell when i was entering Strood).
TSW just needs to drop Xbox completely. PC doesn’t have these issues and they’re minimal to non existent from my experience on PS5.
Are you fully quitting the game between uses? If you leave it on quick resume apparently it takes up the texture pool switching between routes etc. I always quit fully between uses and haven't had any blurring on any routes
Have you done multiple runs in a single load in or something? You're the first I've had reporting this (and you're not even on an S), and we've had people testing this on the Xbox Series S and X for about two weeks now. Or are you leaving the game in hibernate or something between use? Can I get the service headcode you were using, so I can get the testers to look.
Xbox Series X user here - no blurry textures experienced here and I’ve done back to back runs this evening. The only thing I’ve noticed is that the labels of the buttons on the driver dashboard sometimes fade in and out / do that jittery motion but they do not blur to the point where they are unreadable.
I will say generally it is suggested to back out to the menu after completing a service, especially on Xbox. The more runs you do without going back to menu, the higher your chance of getting instabality/a texture blurring issue there is. TSW doesn't clear it's memory perfectly (most games don't), and it will build up without unloading the world back to the menu.
So yes I did do multiple runs in a single load and only experienced blurry textures at the end of the service around strood. I did a run in the 465 from gravesend to strood straight after and blurry textures appeared again around strood. I can’t remember the service Headcode, I’ll check in the morning. Hope that helps .
Yeah that'll be why then, should only really be doing a single service per load in to be safe, or at most two. Any more than that and you're really going to make blurry textures more and more likely. With the way TSW handles memory unloading (every train you encounter remains in memory), that will always be an issue, optimisation will only make it take longer. You really should return to the menu after every service, or at max every other service. Otherwise you will encounter issues.
I also have CtD even without the ini files, and it seems that crashes only happen when you are near or running a train. I suspect some Nvidia Drivers does not like the new features, so looking into graphics driver issue. I am on 581.80, upgrading to 595.97 to see if issue still persist. EDIT: Issue is resolved! Did a 100mph run through and no crashes. Anyone who still have crashes, please update your graphics driver. (Especially Nvidia users)
That's wild that it doesn't cull trains from memory when no they're longer around, is that the case for trains that (presumably) despawn as they go off the map?
Yep, currently when a train is loaded into memory, it stays in memory until you go back to the menu. So no matter how much we optimise, every train that loads is permanently taking up memory. We optimised enough that you should be good enough for one and a half - two hours of being in the same session on Xbox (vast majority of normal gameplay), but beyond that you're more and more likely to get blurry textures as the game doesn't unload trains.
The trains not unloading from memory, is this something in the core of the game or more an engine issue?
I’m hoping to get this today, but can I just say to the team at Firefly, your presence on here and post release support to the community is exceptional, in the all the years I have played TSW, I haven’t seen anything like it. DTG and other DLC producers should really take note, this level of support is refreshing and absolutely something that renews my confidence. I can not wait to see what else you guys produce!
What a ridiculous statement. "Oh yeah one thing is broken so let's just throw in the towel and abandon a third of our income"... Genius!
couldnt resist and got this one... did one run, will definitely do more on my next day off ... also loving how in the end, like last 6 miles or so, you join the mainline and you can run full throttle to 100 mph ...also the GSM-R setup when starting a service is a lovely bit to spice up every run, one little step towards this feeling like a real train setup btw anyone knows why outside stations my left cab screen goes black (375)? is it cos IRL it would show CCTV? anyway, great stuff, another chill UK route
It'd feel like a kick in the teeth if that happened... I've spent good money on many addons and it'd be awful if DTG decide to jack it in because they can't fix the issue which barely any other games seem to have.
