Hey, everyone.. I am a Train Sim World player, from Bangalore, India. I have traveled quite distances on the Indian Railways, around the country. I am interested to create a few routes and locomotives/coaches found on the Indian Railways, for TSW, and writing this, to see how much interest exists, for that. First off, Contemporary Indian Railways is very very standardized. It's largely WAP-7 electric locomotives and LHB coaches, alongside the newly introduced Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trainsets (latter not technically a trainset). And in the freights, we have WAG-9 and its derivatives, and an Alstom locomotive, WAG-12. Diesel wise, we have some EMD and GE locomotives, too. If you want a 2026 Indian Railways route, pretty much every passenger train looks almost exactly the same. But however, Geography hasn't changed, and is just as diverse. Lush green forests and lagoons of Kerala, Goa and Konkan, to the mighty Himalayas between Jammu and Srinagar, the Gangetic plains, deserts of Rajasthan, the Vindhyas and Satpura hills, the coasts, etc, can still be made. I can think of 1990s, 2000s, and even 1970s-80s stuff, which includes various older locomotives, routes and erstwhile prestigious services, say, like the WDM-4 hauled Howrah - New Delhi Rajdhani, the twin WDM-2 hauled Bombay - New Delhi Rajdhani, Grand Trunk express, etc of the late 1960s, would be a thrill. But those for later. Contemporary first, if I start. Easier for me to make mostly WAP-7 and WAG-9 locomotives, first, and then focus on harder Diesel locomotives. What do you all think? I can make preparations and preliminary start, if there is an interest, and make a route which i frequently travel on, which could either be Bangalore to Madras/Chennai, or Bangalore to Hyderabad (latter is actually two routes, post a place called Guntakal, a British era Railway hub, one of which is shared with Bangalore/Madras to Bombay/Mumbai route).
@Nikhil Albert If you’d like to build an Indian route for TSW yourself, then just go ahead and do it. After all, you need to enjoy building a route and everything that goes with it. It doesn’t matter whether other people would like to have an Indian route. Building a route like that, with everything involved, could easily take a beginner a whole year. So if you enjoy building a track and all the necessary 3D models yourself, then get started and, once you have something to show, post it in the PC Editor Discussion thread. There you can create a thread and show your progress. And if you’re good at building this track, then perhaps DTG might be interested in officially selling your track.
Darjeeling Himalaya though I’m guessing the steam physics and gradients would be a nightmare. Or the narrow gauge Satpura Line before BG conversion. That would be hellfire!
Hey Nikhil ! Yes, the interest exists but what comes out as the finished product matters more than what was initially planned. TSW has a few issues which would make India a formidable challenge to simulate on this platform; passenger volume being one of that. Yeah, that's not a positive If most of your passenger formations are a WAP7 hauling a rake of 24 coaches that would be another German red box situation. Good luck getting references for those without inviting some undue attention Sorry to be a downer but nice looking trees alone don't make for an appealing train simulator experience. Our signaling system is almost similar to the British rail 4 aspect signaling system and most locos. lack anything other than a vigilance device as far as safeties are concerned. So that wouldn't bring much in terms of uniqueness to the gameplay when compared against everything that already exists here. That'd actually be a better choice if you can manage to get the references and running sounds etc. Neither of those two are realistic in TSW as of 2026. The longest end to end route in the game is Schnellfahrstrecke Kassel - Würzburg which stands at 186km. Personally, I'd have gone for a somewhat rural setting with no big stations. As my first project, I'd have tried to keep it manageable as it's easy to get bogged down doing big stations and urban backdrops.
Metro Lines in India would be a good choice (Delhi Metro, Ahmedabad Metro, Bangalore Metro etc) or Chennai Suburban Rail (with the new AC suburban rolling stock) idk
