There’s a noticeable issue with the Class 350 sounds in Train Sim World 6. The real British Rail Class 350 has a distinctive high-pitched, rising inverter whine when accelerating, but in-game this sound is too quiet, lacks dynamic pitch changes, and doesn’t accurately reflect acceleration. This makes the train feel flat and less immersive. The overall sound mix also feels off: traction sounds can be drowned out by ambient noise, especially inside the cab, and some audio loops feel repetitive instead of responding naturally to speed and power changes. Improving the inverter sound, rebalancing the mix, and adding more dynamic audio that reacts correctly to acceleration would greatly enhance. The Class 350 sounds in TSW6 need updating. The traction motor/inverter whine is too quiet, lacks dynamic pitch changes, and doesn’t respond properly to acceleration. The mix also makes traction sounds hard to hear in the cab, and some loops feel repetitive. Improving the inverter sound and dynamic audio would make the train feel much more realistic for players
I feel honestly sounds are one of DTG’s weakest areas. In too many locos have I noticed sounds which are either missing, poorly recorded/ implemented, or the sound itself is simply bland, distorted, remixed improperly (imo it should be ripped straight from rl with minimal adjustment - like Firefly) or unrealistic. The 350 is just another example. The running sounds are too quiet and in fact sounding quite different from how they do irl. The motors don’t sound very much like rhey from the real thing and are barely audible above 40mph (another issue with other sound developers like AP with their electrostar packs(.
Indeed. You do wonder if DTG or Rivet as they seem to be doing most in house work these days, actually send their audio engineer out just to travel on the trains they are modelling to get an appreciation (note not reference or detailed recordings) via the Mk1 lughole as to what the prototype actually sounds like. Even with some degree of synthesis, it should be far closer to the prototype than what we get. Of course the 350 isn’t the worst by any means. The award for the worst UK traction sound has to be shared between the Class 385 (1950’s UFO) and the IOW 484. The audio people also don’t seem to appreciate basic relative levels as testified by the whisper quiet Class 700 but turn the speakers up to hear it and passing trains blow them out. But the management gang seem complicit in all this and when comments or feedback are raised, it’s quickly and brusquely brushed asides. Having recently got back into OMSI 2, I’m being blown away by the quality of the bus sounds on both the payware and freeware add ons. If small teams or even individuals can manage to get top quality audio for their content, it makes me despair that DTG seem unable or CBA to properly address same for their stuff.
There’s also what’s realistic but nevertheless boring - any of the Class 8xx units for example or the numerous cab cars scattered throughout the game.
