Recently, my installation of TS Classic has started crashing upon attempting to load any scenario on any route, providing the following error message: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saved log to... E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\RailWorks\TempDump\ Exception Code: 0xC0000005 Exception Info: OUT OF MEMORY Fatal error in mode LOAD_BLUEPRINT. The system is unable to run this scenario on the current configuration, we suggest either lowering the graphical quality settings or attempting to run the game in the 64-bit version, if this fails to resolve the issue please contact our Customer Support Team at https://dovetailgames.freshdesk.com --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Of course the first thing I did was lowering my in-game graphics settings (as I already run the 64-bit version by default), but neither of them helped. This isn't the first time this issue has occured for me, however nothing I try seems to resolve it. In addition to all of the recommended steps by Dovetail support, I have: - Completely removed any and all 3rd-party addons - Cleared the cache more times than I can count - Performed multiple reinstallations - Uninstalled every DLC I have purchased through Steam - Deleted my PlayerProfiles.bin file - Ensured that no 3rd-party antivirus software is present anywhere on my PC - Verified the game files through steam repeatedley - Ensured that my graphics drivers are running on the latest available version (note - this was what was causing the issue last time, but it doesn't seem to be the cause this time) - Performed a clean boot of Windows to eliminate any programs that might be interfering with the game But here's the interesting part - very, VERY occasionally, the game will start and run as normal. However, upon closing or finishing a scenario and attempting to load any others (including the one that just ran fine), the game will invariably crash again. These starts seem to be completely random, as I cannot find any connection between them or any other programs running on my PC at the time. I have attached copies of the crash reports and the dxdiag file detailing my PC's specs (which should be more than capable of running TSC just fine). And just to clarify, I was not performing any action that might corrupt any files before the crashes started - I simply tried to boot the game one afternoon and it failed to get past the main menu.
A couple suggestions/questions. Firstly, how did you reinstall the game? Did you just uninstall it through steam, or did you also delete the Railworks folder. Assuming you have done that, I would check performance in other games. OOM errors are usually not your PC's fault, however the nature of these errors are a bit odd and it could be your graphics card. However, the occasional time when it does work, makes me think it could be a failing SSD. Could you run CrystalDiskInfo and post the results here (don't worry, it's completly safe). Thanks.
When reinstalling, I first uninstalled through Steam, then went into the steamapps folder and removed the Railworks folder, as I have read that occasionally that can prevent corrupted files from being properly deleted and rebuilt. As for my other games, I have not noticed any major performace issues or crashes - the issue seems to be localised to just TSC. I have downloaded and run CrystalDiskInfo and attached the relevant text file (for clarity, TSC and most of my other steam games are currently installed on "(03) KINGSTON SA400S37960G"). I did try reinstalling TSC on a different drive, but it didn't seem to do much. Cheers.
I already have. Several times. Both through the "Clear Cache" button in the menu, and going into the Railworks folder and deleting the cache files themselves, then reverifying through Steam. A corrupted cache was one of my first thoughts when this issue started occuring.
Cheers for that. It doesn't seem to be an SSD issue. The next thing I would suggest doing is going into Task Manager while running TS and checking the 'performance' page to see if there is any really high or really low usage numbers. This could indicate an issue with your chipset drivers, of which I was having similar issues while playing MSFS. (Chipset drivers are installed in a similar fashion to your Graphics drivers).
Based on Task Manager's findings, there appears to be a significant spike under the 3D section of my GPU tab (as can be seen in the attached screenshot) during the crash. I did update my graphics drivers recently, however it was in response to this issue beginning, as outdated graphics drivers were the root cause last time this happened. Additionally, the "memory" tab never recorded any usage above 60% while the game was open or attempting to load, so I'm guessing we can safely assume that the game is not actually running out of memory.
Have you set the game to use the Graphics Card in High Power settings in Windows Control Panel? I was having a similar problem and that seemed to cure it
Okay, that really helps. Your GPU doesn't seem to be overheating, so that's not the issue. It could be a shortage of power, but I doubt it if it works in other games. You could try and under-volt your GPU, but that is quite advanced and that would only be for a last resort. For you, I'd recommend you do a Clean install (or reinstall) of your GPU drivers. You can do this (Through Nvidia App) by Clicking 'Download' (or press 'Reinstall', if you already have the newest drivers). Then, instead of clicking, 'Express Installation', hit 'Custom Installation' and tick the 'Clean Installation' box. While you're there, make sure 'PhysX System Software' is ticked, if it is available (this is TS' game engine). This will reset your driver settings, but it uninstalls any previous drivers that could be causing your GPU to crash. Hope this helps! P.S. - if you don't use the App, just tell me and I can guide you through the manual install.
Still not getting anywhere, unfortunately. I believe that a clean reinstallation of the drivers was what fixed this issue last time, so I'm not entirely sure where to go from here. Having had a look at the LogMate files, they all seem to say the same thing: 2026/04/13 17:36:02.352 - [Content] - Trace d:\build\CoreRelease\Code\DLLs\DataManagement\cBlueprintLibrary.cpp : 421 = Blueprint set not found : Kuju, RailSimulatorCore 2026/04/13 17:36:02.353 - [Content] - Trace d:\build\CoreRelease\Code\DLLs\DataManagement\cBlueprintLibrary.cpp : 452 = Blueprint set not found for: Cameras\EditCamera001.xml I don't think that this necessarily means that there is an issue with this specific file (especially with how much I've reinstalled and reverified the game), moreso that it's just the first file the game attempts to load. But then I could also be completely wrong in thinking that.
For less out of memory issues, do this! Windows Settings, type in the search Graphics Settings Click browse, navigate to RailWorks folder, choose Railworks.exe and also add Railworks64.exe Yes, you will need to add both Railworks.exe and Railworks64.exe regardless of which one you use Click on the options button, choose High Performance this is for either AMD or NVIDIA High Performance graphics and click Save Load up TSC and you should find that the game will run a lot smoother, less lagging and less out of memory issues It does not completely stop the out of memory issues If you have Intel Rapid Storage Technology, I would suggest enabling Intel Optane Memory, this will help a lot with gaming
I've already tried switching RailWorks and RailWorks64 to High Performace graphics, and it's not done anything to help. I also don't think that my PC has Intel Rapid Storage Technology, as the only device listed under "Storage Controllers" in the device manager is "Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller".
What graphics version are you using and have you considered rolling them back? What Screen Settings are you using Full Scree, Borderless or Window?
I am currently using the "Lowest" graphics setting in the main menu while I try and figure out what's going on, however the game hasn't had any trouble running the higher graphics settings in the past. I have the game set to "Borderless" mode at my monitor's recommended resolution (1920 x 1080).
Pretty much all gaming laptops are fitted with Intel Rapid Storage Technology, I believe. It's nothing to do with Storage Controllers or Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller This brings me to my next question! Can you provide your computer specs processor, ram, graphics if you have less than 16GB of ram this explains the continuous crashing and blue screen, no way having only 8GB of ram for TSC will cut it You also need at least 4GB of dedicated graphics memory, meaning that either your AMD or NVIDIA graphics card dedicated memory has to be at least 4GB of ram or higher "higher the better". Let us know what your specs are this would shed some light on the subject
When I asked about What Graphics version I meant I have Nvidia and the latest version caused a problem for me and I installed a previous version.
Can I ask which specific driver version you installed to fix your issue? I have backdated my drivers to version 595.79 (the version before the most recent one) and the issue still doesn't seem to have fixed itself.
Hmm. I'm reluctant to revert my drivers back THAT far for two reasons: 1. It could easily cause issues for some of my other games/programs. 2. I doubt it would help much, seeing as the issues started on the 27th March, and the version I have backdated to (that hasn't helped much) released on the 10th March, so already quite a bit before the issues started. The game was working fine from the 10th up until the 27th.
I personally use Nvidia version 595.97 and haven't had any problems with my Nvidia 3060 12GB so far. However, should any problems arise, I will revert to an older driver. According to the internet, the best driver for graphics cards in the 20/30/40 series is 566.36.
I've just attempted to load the game after reverting my graphics drivers to version 561.09 (which is apparently one of the most stable versions available for my particular graphics card) and the game still refuses to load and scenario, and still provides the same LogMate error message as before. For what it's worth, the consist editor loads all of my locos and rolling stock just fine, but the game still crashes whenever I attempt to load any map.
Well, I have to say, I am pretty stumped. I have been pondering over this, and so far all I can come up with is that DirectX is for some reason not working or not installed at all on your computer. It wouldn't make much sense, as you commented saying you didn't do anything before that could cause this, but Microsoft be doing some weird stuff nowardays so who knows!? If you want, you can download a fresh version of DirectX here. It is just a .exe, and if it isn't the reason, it won't change anything.
Have you tried reinstalling all dependencies and deleting all Blueprints.pak files in the Assets folder? The route you're trying to load will reload the Blueprints.pak files.
I seemed to understand the OP virtually deleted his Steam setup and reinstalled it. That would make sense about the DirectX not being installed. The setup file for Direct X can also be found in your Steam Folder Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\DXSetup.exe
When I downloaded and ran the .exe file to see if something was indeed up with DirectX, it responded with "DirectX setup has determined that a newer or equivalent version of DirectX has been installed already. No installation is necessary". So I'm guessing the problem isn't that. I am currently testing these suggestions with just the base Academy routes and scenarios, to avoid the possibility of any interference from extra add-ons, be they official DTG products or otherwise. Regardless, deleting the Blueprint.pak files for the Kuju Rail Simulator assets folder still did nothing. I have, however, found that a patch for the game (Build ID 22532727) was released on the 27th (the day the issue started) at around 11:27am, which seems to line up with when I first encountered the issue, as the first time I attempted to load the game that day was around 1pm if I remember correctly. Is it possible that something in this patch could be the cause?
In another thread it mentions this patch https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/tsc-update-april-2026.97626/ And it mentions the patch was rolled back - so I'm unsure You don't just delete the blueprint files for the Kuju folder but ALL blueprint files
Currently the blueprint.pak in the Kuju folder is the only blueprint folder I have in my files, since I've uninstalled everything else. Also, that thread seems to be mentioning a patch (and subsequent) from the 10th April. I'll see if I can roll my game version back to before the 27th March patch anyway - the timing of that patch releasing and my installation breaking for seemingly no reason lines up VERY well.
You have better specs than my gaming laptop I'm not really sure why you are having issues with TSC, the only thing I could suggest is resetting your in-game settings to default and hopefully, that would resolve the issue
Resetting my in-game settings back to the default state still didn't change anything. I also went and reset my player progress (since that's pretty much the only thing that I haven't reset at this point) to see if that worked, but alas, the game still crashes. My attention keeps being drawn to the blueprint failing to be found for "EditCamera001.xml", as that specific file keeps appearing as the sole load attempt in the LogMate logs. I've already removed and then reverified the relevent files in the RailSimulator Core folder, but is there any chance that something might have broken with the camera POVs? Maybe the software responsible for them is out of date or corrupted in some way?
I don't think the "EditCamera001.xml" is important - it is not used in the game as such EditCamera001.bin is the important file Either way both files show as 1kb
Ok, yeah, pretty sure those files aren't the problem. Just deleted and reverified them (they were both 1kb before and after) and I still get the error message.
Anyone else got any more ideas? I know we've tried pretty much everything there is to try, but there will be something causing this. And it's probably something relating to the 3D section of my graphics card, seeing as that spikes just before the game crashes.
Ok literally right after I post that reply I hit a breakthrough. I cleared out my Windows prefetch, temp, and %temp% folders, and the game seems to be starting. I'm guessing that there are two conflitcing files in one of those folders causing my GPU to spike whenever I load TSC, and I'll try to narrow it down from here.
Ok and now the game's broken again. Fails to restart the exact same scenario that it just loaded barely 20 seconds ago. So it's going to be something in the prefetch folder, as the temp and %temp% folders are still (pretty much) empty, and prefetch seems to be where all the TSC-relevant files are located.
Ok so based on the files that get created when I try certain things, the issue seems to be with one of the following: - x86 launcher - Task Host Window - Search Protocol Host - Search Filter Host - Runtime Broker - Game Overlay UI These (aside from the error and crash reporters) are the files that are created in the prefetch folder right before the crash occurs, so in my somewhat-informed opinion, it seems likely that one of these files is conflicting with TS in some way.
So if it is failing with the same scenario try a Default DTG scenario as it will have all the stock and route. If the runs then it is a problem with the Scenario you are trying
I was testing using one of the scenarios on the built-in North Wales Coast line, and a similar thing happens when I try to load an academy scenario - sometimes the game will start properly once, but fails to load any other scenarios after returning to the main menu.
The only thing I can think of is somehow you've corrupted your either TSC installation or the DLCs, perhaps you had downloaded and installed a 3rd party mod that caused the issues to begin with? You could try and uninstall the DLCs and reinstall, after clearing the cache in-game if uninstalling and reinstalling the DLCs, doesn't work! Uninstall DLCs and TSC and delete all folders before reinstalling TSC Other than that, I'm all dried up with ideas
I've just tried downloading TS Tools and attempting to run it, however I keep being presented with the same error message every time I do: Run-time error '339': Component 'TABCTL32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid I looked up what this specific error meant, and apparently it has something to do with that file (tabctl32.ocx) not being properly read. However, when I went to try and verify that I had that file, it was not present in either the System32 or SysWOW64 folders (which are apparently exactly where it should be).
Ok, the game FINALLY seems to be working again fine. It consistenly starts, and has no trouble reloading scenarios after closing them. The key seems to have been to delete the "blueprint schema" xml file in the Temp folder via TS Tools, then allowing the game to rebuild it (which I could have sworn I already did, but I guess not). Cheers for your help guys.
