I do think more could still be done with the Great Western Express route. It is a very short route for high-speed trains, and I know that it has recently been remastered so won`t be touched again any time soon, but I think there is much yet to be realised: - The route from around Hayes and Harlington to London Heathrow Airport is very short, and would complete the Heathrow Express route, with a potential new livery and interior for the Heathrow Express Class 387. That would be a lovely additional level of immersion for those who want to fly to/from Heathrow in FS2024 afterwards/before running between Paddington and Heathrow. Obviously the stations for Heathrow`s Terminals would need to be modelled, but given the route would half be in tunnels underground, and much shorter than a full-blown new route, I do feel it is a shame this has been overlooked by the Remaster, as it is unlikely my idea will come to fruition. - We have the Bakerloo line, but this is a deep-level tube system, and not the same as the sub-surface tube. They have layered the formerly D-Stock, renovated Class 484, and given a small snipped of such tube services, but this could pave the foundations for an extended section at least for the Circle & Hammersmith & City lines, and would best be served by S-Stock trains. - If ever one was to make the Elizabeth line, a good portion of that route (a scenery-dense part that goes over land) has bee completed, it could go to Heathrow if my above suggestion is implemented, might not get the full route but whatever, only problem is it wouldn`t fit the 2017 era but just an idea. - The HSTs and Class 802s obviously feel like caged animals on such a short route, but I doubt anyone will extend this beyond Reading so I guess beyond making diesel mode on the Class 802s compatible with the route, or electrifying the route to Reading, there is nothing more. - A lot of ideas, most of them nothing more than ideas, but I do think the Heathrow extension could be a good idea, and they need to sort out the bug on the Class 802 so that it can run on this route. In case someone is unaware, the Class 802 can only run on unelectrified sections IF the pantograph is raised after the diesel engine is fully on. It does not need to touch overhead lines, it just needs to be in that position, but support is aware of this issue.
After all the work that has been done on the GWR remaster I don’t see them updating this route any further. Personally there’s other areas of GWR mainline I’d rather they explore. Oxford to Cheltenham or continuing the line from Reading to Bristol temple meads. My biggest wish list would be a Plymouth to Penzance route, as we’d finally get a proper representation of the WCL which Rivet failed to do. It could include both a modern 2025 and the original 1990’s timetable.
It will be interesting to see if DTG revisit GWR for this summer’s main UK route. If they do, my money would be on something that brings Bristol in the game and possibly revisits Cardiff. So we could see Swindon to Cardiff but including via Bristol TM as well, with the Class 802 reworked into the more common Class 800. Much as I would like to see GWE extended, I feel Liam’s update has drawn a line under it for both DTG and Grumpdog Games.
I agree, the work done on the route has been more than satisfactory. If by chance we ever get the metropolitan line in the game then the S7’s could replace the 484’s.
I would love to see a new London underground route in TSW 6 but i don't think that would happen anytime soon DTG Matt has said its a pain because of tunnel light baking, unless JT makes the Metropolitan line, but i would like to see the Hammersmith and city line included with Great Western Remaster full route Hammersmith to Barking maybe as a separate timetable so there's little effects on performance, to have the whole GWE and Hammersmith and city line will affect performance
I really do think its a waste that the Heathrow Express wasn`t completed. We`ve got a Class 387 with purple seats that just needs a livery, we`ve got 90% of the route modelled, the rest of it runs through tunnels so doesn`t require additional external scenery, all we need is the 3 stations for Heathrow Terminals 2&3, 4 and 5. Such a shame.
It was something to do with the Authority at the Airport not allowing it, nothing to do with the Dev.
Slight problem, it was said when the remaster was finished that the way the route was made, and how old it is, that extensions apparently aren't possible, this is very annoying, but an extension has happened in a way with the Thames Valley branches dlc announcement from Incredible Trains.
That extension you refer to is literally what they say is impossible, no? Yh shame about the airport authority, they aren`t government-owned so typical nonsense.
