Why would you do that, when we have the NS license and can get trains everyone throughout the country is familiair with?
Only because I think it's a nice idea (my opinion of course), so just pitching that Could also be other regional lines, like the Drielandentrein (with 2 power changeovers and 3 different safety-systems).
I don't know much (anything) about Dutch railways, but saying no to other companies other than NS is silly. At that point you might as well say only routes operated by Northern or by South Eastern should be made in the UK since DTG already has those licences
NS operates the vast majority of the Dutch railway network, including pretty much the entire core network - the exceptions are just branches, almost all of which are unelectrified. The most interesting choices for Dutch routes would pretty much all be NS.
It could be nice and personally I'm fan of branch lines, however DTG has to acquire the license from Arriva. I don't know if Stadler trains are an issue in general, as there are no German Stadlers in the game and I've seen question about it multiple times.
Also, what I would say is, the feel of Dutch routes comes in much more strongly with NS - their branding on stations is so so strong, so particularly Dutch, and also to get a Dutch feel you want the high level of traffic you get on the mainlines.
Busy or not it more depending on the region and if it's a mainline or not, but if it has to be NS, I would love to see a route with the DM 90.
DM90s were never used on the main lines, so their potential is limited. Besides, they were long out of service before the SNG was brought into service, so any route with the DM90 couldn't benefit from half of the existing Dutch stock. Plus, since the DM90 was used on unelectrified tracks, we wouldn't see much of the ICMm either.
I know that, but for me it still would be nice to see one in game. If they take your suggestion of the Mat 64, also the half of the existing Dutch Stock can't be used. It was more a reaction on the Arriva trains, branch line and the suggestion it has to be NS, so DM 90 is an option there, something like a Dutch Niddertalbahn.
I appreciate which Dutch route you and other members prefer, but the old line I prefer is tied to memories for me through friends and family, so to each their own, I would say. Other than that, I'm just fine with it as long as it's Dutch, because that's what I do it for.
Purno how do you all good times parmanent this below your replies? Steam and YouTube! Suggesting the Dutch NS Mat'64 and Amsterdam/Schiphol - Amersfoort/Lelystad route.
The DM ('Buffel') was great and was operated subsequently by NS and NoordNed (which was later fully acquired by Arriva) on these lines. Even better would be the predecessor of the DM, the DH 'Wadloper'. This was the train I grew up with and where I had my first rail journey on. Good times.
I'd suggest something that connects with the existing Dutch route to keep it in the same time period and enable route hopping. It helps to build a "network." The UK map is kind of hampered by that lack of early planning, but it's very possible to start in the Netherlands fresh. As people have said, it's a nice route but it's just....one route and there's not much variety. I'm hoping it builds from there and doesn't end up as an orphan like the TGV or Oakville.
The impression I get is that they tried their hand with a quieter line, so the next stage would be a busier line, taking in part of the busier Randstad region. I think you'd really get the Dutch railway experience then - with a couple of new trains, and some layers, maybe including DB IC or ICE on certain routes.
If you want variety, then a connection route for route hopping is not really the best idea. The east part of the Netherlands is more rural, so less variety and kind of more of the same as Zwolle - Groningen In the west part of the country you have more variety and services. As I already suggested before, around Rotterdam there is a lot going on for passengers and freight.
