Since we are approaching the time DTG would probably reveal a new TSW game I was wondering what if instead Germany, US and UK as core routes DTG would made routes from other new countries as core routes? And I would appreciate a lot if we got more Eastern European routes and routes from other continents we still didn't have so it would actually be Train Sim World and not Train sim Germany, UK and US.
Still have 3 months until TSW7 is announced. Whatever the core routes are will already be deep in to development by now.
They will play it safe I think. They know their core base and not going to gamble with lower sales of the bundle. That said, something Canadian could substitute for the USA particularly out west of Calgary on CP or Edmonton on CN. We have of course already seen Austria sub in for Germany with Vorarlberg but again it’s not that far from the comfort zone. What could substitute for the UK? Not much alternative - something Irish would be nice but too far outside the mainstream for a keynote release, ditto something from the Isle Of Man. Radically new territories like (say) Australia, India or Japan are not going to be out front in the annual bundle.
New countries and continents requires knowledge of the railway system, safety and signaling systems and access to reference material. None of that comes easy
My gut feeling for the flagship UK route of TSW7 will be the East Coast Mainline with York featured. I correctly guessed the Riviera Line for TSW6 so I am hoping I get it right twice in a row
Whilst Canada or Austria might feature in the core bundle, I don't think they'll get more "adventurous" then that when it comes to core routes. Core routes need to attract an audience to buy the game every year, and I think the best countries to do that is the three they focus on already. Third parties are of course bringing new countries (Japan, Portugal and Czechia) though for those who want different countries.
You could be right about the ECML. Got a feeling they are going to make a new section this time around. People have been crying out for more ECML for ages now plus we have had LOTS of WCML. I think it’s now a good time to get some more ECML in.
the "world" in train sim world is somewhat ambiguous to me does it refer to countries around the world or to the fact that it's an "open world" train simulator? since, unlike TSC, we can get off the train and explore the platforms and the station (and even a little bit outside the station many times)
My personal view is if it’s ECML it will probably be York to Newcastle, though I would prefer Newcastle to Berwick or Edinburgh, albeit the service thins out north of Newcastle. New trains? Well maybe at last our elusive Class 91 and Mark 4 set plus a Class 185 in TPE livery.
Yes I would love to see Edinburgh - Newcastle. Funny that because I literally just watched a playthrough of that route on YouTube last night. It’s a pleasant run.
I'd welcome the Canadian Rockies instead of yet another East or West Coast commuter. For the UK, I hope it's not York to Newcastle, which was a borefest in TSC. The only good thing about it was the Deltic, which would not be part of a modern ECML. As for Germany, the last thing we need is yet another Redbox electric route, even if it strays into Austria. A French provincial route would be good.. A Dutch route involving Amsterdam, Rotterdam and/or The Hague would be nice.
The thread title is already misleading. What if? They'll obviously publish it. Before any other (alleged) new product line, Tsw7 or something similar will be released. I remember last year they first released Tsw6 and then announced MR UE5 (which had already been registered well before, around July or August). DTG isn't stupid. As for the second aspect of the thread, what can I say? More countries will arrive: Japan, Portugal (a rather unusual choice, in my opinion), etc. And finally, does anyone know of any other train simulators with the same number of countries represented?
I wonder if we will be in for a California route since we have had a lot of New York recently. Hopefully it’s something a bit different from the other California routes we have had… I didn’t really enjoy them.
Since Rivet also contributes to the core routes – or in some cases builds them entirely – it would be a nice change if DTG were to include Swiss SBB lines in the core routes instead of German ones. After all, Rivet is the only developer so far to have built an SBB line, and DTG would certainly be successful with it too.
Train Sim World isn't called that because of the regions it covers. It's called that because you can leave the cab and explore the world of each route. As for new regions, I'd be fine with new third parties making them, but definitely no core routes. The core routes tend to be bigger in scope than your average route, so they should firmly remain UK, German and US. The reason DTG focus on these regions are simply that they have the largest player bases.
If I'm not mistaken, the problem with SBB CFF FFS (which has beautiful trains and routes) is that there is some sort of restriction from Switzerland aimed at preventing the full implementation of simulation on locomotives for safety reasons.
Personally, I'd like DTG to focus on other countries, perhaps as an annual route or core routes because I find it annoying that it's always the same three countries (even if the USA is less well-fed than the other two). Especially since for membres of other countries feel a bit neglected; some will say there are third parties, but the chance of have a third party is minimal ,see "random" (even if they do exist) : Because have people who know how to use the PC editor (which is rare in the community since not everyone knows how to use that), who are determined to build a route, and who happen to be in your country... We have a better chance with DTG who has been a master at this for years.
Yeah so why not throw in a 4th route that could be a new country or a country that’s hardly been revisited as we all pay a fortune for a new TSW release anyway.
That certainly isn’t true, because SBB items are also possible – and with the SBB’s blessing. Why else would a new SBB train or locomotive be released for TSC almost every month? And they all have the SBB logos and licences for them. And I reckon Rivet surely still has a licence. And the Swiss routes – you could build so many of them, and anyone who can drive on German routes can drive on the SBB routes without any problem.
How about they ditch the World part of the game and instead make a Network based game? Train Sim Network … has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it. The scale of the network would have to be substantial though to sell us a new game. Think CCN, but 10x the size. It would keep the masses from moaning about having to upgrade each year. I too am fed up and not seeing the point of a brand new game title each year.
Perhaps they will surprise us and this years American route will be the Central Peru zigzagging up through the Andes from Lima to Huancayo! Does tick a few LAMPOIL boxes but somehow with fewer trains a week than Cane Creek, probably not. My money would be on California though, maybe part of the Surfliner route down to Oceanside (cue all the Animal Kingdom references with statues of “Smurf” and “Pope” as Mastery rewards), or perhaps up the coast towards Santa Barbara.
dear god, I want some African routes The Zimbabwe Victoria Falls route with its bridge Or South Africa Capetown. Or Nigerian Lagos line with its reskinned HST Class 43. Africa is an untapped area of stunning beauty.
Matt himself has said the best way to get new countries in TSW is via new third party talent. DTG have their focus on three main pillar countries, which is why they're always included in core. There would be much larger backlash if they abandoned the main regions for the core routes, compared to not including new countries. As a UK player, I would not be happy having the UK excluded as the core routes for each iteration tend to be larger projects than your standard DTG route. The current system is fine as is and it is also what brings in the most sales, considering UK and Germany are the largest player base.
The strongest routes are often those that can call on layers, and so it's usually not until the second or third route in an area that you see its full potential. We really need a second Dutch route to build on what's already been made - to add new rolling stock, and layer in what we have - that in turn builds on those foundations for a third route etc. The same goes for Austria, Czechia, etc etc. Broadly I think TSW needs to focus more on improving and building on what it already has before it adds too much new stuff. It goes for routes, and it goes for features and gameplay too.
Personally I'm almost only interested in European railways and I like to see new routes from North and East European countries, maybe Italy or another France route. Outside of Europe, I think only Japan does interest me.
I really would be happy with more Swiss routes, but there was something with the SBB license, as confirmed by DTG. I don't know if this has been changed in the meantime, but back then also TSC products where effected. If I remember correctly, SBB changed their mind after an incident where someone did gain unauthorized access to the cabin of a train.
there are already many countries in the game and two more to come. i think it refers to a world where you can driver a train in other places around the worst.
SBB content was still allowed in TSW but not with the depth of simulation deemed necessary for players to accept it. That was also going to affect TSC content as well and the content creators were worried about it. Is it still those same creators making new Swiss content for TSC with detailed operation or is it them or someone else making content with less functionality and simple go/stop physics? It’s been 18 months or more since the change, so is it still the same or has it changed back? That’s the question that needs asking if it’s going to return to TSW, the level of simulation allowed in the licensing, not the licensing being allowed at all.
Idk if this is the right post to put it in, however I think DTG have already leaked a loco/route comming to tsw 7. In one of their newer tiktoks a class 222 in a EMR livery was shown, and behind it there was a PIS board listing the end destination as Londont St. Pancreas. I've attached a screenshot showing said claim (the tiktok is still up btw), now if this is a leak or an oversight I don't know. But I think the next flagship UK route would be another mml route.
I never talked about abandon, just highlighting other countries too... I can understand that for a British, having their country featured is really great, but think about it now for other countries if we're lucky, we'll get just one route because a third party (or DTG themselves) are making a route and as I said if we're lucky, because we need to have the third party (low chance) that will do the route for the country. And honestly, if three new countries are added to the core route, I don't think it would generate negative feedback, given the enormous demand for them. I'm not asking for a replacement of three core routes , (even though I'm not saying no if that's for at least one TSWX) but at least one new country to replace one like TSW4 with Austria, or simply more new countries in the annual releases, or as has been said, a fourth country in the core routes. And personally, I'm starting to get tired of seeing the same two countries almost all the time. Even if the good thing about the UK is that there are many railway companies so in terms of trains, livery, or even roads, it varies. Where I find that with Germany, we're always on those red DB trains, and almost all the journeys are the same for me. For a game called Train Sim World, I think it's a shame to limit it to three countries 90% of the time. Yes, some will tell me that World is more about the free-roaming action of leaving your train cabin, visiting stations, etc... compared to TSC, but for someone who doesn't know TSC, what do you think "World" means?
Sadly, I'd say it's just a CC livery as they aren't official DTG images and community images. There is also one of an Avanti Voyager.
Alright after reading your replies I realised that more new countries as core routes isn't much of a good idea after all, but expansion to new countries is still good as it brings more new experiences.
This is basically what I intended the discussion to be since it's only if we get lucky and I'm too getting tired of UK, Germany and US. (UK is not much of a familiar environment. German content is very similiar as most of them are just mainline runs where safety systems basically do most stuff for you and for US it's even more unfamiliar environment.)
Actually having fired up the SimRail Moss Vale simulation as my afternoon entertainment (which is actually a huge section of the main line plus the Unaderra branch), I wouldn't be displeased to see something around that area. Moss Vale to Goulburn is around 50 miles, plus there are the various freight branches. Yes it would be a huge undertaking with the various passenger sets and different freight companies but I would probably Day One without hesitation.
Pros: I absolutely would love TSW routes in other countries (Spain, Italy, France, Ireland and Sri Lanka immediately spring to mind). I would even be in favour of a complete switcheroo for an annual release (eg Canada, France and Australia would be a nice mix) It would make the "World" part of the name more credible. The "My local line" factor could promote sales in the new areas covered. Cons: It really does depend on third party developers within those countries to pick-up the batten after the initial DTG release and expand the collection. If there are no third party developers within those countries it may irritate those affected. Imagine if there are no further Dutch releases for example. Dutch players lured-into the game by the Zwolle route might be annoyed if that was it for the Netherlands. There's also an issue with DTG and developers spreading themselves too thinly. Remember the initial TSW routes with very little variation in rolling stock because there were only a couple of routes in that country. We got Class 66 and some HST power cars at Willesden in the Bakerloo Line but that DLC still feels really unreal in the section alongside the WCML. That sort of thing but in multiple countries.
Of course, amazing how often that happens. I bet Stujoy feels silly saying that when you already knew.
