Even a lot of liveries I consider bad are more dull than anything, Penn Central to me is a obvious one that I consider dreadful, but that's more so because it's "aggressively dull" as opposed to being a eyesore. I've never liked any form of the UP livery for similar reason, ironically the one I probably like the most is the one with the flag on its side, just because the flag breaks up the weird armor yellow UP likes to use, that said they're at least not eyesores.

In contrast the GBR livery I think would be best described as if UP made one of the complex one off liveries a standard livery, like 1943.

I'm not sure if I'm the only one with this opinion, I don't know what the general consensus on these units are. But in my view these are fun, but from a graphical design perspective they're overly complicated. It's neat they reference as much as they, and they're rare enough I don't care if they ain't peak graphic design, but they really ain't great liveries beyond that. Perhaps UP 1996 and 4141 aside, those two I think genuinely are good looking units, but those aside I like the rest more for novelty's sake more than anything. The new GBR livery has the same problems, on top of being something you're not going to be able to escape, and thus spend more time thinking about all the questionable design choices it has.

Just noticed it’s Southern not Southeastern, so maybe a hero feature on BML remastered?

I actually don’t think it looks that bad plastered in the 387… maybe adjusting to it

I do think it will be incredibly dull when this is applied to all stock.. some pretty cool liveries and variety across the network that add variety to similar stock etc… some godawful ones too, mind, like Great Northern

We survived with a uniform scheme before. I just wish they'd designed a livery that flows along the whole train.

we did, though I guess we had BR blue, regional and intercity plus others like gmpte … now we have GBR

we will adapt, but will miss the variety

I guess though we will still have some… e.g. Elizabeth Line, Overground, Bee Network in and around MAN, Scotrail, TFW… presumably these will all retain differentiated brand identities and perhaps more will surface beyond the GBR master brand identity

I think they’re referring to the couple of decades pre-regional railways and intercity when everything was just blue and blue & grey. ;)

I will say one thing, at least its better than what Canadian National does when it gets 'new' locomotives from other railroads. [IMG]
