On Xbox you have the advantage of a refund. On Playstation you won't get your money back after installation. Luckily for me I read the negative reviews in time. I already had a coupon with money loaded in my PSN wallet. I would definitely try to return this defective product immediately upon discovering blurry textures and the game crashing and not wait months for a repair.
I did so on Steam. It’s a huge shame really and never thought I would be doing that with a JT product. As I said earlier, happy to rebuy when or if the various issues are sorted both on the JT side and maybe DTG (if they CBA). However there is a lesson here for the third parties too, they really need to cut their cloth according to what TSW and its increasingly broken core can deliver. There is absolutely zero point in building routes stuffed to the gunwales with assets, Easter Eggs and intricate stock layers if even a NASA super computer sags under the weight. And JT are not entirely innocent - again as I commented in Feedback, the Class 86 and 87 are still afflicted by the bug where if you run with AWS active, on loading a saved game the train immediately dumps into an emergency brake application.
Added to the blurry textures are the game crashes. The game is unfriendly to consoles. As you said, PCs are starting to have problems too. This is not a good advertisement for TSW7.
Playing on Series S with almost all the recommended layers active. Always set console to HD and always Quit before starting the game. But, still have problems with CTD into Crewe and blurring en route. Never had this with Blackpool Branches nor Preston to Carlisle.
I've already tried switching the game to HD. But it didn't help much. I have a big OLED TV and the picture in HD looks really bad. It's unwatchable.
About 9 out of 10 times. Was lucky once when I spawned around 8.00 on a sunny day. But whether it is free roam or timetable, you mostly crash unfortunately... But the route itself is fantastic! I hope you guys can fix the problems!
Genuinely with the state of this route on Xbox it needs to be pulled from being on sale as it does not work. How can you sell a product that does not work and in most cases crashes to the dashboard? A lot of TSW players do not read this forum and have no clue about the state of a DLC until they try to play it. Selling it in this unplayable and crash prone state is not right.
Is this a PC specific issue? I've been doing the Southbound liner scenario (2:30 run time split over a few days) on XSX and I loaded back into an 87 with my safety systems on etc and all I got was the taps running down to off. Admittedly still shouldn't happen but I'm not getting a brake application? Cannot confirm regarding the 86 though
It is on PC, yes. Haven’t bought any of the JT add ons for my PS5 version which TBH sits largely mothballed.
With all due respect, you've been told by two developers that making scenery worse won't benefit performance the way you think it will. And nor should they, when you're pushing your PC at a resolution it simply wasn't designed for.
The AWS issue with the brakes applying has nothing to do with the resolution I choose to run the game at on my PC, that’s more than a little redirection don’t you think?
That’s what I was asking you as you seemed to be connecting my potato PC as the cause of that particular issue. Anyhow, I respectfully suggest it’s time to let this particular issue rest and get in with enjoying the route. Had a great time thrashing the 20’s up the bank out of Bickershaw on 7T75 at all of 5 MPH, sanding all the way and the huge sigh of relief getting to the summit.
Developers say a lot of things. sometimes its true and sometimes its (with the most gracious reading) a bit handwavish. As an example off of the top of my head, we were told the remastering of GWE wouldnt cause blurring textres. We have been told TSW on PC wouldnt be affected by TSW on Console. We have been told removing layers helps with blurring even though the layer selection thing (as said by DTG Matt himself) has no effect. So while it is easier to believe what Just Trains say over Alan Thompson Sim or Athena, i still dont think it can be taken as gospel
I think there might be the odd train which calls at Hartford and Winsford but probably on a skip stop basis, but these were mainly served by the hourly Crewe to Liverpool and vv hourly Class 304’s as was Acton Bridge where no Inter City services called. This of course is why the route timetable in a proper tabular form would be quite useful, whether public or working format, so you can have all the trains listed in one place and see what they do.
I really like the route but there are very few passenger services . But I really like it that its got ton of freight and shunting jobs. I reckon they could a loco dlc for this like 304.
As I just said in another of the threads, freight is really the bread and butter here and makes me glad I now rebought the route. Just a shame it wasn’t set a few years earlier when the Class 25’s were still everywhere.
Not wishing to prolong the to and fro, but just to defend myself I did no such thing. I quoted the bit in your post about degrading scenery, nothing more. Anyway, glad you're enjoying the repurchased route; sadly I won't get the chance until next weekend.
My bad then… Virtual handshake/pint of fine ale from the bar and move forward. In fact I’m counting down the hours now until I can get back on the route after tea.
I’m not sure about IRL but after the 5 MPH slog up from Bickershaw it was a white knuckle approach down that 1 in 80 to the first signal. I actually ended up using the steam loco trick of leaving the brakes applied but applying a bit of power to keep momentum. If I’d fully released the brakes on the final approach, they wouldn’t have reapplied quickly enough to prevent a SPAD.
Can ask your opinion i have a few different responses to this question. What is the ideal speed to load/unload coal. Thanks
I would say 2 MPH. I haven’t done one yet but watching Matt on the preview stream it seems the slow speed control is a bit redundant at Bickershaw with the falling gradient, it’s more braking work. The faster you go, the more chance of missing a full load and having to stop and back the train up. Hoping to take a crack at it later.
Hi Vern i tried at 2mph was to fast only half was emptied even 1mph was too fast. End doing it at 0.5mph and it emptied all ok. Bit long going that slow.
In all seriousness maybe a bit of licence should have been taken with this aspect. Though not as bad as those scenarios on Oakville where the game literally tells you to wait for 20 minutes while the imaginary unloading of the tankers took place.
I can quicken the unloading is enough players would like it, just like this message if you would want me to quicken it.
Guarantee you that a non-zero number of people will complain that it's too quick and unrealistic if you do that. Also (and I say this purely from a transparency perspective), you risk being swayed by a minority (users who care) of a minority (users on this forum). For fairness, also put a post asking people to like if they want it left as is.
I think it is a good suggestion to unload the hoppers slightly faster - those who want to unload at a realistic 0.5 mph still can, and those who would like to expedite the process at 1.0 - 2.0 mph, can also.
Keep it realistic, the same group that now says 0,5 mph is too slow is the same who complain about other things being unrealistic like missing arrival times etc.
It's a shame it's not something configurable in game settings, or actually it's an ideal situation where TSW should have the R+ R- feature of the various MS Flight Sims to speed things up a bit. Anyhow, I voted yes - make it 2 MPH to get the job done. There's a point at which the requirements of decent gameplay trump 100% accuracy. I mean, if JT ever did the Yorkshire Coalfield and Power Station network, going by that old Aire Valley 1990 SIAM traffic sim, some trains took over 2 hours to run through the unloaders at Drax or Eggborough. Fine if you're a driver getting paid for it and you can put your feet up on the cab desk and read the Rule Book, but not entertaining staring at a PC screen.
I don't see the harm in speeding it up a little. It seems like anyone who wants to drive the 0,5 mph still could. Of course, if in doing so we introduce some other complication to the timetable or something else, then I would say it isn't worth it to make the change.
Series S here. Only done two timetable events to date, so take that as limited runs. One loading at Bikershaw in a 20. No issues here. One Preston to Crew in an 86. Crash to desktop 3 miles from Crew. Blurry resolution seemed to jump in and out, funny enough never impacted the dial gauges, so speed was always clear enough to read. Reloaded from desktop and completed the end of the run no issue. I can load and walk around Crewe no issue also. Since TSW5, I've got into the habbit of saving every 10 mins or so. I run it in HD only. The other thing I've done is unload all routes and rolling stock that I don't use. So anything that's not UK based has been removed. I own most of the UK routes, but not all. I also, two months ago, got a 1TB memory card. Two reasons, one being that I was running low on space, two, to see if lack of space had any impact. I've moved all TSW DLC onto this card. The only other games on the unit are Roblox and Fortnight which the kids play. It seems to be a bit better now its gone from 20GB free to approx 170GB free. Only other route I've ever had CDT on was WCML South at launch, was sorted post patch.
Also to mention, I've removed all liveries from the creators club. I had a lot more issues with stability when I had those substitute in. I only have the official DLC liveries now.
I will say that I quite like the realism, it's very relaxing. Of course real train drivers can't have a video or some interesting reading on their spare monitor. I've only done it a couple of times though, as I've been doing more passenger runs than freight so far, and the novelty might wear off. Still, with such a lovely route and well-made stock, I don't mind either way. I'm having a great time (on PC/Steam) and other than a fairly small drop in FPS in the built-up areas at either end of the route, no problems at all with crashes, stuck signals etc. There's so much to try out, and I am particularly fond of how there is a large, walkable area around each station (as there is with Preston-Carlisle) so that you can wander into the scenery a bit. It really leans into the best elements of TSW.
