thanks - will check that setting… I don’t remember changing any settings from the initial install, but will check - thanks for taking the time a gander at the log…. Edit - did check the setting mentioned and it was set to 0…. Which was causing the spamming -set it back to the default of 2.00 and all is well. Not sure of how it got changed in the first place… but all is good now. Thanks once again
I had an issue with ThirdRails where it would seemingly crash and it turned out it was most likely Open Maps returning a Cloudflare or similar challenge when data was requested. Upon digging it turned out (unknown to me) my ISP was using a CGNat which basically puts a group of its customers behind one IP address to save on IP address's but this can play havoc with websites as they see what appears to be excess data / requests coming from one IP address and worse it could be that someone has been acting nefariously from behind that IP and caused it to be flagged. This was causing me to have excessive Cloudflare challenges which in a browser is annoying but when it comes to integrated apps can be show stopping, it also explained why my location was never accurate. This might be completely the wrong tree and very specific for my use case but thought it worth a mention, I had to ring my ISP and request to be taken off the CGNat and have a dedicated IP (not static but still not behind a CGNat)
I was thinking along those same lines since I am using Frontier Fiber… was going to use a VPN to see if presenting a different IP would resolve the issue
Well, now that you mention it, I have had a few rare occasions where map-related issues somehow resolved themselves, sometimes after a router restart, so they could potentially have been caused by something like what you describe. I doubt it would lead to a memory leak in ThirdRails, though, as I would expect it to result in an empty map rather than increasing memory usage.
Hi Been Separate issues, Lead was saying he was getting a 'TooManyRequests' error which I was replying to. Not wanting to hijack this thread Ill keep it short. I never was able to 100% say that getting Cloudflare challenges was causing Thirdrails to crash but since changing my ISP settings I have had 1 crash in a few months whereas before I would have multiple a week across different versions as well, and it would completely crash to desktop, losing whatever ride I was on. I didnt really pursue the issue externally as I was pretty confident the problem was user specific to me, your program is awesome and is a real credit to the work you have put into it!
No worries, and I don’t want to hijack the thread either. I just found your post very helpful. It’s definitely useful information to keep in mind when troubleshooting strange user-specific issues.
Having a new issue since the Crewe Preston update? When I run the program I get an all blue overlay box appear over the top of the ui! I cant close it as it just reappears, whatever it is it stops the app from working in game.
Weird, there were no significant code changes in the last update... Just the new anotations. Anybody else is having the issue?
all is working fine on my end… again many thanks for taking the time to help me with my configuration problem when I was getting TooManyRequests errors. This is a “must have” utility for my TSW enjoyment.
Is there a way to save the window size and position between sessions? Every time I open the application, I have to resize it. I tried to look for some setting in the application to save this, but perhaps my old eyes just missed it?
I was having this problem. Go in settings and go to the overlay tab. Make sure Annotation Window Mode is set to Overlay Window instead of Regular Window
Hi Winzarten, I did a complete reinstall of TSW and TSW Route Annotation today and for some reason I can't get it to go past Waiting for TSW now. I tried a full reinstall of TSWRA including deleting the TSWMarkPoints folder but that didn't help. Log for initial attempt and then the retry attached. The files WeatherProfiles.xml.1 etc the logs refer to do not exist in that location if that is of any help. Thanks!
Thanks for this, I will have a look on the Regular Window, possibly something got broken there. Are you sure, you're running TSW with the HTTPAPI enabled?
You're running it on Linux, right? If you get any success with the route annotations, please let me know. There were some Before this they wrote that the application doesn't work in Linux and doesn't receive data.
This was for the windows install (I have both now) but yes I will have a go with it on the Bazzite install and if I figure anything I will let you know! Haven't got everything I need set up in it yet so still mainly using windows.
I had a look, and for what I can tell everything looks fine. The 'regular window' is for uce-cases where people don't want an overlay, but rather would like to move the info to another screen. That's why it behaves like a normal window, and if you position it over the game, it will cover the game up. The only small issue right now is that it is also affected by the 'prevent closing' logic, so it cannot be closed (or rather, it will automatically re-open), and the only way how to close the app is to close the main window.
Where can we get in touch with you moving forward following the forum announcement? This is the most important mod for TSW and I'd like to be able to interact with you should bugs arise in the future.
Seeing as this part of the forum is on the cusp of being deleted, I just want to say thank you again to Winzarten for the great work, timely and helpful responses, etc. I think this will be the end of my time playing TSW. This mod has become a necessity for me, and without an easy way to keep up on issues and updates directly from the developer in a way I am comfortable and familiar, I just can't be bothered with all of it.
I missed this. Currently not, there was such functionality previously, but it was very buggy, so it is disable atm, until I find time to rework how it works ;-) That's weird, you shouldn't have a regular window bar then. Something weird is going on. Can you upload the log? I think this topic will stay. At most it will be moved to the 'Creators Club' subforum, and possible with a tag... so, if nothing more changes, this topic will still be the way to interact
OK, thank you for the answer. Hopefully you can find a way later on, if time permits. Anyway, thank you for a making and sharing such great application, and have a great day!
Winzarten First, I want to thank you for this mod, it, most definitely, is a game changer. I was watching a recent YT video from David Pearson where he shows you where the neutral sections are on Preston-Crewe. He set up Route Annotations with custom coords indicating the locations of the warning boards, and the NS itself. He also edited his video so that the vid border showed green 2 miles from the NS, yellow at the warning board, and red at the NS. So, I was wondering, is there a way to further customize the individual annotation to bring more attention to it? Maybe, give the text, or border, a custom color. Make that annotation text larger, or appear on a different part of the screen? I feel this would go a long way to start creating route learning annotations.
Just discovered this amazing app! It's so easy to use and really improves the experience imo. Just ran a Stamford-Grand Central stopper with live weather and it was on and off drizzle the whole way- perfect! Also Inspires me to do runs based on the local IRL time of the route, which makes me see a lot more of the game than i might otherwise. Thank you so much OP!
Hello, during today's drive I noticed that the clouds were forming and dissolving quite quickly (between 0% and 60%). How can I adjust the settings in the program so that the transition happens a bit more smoothly? At the moment, the following parameters are set: - Download 3 mins or 2200 meters - Update Smoothed every 10 seconds Thanks for your help!
I have the same problem. Clouds volume increased like х3 in an instant. And after 4-5 seconds clouds shrank back just as instantly.
I will think about how to cover this use-case. I would like to keep the 'visualization' settings, like font and color separate from the definition, becasue every user has his/her own preference how they would like to have them displayed. Ideally, neutral section should be part of the in-game track widget... But I doubt we will get them there. I will think about it ;-) You're welcome. Happy people are enjoying the app I also noticed this, most likely it is tied with the more frequent updates, and how much a reported cloud cover can change over short distance. In the next update the cloud rate change will be limited by max X% every minute. So the transitions shouldn't be so abrupt
I just finished an evening(~19:30) run on WCML_South with live weather and that was odd. With 100% cloud cover (85% in-game), the sun was shining the entire way. I couldn't see the sun itself behind the clouds, but it illuminated scenery like in clear weather. I actually liked it, since you can't get that effect in the vanilla game. It's just a shame the clouds were too light, IRL they're usually darker in this scenario.
I think the warning boards are the important ones - notification of a neutral section when you're almost upon it doesn't help very much.
