LOL who would have thought a privatised game about trains would end up going the same way as privatised rail :-D

I must have missed its period of being a publicly-owned entity!

Indeed. Though the 24 carat motive power for a trip over the Waterloo to Exeter route was a Class 50 and Mark 2A consist (with the Class 33 a close second).

Given the states record on running any kind of industry we’ll soon be wishing it was privatised again. CTDs will be as regular as a good old strike.. lol

Random thing entirely divorced from all the current happenings, but I think it's worth bringing up, Xbox are raising their prices again.

    https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/06/25/xbox-console-price-update/

Notably the base price for the Series S is now the same as the launch price of the PS5 back in 2020. They're also dropped the 2TB model entirely now due to memory prices.

In the context of this game it does drive me nuts that people just say "Get better hardware" in response to all the performance problems. Meanwhile the pricing for said hardware is the absolute worse it's ever been, it's crazy how unnatural this generation has been for hardware pricing. At this point in the 8th gen at retail you could pick up PS4's for $250, or a New Nintendo 2DS for $100. Meanwhile right now it would be considered a great victory just to see the PS5 be at $499 again, which is just insane to me.

It was a good advice until the end of October last year though, I am a victim myself, even though I am on PC, I only have 16GB of RAM and am stuck with 9th gen i5 CPU. Ain't no way I pay over twice as much for new RAM as I would pay for a desired new CPU.

I spent 5k on a build right before ram prices went insane in 2024 (7800x3d, 4080super, 32gb ram) and performance is fine, other than the poor implementation of shadow rendering. I get at least 100fps on all ultra settings at 4k. I've tried all the "mods" on that train sim site, and they either don't really make any improvement or introduce stuttering (especially if they're using scripts which inject through ue4ss) in the end I just had claude analyze and rewrite an ini and godmode sav for ue4ss and had him tune it to my system. Works 100x better than the original mod and fixes shadows.

Much the same applies to PCs, the same system that I bought in September last year is now getting on for 50% more expensive - the price of SSDs, memory and GPUs have all risen substantially, mostly because they're bought in bulk for AI data centres. :(

I think I’d take the class 33 over the 50 but each to their own!

Shame DTG never utilised the WSR class 33 more, it would have been fantastic in BR blue with snowploughs on a period SR route!

It also needs a better sound set as very muffled and more like a fast idle rather than “shredding” away, as we used to say!

Well there’s a bit of a dearth of UK Class types now, until we get to Page 170!

Wheels on the Class 66 and the Legends of Diesel locos on GWR resemble Catherine wheels.. wheels on carriages etc normal.. look like wheels. Not bothered to check if this is happening with other trains but I’ll check. Reported before but not addressed.

We still got class 165s, 166s and 168s so we're not in a dearth of UK class types.

Given that Claude is one of the reasons that hardware prices are through the roof that’s the least he could do to make amends!

Rumour at HQ has it that if this makes 5 years there’ll be a party to celebrate. Every attendee gets a ‘The Class 90 is fixed’ badge too… if it is. (This post is entirely satirical, not to be taken literally and so no feelings can be hurt).

That would be quite interesting to see - would you be able to share the prompts?

Most of the changes in the popular one are in the pak file, but you can just upload the ini file and the godmode.sav to Claude (I used Sonnet 4.6 - but Sonnet 5 is available now), throw it a link to the mod webpage so it can read the docs and tell it your system specs and tell it to improve and enhance the existing data to tune it to your system. Simple as that. I took the beast mode file and used that as a baseline. If you have a trash system though, you're probably not going to get any results. I found that his settings on beast weren't aggressive enough and running it through an agent analysis solved all remaining problems I had. Moreover, I finally eliminated all stuttering by not using any 3rd party mods and just doing it on my own. The Dynamic Hud Mod was the biggest culprit, because I believe he's recompiled his own UE4SS.dll and shipped it to make his mod work. It introduced all sorts of issues for me, not least of all that he installs his UE4SS.dll in the base win64 folder (when it should maintain the UE4SS folder structure of win64/ue4ss/mods. So if you've got another mod that requires you to install UE4SS you might actually have two versions running, his and the stock UE4SS install. Either way, he's using the UE4.26 script hook which was introducing stuttering. Removing his mod and ensuring my mods did not make any script calls on that hook removed all microstutters. Be careful with mods, because half of the time the "modders" are flying by the seat of their pants without real understanding of the changes they're making.
