I did just watch it and I think it was a good video with some good insight. I remember a few years ago it was said that the forums got about 465 messages per day. According to the video that's now over 1400 messages per day, which is a lot for only 5 people to moderate.

I think we have been heard. Thanks to all the members who gave detailed reasons as to why what was proposed for closing the GD subforum would have been a bad thing to do and thanks to everyone for weighing in with any comment on it. Thanks also to DTG for listening and keeping the forum intact.

Just watched the video of Alex, with a clear explanation of everything. From what I get, DTG didn't realize how important the General Discussion and the forum in general are for the community, well they do know it now I would like to say thank you to candacedtg for listening and communicating with us about this matter and passing through the feedback.

 

Great news and an excellent and very sensible explanation video from Alex. He makes some great points, especially around the future of the forums with regards to the Online Safety Act etc. I think most of us here welcome much stricter moderation to keep the forums safe and enjoyable.

 

My thanks and appreciation to the community team for reverting the closure of general, now hopefully everyone here behaves.

 

I don’t know who to thank from the DTG staff for this decision, but I’ll thank Candace, at least she was with us all this time.

But I'm absolutely certain that we need to thank every user who cared and took the time to defend our corner. Thank you, people!

This is excellent news, I'm not going to boast because I really appreciate the passionate points put forward and for DTG for listening. We're all winners.

One word of caution though. I am personally surprised that this has been reversed because I had a hunch that DTG had received some advice from their lawyers that the discourse was veering towards acts of defamation or threats that could be legally actionable. That doesn't now appear to have been the case.

However, I think we all shoulder some responsibility to keep our house in order and to think prior to posting.
1. Is this how I'd speak to someone to their face?
2. Are the allegations I'm making based on fact or conjecture?
3. How would I feel if someone was writing this about me?
4. Each one of us is a human whether we're a customer or a content provider.
5. Respect and empathy gets you much further in life than being angry and arrogant.

 

Great that General Discussion will live on. It’s good to see DTG listening to feedback.

 

Common Sense prevails!

 

As I've written before, there are countries where "rude" tone is the absolute norm.

You can say some people are too soft and take offense at nothing, or you can say some people are too rude and disrespectful. Or you can simply accept the fact that if you haven't been told f-off or directly insulted, then they treat you normally. It seems to me that many people here simply wouldn’t be able to get conversation in Eastern Europe, for example, because everyone there is “so rude”.

 

for once, community wins. i’m so proud of every single one of you who has advocated for the recovery of this subforum.

 

Simply great news, I read the General Discussion more than anything and interested in what people have to say (good and bad)....well done DTG, you listened !!

 

It's not our first big victory, a few years back when they were moving UE4 versions, think it was 4.3 to 4.6, they originally planned not to port any existing content over, we kicked up a big stink about it, DTG changed their plans, we won and the preservation crew was born

Thank you DTG! Maybe I'm not the one who writes here most, but love to follow discusissions around new DLC:s and features. People contributing with their knowledge around certain areas IRL, especially regarding the historical facts. Also every years speculations regarding the three core routes

Woke up this morning to this fantastic news. I'm very glad DTG listened to the feedback and common sense prevailed.
The focus should be always on stricter enforcement of the forum rules and improvements made to its moderation over time. None of us want to be in this position again with a few bad eggs ruining it for everyone

Tossed a tenner at Berninalinie to celebrate as it's one of the quality "odd duck" routes that I didn't yet own (and the Steam sale price was good). Good stuff, and it runs well. Just waiting on a good sale for Liberec now.

 

My interpretation is that as a moderator, candacedtg's position is neutral in everything but she has been on our side for keeping the forums by listening and passing back our comments and feedback as she has said she'd done a few times.

(Even though she's an AI bo... Nope, not going to say it!)

Regardless, the forums are here to stay, at least for a bit longer so let's all put past comments, indifferences or whatever aside and see what the future holds.

whether or not you agree with the community managers is irrelevant, if candace had not been as active as she was in this thread then i’m fairly sure the sub forum would be gone this time tomorrow.

 

So it looks like everything will pretty much go back to the way it was antebellum. Storm in a teacup? An overload of corporate speak? And I'm happy for those people who seem to need an outlet every five minutes to talk about nothing important or to simply bark at each other.

Well, my enthusiasm for the game and the forum is unlikely to return. An occasional dlc sale purchase is in my future and I'll post only if something really moves me. Frankly I've moved on from TSW and the nonsense over the weekend is just a rubber stamp.

( Can't for the life of me understand why the Off Topic section has to go. Mostly innocent and sometimes very interesting. Oh well! )

 

Thanks everyone on the community team for extending the life of this subforum. It has been an essential news source for me.
I also support the more restrictive rules going forward. TSW is a great pastime for me and the forums are where I get the most out of it. And feedback, both positive and negative, is critical to help me make decisions or troubleshoot issues or configure for improvements. But the sniping and fighting and name calling was bringing me down. This gives me hope the forums will return to their original level of quality.
