Even though I haven’t got a chance to play them yet, I just got Train Sim World 2 on Steam and I’m planning to get the rest of them this week during the summer sale. I’ve been wanting to ask Dovetail this question ever since the release of Wonders of Sodor on Nintendo Switch. First off, since you guys released the entire Train Sim Would series on Steam, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox series X and Series S, have you guys ever considered releasing and porting the entire Train Sim World series on Nintendo Switch like you guys did with Wonders of Sodor? I know that was the first time you guys ported a game on a Nintendo console, but it would be so cool if you guys also ported the entire Train Sim World series on Nintendo Switch as well. Have you guys ever or will consider that in the future?

    No way.

Nintendo switch, in the games current situation is not a viable option.

it is one of the weakest consoles for TSW, on par with Gen8.

having it would be a liability.

No problem, I understand. It was just a suggestion.

to echo the above reply- it’s impossible. a switch is significantly less powerful than a gen 8 console, which themselves should’ve been abandoned years ago

To be honest, I actually haven’t really thought about that when you mentioned the system’s limited hardware for games to work. Even though Wonders of Sodor does have its problems on Switch, but it still works. I just thought since we got Wonders of Sodor on Nintendo Switch, why not TSW. As I mentioned before, it just a suggestion. But I understand.

The game is already held back by consoles we don't need another one adding to the list lol

Nothing to be sorry about. It was a legitimate question on your part. Unfortunately hardware limitations of the switch would make the gameplay experience less than stellar. Welcome to the forums by the way.

Switch could probably handle some of the older DLC, but given that it's considerably down on power versus even Gen 8 there's no chance that it could run anything newer without grinding to a halt.

You only need to look at Wonders of Sodor on Switch to see why we don't have TSW. It's a blurry mess. Just about playable but nowhere near the quality of the other console versions.

I was hoping for something to keep me entertained while travelling, but it just made me annoyed so I turned it off and listened to an audio book instead.

Maybe it was considered, but probably thrown out pretty quickly

While it isn’t the switch, I have loaded TSW on my Steamdeck and it has acceptable performance. When on the road I use the docking station and connect to a TV and use a controller. Even on the deck by itself, it will definitely cure the itch in a pinch. Plenty of info on the settings to get optimal performance.

I know the Switch probably wouldn't work, but what about the Switch 2? Is that powerful enough to run TSW? I'm fairly certain it's had a hardware upgrade but I might be imagining things...

The thing with the Switch is it's more hard wired and designed for arcade style games like Mario etc... It isn't really designed for the intensity of TSW. My misses has the Switch 2, and whilst it's an improvement over the Switch 1, it still isn't even on the same level as my PS5 (and Gen9 like my PS5 is struggling as it is).

If there was something like MSTS it would run like a knife through butter for Switch. But something like TSW needs something with a bit of a bite to it which the Switch just doesn't have unfortunately.

Switch 1 is more akin to a mobile phone, it doesnt have much GPU grunt to it which is why the res is lower on Wonders of Sodor, plus we optimised in ways that you just wouldn't want to on the full TSW.

Switch 2 is very roughly similar to a PS4. So, kinda? but again, not sure how good an experience it would be.

    Neither are planned :)

    Matt.

Maybe a cloud version could be possible? That way it would be streamed from the cloud instead of the hardware but I don't know if that's something DTG would consider doing, the game would require a constant internet connection to work.

Hi Matt, for starters I wanna say thank you for your kind response to my thread. I also want to say thank you to you and your team for creating these awesome Train Simulator video games, so far I’ve already got Wonders of Sodor on Switch and I recently got Train Simulator Classic on Steam and I’m already having a blast with them! I still haven’t got a chance to play the Train Sim World Series yet, I already got the first and second and I’m planning to get the rest before the summer sale ends in eight more days.:)

I know you stated that neither TSW are planned for the Switch systems, I was just making a suggestion about the idea. But again, I completely understand and I wanted to thank you again for your response! :)

You're quite welcome - honestly I hadn't used the Switch much before Sodor (my wife is the big Switch player in the house) but I was really impressed by the console as I tested Sodor on it. As much as I love my Steam Deck - it's a heavy bulky beast compared to the Switch and even more so compared against the Lite that my youngest has, so I can absolutely see why people prefer it. I bought myself a Switch 2 after getting used to them!

Hope you continue to enjoy ! :)

    Matt.

If you want a portable TSW experience I can confirm my Ayaneo with its 32GB of memory handles TSW well enough to get 60fps if you drop a few settings. I expect the higher end Ally X or comparable handheld hardware would do similarly.

you’re also on PS5 cloud streaming… and it works very well, though when I last tried, not all content entitlements were showing once the game loaded

Yep, I've played a couple of versions of TSW via XCloud and I agree it works well, contingent on a reasonable internet connection.
