Thanks but I lied im still playing this route cause I love it. Just give me self a heart attack when im using them brakes.
Would someone be able to look into this Ben? Really love the extra paths but no loading times makes writing scenarios difficult.
Ahh thanks for the info, for every day I'd be out on an air braked train I'd have done six on vacuum and sadly it's been two years since I was on the footplate (due to life getting in the way) though that should be changing soon I'd forgot that it's not the same as the speedup, it would be one of them things used maybe once or twice a day if that, and it was usually just because I'd have overdone it slightly, joys of pres and 8 carriage trains really. I still maintain that direct vac is the future Due to the crazy heat last week (it hit 43c in my "man cave") so I didn't get anywhere near as much running as I'd intended to but did notice improvements in the braking/releasing, mostly with the HAA's and I think that was because I just had to remind myself that it's a long rake and takes a while for the brakes to come on at the back and longer to come off then drive accordingly and it seemed to work. I'm using a keyboard so will just be extra careful when releasing to not overcharge. Thanks again
PS5. Pretty smooth runs with the class 86 other than some blurry textures but I can't complete a single timetable service with the class 20. I've tried 4 times now and just when I'm about to reach the end of the service the game crashes
I seem to be having a repeat issue at the likes of WBQ and WNW where by if you are at the location for more than a couple of minutes fps drops from 60fps down to 15-20fps and does not improve unless you save, exit to main menu and then load the save at which point fps is back up where it should be. I think it’s possibly relates to when an AI service arrives at the location but it isn’t just a usual stutter or fps drop for a few seconds it becomes permanent until the save and reload. I’ve just done the Thunderbird scenario and had to save and reload three times (WBQ, WNW and then WBQ again) due to the fps dropping to 15-20fps. Ok so when you start a service with the 47 most of the time the brakes are set to passenger air brake. Now would I have to change accordingly to what actually driving. OldVern hi mate would I have to change the brakes myself.
I hope the brakes are sorted soon, as the 47/3 and 20s brakes have the consistency of Wet Pasta when on freight trains. I've spadded several times as a result. PS5
For freight trains with a maximum speed of 60 mph or below, that switch would be set to Goods for the appropriate brake type. Trains with a maximum speed above 60 mph would use Passenger. In practice I believe that means only the container freight services on the Just Trains routes use Passenger, and all other freights use Goods.
Speaking of, I’ve tried looking, but I haven’t managed to find a G/P-selector on the freight cars like I’m used to from Germany/continental Europe. Were British cars locked to either G or P without possible adjustment?
There shouldn't be any on the wagons, the brake selector on the locomotive will tell the locomotive to adjust the brake timings accordingly, it applies/releases the brakes faster or slower depending upon the setting
Some odd behaviour noticed earlier today on the "coffins", the vestibules are blocked/clogged with passengers. It starts at the loco end of the train and stops randomly a few carriages in, see attached photos (please note that images 2 & 3 are out of order so it should be both blocked, one blocked/one clear, both clear). I've not been able to check if this behaviour is on any other route nor rolling stock yet as this was just a quick play but happened on runs between Warrington and Earlestown in both directions.
UK wagons (well historical wagons) don't generally have GP valves, they're usually fixed for life in a single brake mode. Usually loose coupled wagons with instanters like HAA/HEA/PGA/PCA/TEA were fixed to goods timing. Close coupled wagons like the FGA were fixed to Passenger timing. The idea being since its loose coupled if you were on P timing you could very easily get severe run in shocks as the brakes at the front of the train come on rapidly while those at the back have barely reacted causing the back to career into the front. The G timing being slow, gradually applies the brakes giving time for the brake pipe to drop the entire length of the train so the brakes come on along the length of the train roughly evenly. reminder being UK G timing is around 20 seconds for 20-28 seconds for the brake to come to full force, and 30-45 seconds to come off again. While P timing is 2-5 seconds and 15-20 seconds for release
JT Benedict hi did you say there was a fix for the 86 headlights ive 5 night jobs using different varieties of 86. And there all so dark could not see a thing.
JT Could we have a report of how you are getting on now that we are two weeks on from release please? My main problem is in the Crewe area, the north end of the station to be specific which seems to be a memory sink. I've tried coming in from the north on the WCML, off the Chester line, passing through from the south via the station and on the independent lines and game stalls or crashes every time. Outside this area is fine, not even had much problems at Warrington but not tried out that area much to be honest. When it stalls looking at memory use it's about 90% or just above. I've tried reducing quality, turning off all layers, uninstalling all UK DLC, clearing cache and had no improvement. Tried running the introduction about 15 times now and crashes during the info on the 86 every time. I'm on a PC on Steam AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics 16GB AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT graphic card Have all DLC for layers except Peak Forest. Been looking forward to this DLC for so long, just want to use it - looks brilliant.
Just for the sake of sharing specs and experience, hoping to help narrow things down Intel i9 3.20Ghz 32 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 (12GB) Windows 11 Home 64bit TSW running on external USB SSD 1TB All UK DLC installed except Mildmay, ATS90, 802GBR, HST Farewell, Athena ECML Railtour. I have recently uninstalled all non-UK DLC but haven't noticed a difference in performance. I'm having no issues memory wise or FPS wise aside from the very occasional stutter when loading in a new area, particularly at speed. The only "blurry" textures I am experiencing are from DTG's optimisations on a recent patch as it affects other routes too, that the textures are not hi-rez until you are very close to them/zoomed in on them. Again, just wanted to share specs to see if we can narrow things down
We're putting together a list of things that we'll want to look into and don't worry brakes of the wagons are up there. The brakes of the locomotives themselves should be fine though.
When it comes to the patch we've only been looking at memory, crashing and performance issues rather than issues with things like the timetable so we can try and get these major fixes to everyone as quickly as possible. The things we've done should help memory wise as we've mainly reduced texture sizes on things like Normal and Mixed maps, especially on the rolling stock both included in the route and used commonly (Like the 87 and Mk3's) and we've managed to get some nice savings overall from doing so. This will also help with the blurries issue which is mainly common on consoles as we've reduced the size of textures loading into memory hopefully meaning that the allocation is in a much nicer way. Alongside doing all the memory optimisations we've also been reducing draw calls throughout and will be intending on doing more for a future patch that will come out after this one.
Havent played the route for technical reasons, so are the brakes really that weak or is it that some players compare with an electric emu or a car? Jt should adjust eventual misalignment compared to real, but im against just making them stronger because some players didnt check the selector and drive the express train in "air goods" condition.
The brakes are really weak even if you use the correct brake setting. Its something to do with the wagons. Because driving a lite loco the brakes are just fine.
Glad to hear it’s being looked at. Best advice at present is to regard the affected freights as being Class 9 (the old meaning of the designation) and unfitted and not exceed 25 MPH, allowing a much greater stopping distance.
One of my favorite parts of Train Sim World is seeing all the moving and static trains as I'm driving the train. I hope you don't remove any of that as your optimizing the route.
JT Benedict hi mate I just tried all class 20s at night none of them have light glow. Lights on but you cant see anything. This is xbox series x. Also does the 87 provide extra passenger jobs or does just have the same has the 86. Thanks
This is a problem with most trains, running a night service on The Rivera line in the GWE 80x its pitch black from the cab, I did a service in London to Milton Keynes in a 390 & it was also pitch black, night lighting in TSW is awful, there should be some ambient lighting from twilight/surroundings & also illumation from the train but in most cases there is zero! Best I've seen is from a 66! The headlight of an 86 is not much use in the real world but it should throw some light forward. Overall TSW lighting needs a revamp but no one seems to care.
i think the lighting is about right for night time. a lot if city folk forget how dark night can be,especially under cloud. i've worked in the peak district delivering out to some remote locations after dark and you can barely make out your hand in front of you or the sheep on the other side of the hedge that barrs at you and makes you jump over the moon with the cow. headlights should be taken as marker lights only to indicate a passing train. to have a high powered one, you run the risk of dazzling a passing driver and increase the risk of him not seeing the next signal. same on a road with all these new LED lights if someone has full beam on, on an unlit road. you cannot see past that car and the road ahead. also the amount they would light up in front your not stopping in time if travelling at 125mph unless you have a mini sun on the front. those 2 screenshots look to me how it should be. indeed i had a fun one recently on MAC where i found myself turning the 66 lights onto shunt mode in heavy fog at night because of the glare coming back off the fog. another phenomenon that can be experienced driving on unlit roads at nigh hence fog lights (as marker lights) and full dipped beam and drive slow not like some muppets that drive full beam and blind the s out of you.
I don’t think there was anything that called all stations on the main line. Leyland was served only by local trains to and from Manchester. Winsford and Hartford saw the odd express call but not at both and along with Acton Bridge were mainly served by the hourly Crewe to Liverpool and vv, which JT have chosen not to represent, as it would require a Class 304 EMU.
Thanks Vern just seems a waste having all these stations and not using them. I know there's free roam but I dont like that.
that's my only let down with the route so far is there are not many that i can find, services from preston to layland or wigan going to manchester. i know they would be short and sweet but to add an extra 10-20mins coming off BPO. plus some of those bite size scenarios are the ones i like.
Indeed. Though without a full route to run on, it just wasn’t viable to do a Class 304 and the Class 101 DMU wouldn’t have seemed right, though with hindsight maybe better than nothing.
yeah i think so, ive got everything from previous JT releases other than the nuclear cargo pack. and have checked all layers are on. im on pc
yeah ive got them listed all listed. like i said slight disappointment, but with the work JT have done in other areas, its bloody hard to knock them with the work they have put in.
On a different note im getting few ctd but none if have been near crewe. Mainly around Wigan and Preston.
It would be nice if they did a follow up pack similar to the 86/2 which added the 304 and the Liverpool line even if only to Runcorn. 304 would also cover the hourly Crewe to Piccadilly stopping services. Throw in the Mark 3 sleeping cars for a couple of quid more and I’d buy it.
With the 304 modified for a 504 and the Manchester - Bury electric line as part of my suggested "Manchester Networks" map Never mind gas, we're cooking on Nuclear Fusion
With the way that layering is now bloating the game, the way forward is a dedicated and detailed stock pack that can be used on multiple routes.
The intention is for only the high intensity light to cast light rather than the marker lights but it seems like some of the high intensity lights aren't working as intended so will be looking at them.
Trying to figure out why I'm missing services others have, for instance services using HEA wagons? In my layers it says HEA owned but speedlink (WCML Preston - Carlisle) not.owned, I do own Preston - Carlisle, for instance I don't have any runs into Deepdale colliery or Wharton sidings, only Deepdale run ai have is a rail tour. Playing on PS5.
