Brand new class 90 90001 heads north along the WCML near Southwaite with one of it's first high speed test runs from Crewe to Carlisle in 1987. This was a 100mph test with a mixed/scratch rake of 10 mk2 and mk3 coaches plus RTC Test Car 10 behind the loco.
Back to the late 80s now. My records aren't spot on but I think it was the summer of 1986 when a couple of us visited the area so 40 years give or take a month. One of us had colour film the other B&W film and we were both perched next to each other on a mail trolley on the platform. 86427 "The Industrial Society" breaks out of the darkness and races through Lancaster station with a southbound parcels service.
