I think it's more nostalgia than anything else. Class 47s and HSTs were everywhere when I was a kid, and I hated both, but now they are almost extinct I miss both. The 460 is cool, but the 458 has a face only a mother could love.
I do like a 460, but ditto on the 458 looks. I don’t dislike HST’s in the same way I don’t dislike IET’s but they’re both equally bland in their long distance roles. In game I can certainly enjoy a 43 run on MML & then an 802 run on Riviera, but I couldn’t use either for hours on end like I could a 465 or a 158. I do get a chuckle out of the whole ‘one handle’ thing though, asif a 3 step brake is some sort of wizardry. In any case the Class 90 will be nice to get in game, hope we get a few more designs of that era.
I loved the HST's but the only true livery for me was in it's BR Blue era, I didn't mind it in the IC livery but as for liveries after that in privatisation, nah the HST just wasn't the HST for me then.
Hahaha, yes the 'one-handle EMU' comments are hilarious. Like a second handle makes it rocket science!
Have popcorn ready for when Just Trains drop their class 108. It's going to be like NTP and TVL for the kiddies all over again.
I don't know what's happening with it, why it hasn't been on any roadmap at all. But its definitely not dead, this was only 10 days ago.
Didn't Heathrow connect and Heathrow express co-exist during that era? Heathrow Express with the 387 being a non stopper?
Liam as the official developer can correct me if I'm wrong here... But I'm sure it was previously mentioned the 387 pack will cover a few liveries outside of the GWR one and will have layers on other routes (ECW Remastered is one example). So we have the base GWE route to Hayes & Harlington, but there will be one or other routes that bulk this DLC out too.
Yeah I'm sure when the remaster was in development, prior to the GWR 387 announcement that as well as the Heathrow Express inspired livery, there was also a C2C inspired livery that was added before the 387's were removed from the final remaster. If the C2C inspired one is still being added, then along with the GWR liveried versions it actually makes a 2026 BML more authentic, given some of those units are being used by Southern now, just with Southern locos added to replace the originals. I suppose a potential reason why we're still waiting for it, is perhaps because they're adding a Great British Railways version to it as well, given we have a 387 painted in that scheme now.
yep, but I'm only saying you'd think Hayes and Harlington had enough services without adding a 387 one in.
any video evidence? tried looking it up by youtube's search result is utter garbage and i cant find anything. Why would they even use a few trains just to shuttle to hayes from paddingtion??? and its not even the heathrow 387... (ik they dont even enter service at the time. But i doubt anybody would be bothered to model and sell a class 332. Let alone we even have any references to even make a model off)
The Hayes Bay shuttle was used as a shakedown for the units on delivery, taking up the paths of the Greenford services to/from Paddington, which were cut back to West Ealing. But if this is the implementation given the time the route is set, an all stations 15 to 20 minute run isn’t going to set the world alight.
Them using the 387’s back then in that small section came down to a mix of staged introduction into the network, relief for rush hour and the fact that they just couldn’t use them any further than Hayes at the time. I think getting the drivers used to the new fleet was another factor. here in this video go to 4:17 where it shows one pulling into Hayes platform 5
I have a feeling it'll be saved for TSW 7 to release alongside a new GWR route. Because what is the point having this DLC just for Paddington to Hayes runs and AI at Cardiff?
Well, most likely because this will be a TSW6 (well most likely TSW7) standard 387 compared to the TSW2 era one that has become very outdated for now. And will have all the upto date features of modern TSW content. Last but not least this will layer onto a few routes compared to the one we have now which I think only layers on to ECW on a few short runs. Hopefully with any update the GX 387 will be updated to the same standard.
While the main focus of the pack is the GWR 387, we're also including as many variations of the GWR 387's from both before and after their time with GWR (licensing permitted), along with the HHA-A and HHA-D wagons for stock moves. The 387 itself will be vastly improved from the current one in TSW, with every aspect of the train being looked at and upgraded. Gameplay wise, it will be playable on both the 2016 and 2017 GWE timetable's for a variety of service patterns, plus ECW as a player picked train, MML as a factory stock move and AI on Cardiff. It'll also be available to DTG and any 3rd parties to layer onto future content if they choose to do so. Hoping to share more and go into further detail as soon as I can
Thanks Liam, interesting info! Presumably this also means DTG could update the existing 387s with the features of the new one, if they were so inclined. I personally think such quality of life updates are something they need to start doing systematically when a new version of a train is released.
They wouldn't be allowed to copy/paste from the new one as it is a 3rd party train, but there's nothing stopping them from upgrading the current 387 themselves to the latest standards.
Where else do the 387's run? I think they run up to didcot parkway - paddington these services correct me if i'm wrong
Just trying to see where the speculation could head too lol, since we have SWR licensing. I'm betting on that it's SWR core route so perhaps GWR services could layer in on whatever SWR route we may get (But it's all speculation)
To be SWT while allowing GWR layering would need to be something like Portsmouth-Bournemouth, not sure 387s run there though
Interesting from Liam, so it's not out of the question that we could have one of these to use on BML.
