TSW6 has been the most problematic game I've ever owned in my life, months have I been dealing with blurry textures, crashes mid-service, lag that shouldn't honestly be happening with a PS5, and it doesn't seem like there's light at the end of the tunnel. I'm tired of not being able to complete a service longer than 30 minutes because any longer and my game will crash. I delete and reinstall this game numerous times just to come across the exact same issues no less than 10 minutes into playing. There's no point wasting hours and hours of running services and scenarios if the game won't ever let me physically finish one. I made an account just for this rant because I'm disgusted with this outdated, incomplete, unplayable game
I had the same issue with my playstation until.i brought it to a repair shop. Now it has barely crashed since. Maybe twice in the span of like 2 years. Sometimes, it's a hardware issue. I know a lot of PS5s had the same overheating issue which caused crashes. Might be a good idea to get it looked at.
Not to defend the game or DTG, but crashes are very rare at my end and if it happens, it's on a specific route. Yes there are issues like blurry textures and out of memory problems, but it's not like every route is crashing. Of course you can rant about it, but the more important information about which routes are crashing is missing. So without more information it's not very helpful, other players can't help you and also DTG can't do anything with only the rant.
Recently only had crashes when driving the Acela on NY-Stamford (very specific). Otherwise, these hardly occur.
I do genuinely believe it's some PS5 hardware. I had constant crashes up till 2 years ago when I got it repaired. I believe it was that liquid metal issue that was the cause of mine.
I'm on PC and find the game rarely crashes, and have no real complaints about performance. The majority of crashes I do have were because of conflicting or outdated mods, rather than the game itself.
Same here, I've just had a marathon session that included 4 route hops, absolutely no problems. PC though.
Is it not counter-productive to repeatedly uninstall and reinstall the game? The first time you run a route it builds the shader cache for the route, the game is generally a bit stuttery while it does this and IIRC it uses a bit more resources. Surely uninstalling (thus deleting the shader cache) every time you encounter a problem just means it's constantly rebuilding the cache the next time you run the game? Or is there some backup of the cache on consoles that I'm not aware of?
The only crashes I've had since moving to PC have been a result of dodgy mods. My time on PS5 however did see numerous crashes, blurry textures, every single issue that people have described. This was through me having almost all UK and EU content installed mind you, it did get a little smoother once the move to PC began and I only left the EU content on there. The root causes of those issues will still exist in our PC copies, it's just that PC memory is far more flexible and our hardware is likely strong enough to just brute force any issues that would come up
One thing you have to credit TSW with, is it’s fairly reliable. It may stutter and chug along but the only regular CTD’s I have are the known issues with loading a saved game on GWE remastered which actually locks the whole PC (not tested with the new GPU) and Frankfurt S Bahn, also on loading a saved game but doesn’t take the PC with it. As regards gameplay, when TSW starts to wear thin switch to something else. I’m currently having fun playing freight car Sudoku on my newly acquired Modesto section for Run 8, or doing some runs in the truck sims or Snowrunner.
I play the game with a 10 year old GPU and have very few issues. No crashes or freezes, I get some lag around the BR Class 171 from the exhaust, but for the large part, I can play the game just fine. Though I will be swapping to either an RTX 5050 8GB or an RTX 5060 8GB in the coming months, depending on what is available. CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700x GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GB Windforce OC RAM: 32GB
Crikey. And I kept getting told the old GTX 1650 I was using was an old dinosaur (now fitted a RTX 3050 which is the most my current rig can take).
It has been a very reliable GPU and I bought it for £156 on Amazon new, which is a world away from what GPUs cost today. I do still play older games such as Call of Duty World at War, Call of Duty BLOPS 1, Euro Truck 2, N64 emulation, MSFS 2020 and the Assassin's Creed franchise up to Mirage. Some of these games need some adjustment to settings to be fully playable.
There seem to be individual console issue rather than systemic issues beyond obsolescence. Some have great performance, others don't on what should be the same system out of the box. Could it be in fact due to the shaders not having time to reload when you keep installing/uninstanlling/installing? How much content do you have on your system? I don't have a PS5, but I have an XBox and I know that performance greatly depends on how much free space I have on it. It really sucks if the hard drive gets full. The blessing and curse of consoles is that they are very standardized so they "should" in theory be cheap and all run roughly the same. However, there are still conditions (like a full hard drive) when they don't. On the other hand, that standardization also means they're "stuck" at whatever they were when they were created so the technology lags behind and you can't change settings or use mods. Pros and Cons as always. Is it the "game" though? I hesitate to say that when other people on the same model system are not having issues. There is the possibility you got a "bad one" with an internal defect too (overheated board, faulty fan, loose wire?)...or something is wearing out internally over time. What else do you use on PS 5 and how do those other games run?
Same with my 1650, much scoffed at by certain individuals on here, it was actually quite a strong card even in games like Snowrunner or MSFS 2020. Only TSW struggled on it. Of course the RTX3050 is better and it even means I can get better FPS and no more jitter in Run 8!
If you guys think TSW is bad, you have not begun to see the amount of spaghetti games out there =-) Try to give some of the indy bleeding edge stuff a try like "Star Citizen." It's generally expected you don't need to log out because the game will eventually just crash regularly anyway... or your computer will one or the other.
I’d say if anything I’m more into this game than ever - there’s so much in the library now that it gets played pretty much every day, always something that fits the mood. Mebbe I’m just lucky to be on PC, but it’s 5 years old and nothing fancy. Works for me, is all
I'm tired of the obvious bugs and lack of QA. I love the game though. It feels like an abusive relationship at this point.
it's a good thing I only like GTA and train simulators lol, otherwise I'd be constantly stressed out even though it sucks having to use my sister's PS5 Pro to play GTA 6 because cuckstar isn't releasing it for PC
TSW 4 drove me around the bend, trying to play Bakerloo timetable, it crashed every session. When TSW 5 came out it solved the problem, I am still on TSW 5. Shiney and new is nice, stable is better. I ran SEHS on TSW 6 and it was a hot mess, blurry textures, the trains looked like Robox or something, wouldn't mind but I just completed the whole timetable in TSW 5 not a problem, ran fantastic. Some times I travel as a passenger just to chill out, TSW 5 you can do that no problem-ish, but try doing that in TSW 6 and go from internal camera to external to internal again and good luck. You can end up frozen in the centre isle of the train, in another seat unable to move or molded to the bulkhead. I contacted DTG and they assured me there is currently no fix for this problem? The problem that wasn't a problem in TSW 5, is now a problem in TSW 6 and there is no fix? So, basically they broke a certain aspect of the game with the new improved version? That is another reason I am not moving off TSW 5 and I am not buying anymore content. I bought Thames Valley to support that gentleman, but that's it.
So you bought it but don't plan on playing it? If you say your not moving from TSW5 then you won't be able to run it.
PS5 Pro here... For me, crashes due to low memory depends on the length of the route I'm playing and the amount of traffic going on certain complex platform stations while on approach with all layers running. My crashes have been: WCML Trent Valley (35 layers): Milton Keynes to Crewe route crashed as soon as I opened the passenger doors after arriving at Crewe. (35 layers running) WCML Birmingham to Crewe: After arriving at Birmingham New Street and exiting the cab, the route has crashed a couple times while proceeding on foot on the platform while inside Birmingham New Street terminal. Too many trains entering the station at the same time eats up whatever memory is left after running the route. NEC NY to Stamford (28 layers): When running from Stamford to Grand Central Station it will crash while inside tunnel approaching the Grand Central Station platform. Also route will not bother loading and crash if starting from Grand Central Station with all layers running. I ended up reducing layers from 28 to between 10 to 14 and it ran fine afterwards. With simpler routes the game is pretty stable. Longer complex routes however and the route crashes every now and then. It's not ideal and shouldn't be this way but my workaround has been if I think I might run a longer complex route I will close the TSW 6 game, restart the PS5, reload the TSW 6 game and choose the lengthy/complex route I want to run. So far no crashes using this method. Then again, having to do a system and game restart every single time before running a more complex route just to regain memory shouldn't be a necessary method either.
Im on the base ps5 and right now only New York to Stamford route is causing crashes and even that didn't crash before the update they had in may.
I think only Donald Trump manages to edge out Chris Roberts when it comes to people who've spent over a decade successfully proving the old adage that there's "A sucker born every minute"...
Although I experienced no crashes, the stuttering is getting worse as new routes get more detailled and become more demanding. It's getting to a point where I'm considering replacing my 1 year old PC, but the problem is even a good PC isn't guaranteed to run TSW smoothly. My PC is running any other game I play very fine, and only struggles with TSW. I'm thinking that says more about TSW than my PC. It's a badly optimized game, but DTG seems to be unable to optimize their game. Ryzen 7 5800X, GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, 16GB RAM, if anyone cares. I'm told that's not a bad PC.
Not this again for pities sake! Speak to someone who has been in a abusive relationship and then come back and tell us the two are comparable.
I know it's a terrible time to consider this, but have you thought about upgrading to 32GB of RAM? My specs: Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 4070 Ti SUPER, 32GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro (latest build), Nvidia driver 566.36 stutters are almost rare for me
I have thought about it, it'd be a relatively affordable upgrade (still not cheap, but well...), but a friend of mine runs TSW with 32GB RAM and still gets stutters too, so I doubt RAM is the solution. I think my 8GB VRAM might be more of a bottleneck. Although I remain my opinion that TSW is badly optimized. Any other game runs fine. I see no excuse why TSW needs to stutter.
yes and yes tsw is very poor optimized and your 8GB GPU is the bottleneck of your rig but anyway, it would be a good idea to consider adding another 16GB of RAM keep in mind that windows 11 (assuming that's your operating system) uses 4GB of RAM just to keep running
32GB RAM and a 16GB GPU here, if you think you can buy yourself out of getting stutters you are going to end up with an empty wallet and stutters.
That's what I'm afraid of, I'd be spending a lot of money without any gaurantee it actually fixes the problem I'm expierencing. And that's even assuming DTG won't keep making future TSW versions even more demanding. Thanks for the confirmation of my suspecions.
I am working my way through each DLC timetable from launch to current and I am currently at London Commuter.
As a PC player, a lot of it depends on what else you're doing on your PC. What windows and programs do you have open? Music? Youtube? Social media? Anti-virus? Etc. There are HUGE difference in how TSW plays depending on what else my computer is doing at the same time. When it's just TSW... always smooth. That of course doesn't really happen on console because that's pretty much just for gaming. However, at some point (like in PCs) age starts to creep in and like people machines start to show their age. Some hardware, some software, some just memory not freeing up like it used to. Sucks when the memory doesn't work like it used to ;-)
Definitely agreeing with Ben here. Took my PS5 for a health check last month and suddenly I have far fewer crashes, the FPS is more stable and the blurriness seems to happening less often. No, it’s not perfect but it improved things massively for me.
I appreciate that. People are quick to blame DTG when hardware can be the reason, in particular for PS5s. Videgames are not, have never been and will never be 100 percent perfect. Its how anything in life works really. People expect just because its a simulation, it needs to be absolutely identical, which isn't the case. It's only to simulate real.life, not replace it.
worst game when playing with trains is https://store.steampowered.com/app/446490/Rail_Cargo_Simulator/ maybe there are even worse out there
