Just wondering if this pack is any good. Especially after the remaster, it's on a good discount. Did the stock get any decent updates? And timetable wise is it any good, are they featured on the new 2017 timetable?
It's a new timetable for GWE set in the 80s I believe, it's very barren though. The stock did get updated with the GWR remaster but in my opinion it's not a good DLC. If it's really cheap then sure but it's nothing special.
Its main purpose was to give a BR Blue experience to GWE, and to test (and introduce to the game) the multiple timetables feature. In that sense, it succeeds. It features some interesting moves. It's not the most amazing timetable compared to what's come out since, though. On a sale you might get some worth from it. In the remaster the stock got TOD4 updates and I think suspension physics.
If you play for medals then its not for you gold is the highest to achive but almost most jobs get bronze or silver.
Whilst I was critical of the pack at first, and I still am as the pack is conflicting with 70s locos in a 2015 ish setting, i've found myself enjoying the pack and gave a different timetable and operating perspective. However, the pack has severe flaws witb some scenarios either unfinishable or the stopping distances are so precise, almost to the cm, that it's not worth finishing. At full price? I wouldn't recommend it. 50% off +? Go for it, it can be a nice run. Gameplay packs need more effoet put into thrm.
There is also still a bug with one of the journey services that flips the loco off the track right at the start, so journey mode is not possible to complete. It's been this way for years.
I eventually bought it in a sale, very cheap, after refusing to buy it for years, this was after the remaster of the route. Frankly I wish I hadn't bothered. The timetable is poor and I find seeing unrealistic formations and sealed beam class 45's and blue/grey 101's alongside Westerns more egregious that running a supposed 1970's era timetable on a route set in modern times. The actual Westerns are nicely done though and I hope one day there might be a suitable period route to layer them on.
I found it a bit dull driving the Western between Paddington to Reading, but it’s totally worth it for a blue Western to run on Riviera where you can really give it some thrash!
At the time, DTG made it because people were making scenarios using Westerns, 47s etc etc and they wanted in, so they made it to cash in. For the time it was released it was great fun even if the timetable was sparse. It's still worth a purchase now if you want an idea of how the GWML was in the 1970s, just try and ignore all the modern stations, signals etc etc.
Yeah, this - literally a straight line at full speed for 30 minutes or whatever. GWE was probably the first TSW route I put any time into, so there's a nostalgia factor, but beyond that it's not one of my favourites.
