SOUTH WESTERN MAINLINE (PHASE ONE): WEYMOUTH - SOUTHAMPTON CENTRAL The South Western Mainline (Phase One) from Weymouth to Southampton Central will introduce a vital transport corridor into the Train Sim World community. Spanning around 61 miles it stretches across rural Dorset (Dorchester - Wareham), dense commuter areas (Poole / Bournemouth and Southampton) as well as the scenic New Forest national park. It would serve 25 stations across the line and Lymington Branch: Weymouth Upwey Dorchester South Moreton Wool Wareham Hamworthy Poole Parkstone Branksome Bournemouth Pokesdown For Boscombe Christchurch Hinton Admiral New Milton Sway Brockenhurst Lymington Town Lymington Pier Beaulieu Road Ashurst New Forest Totton Redbridge Millbrook Southampton Central So why the South Western Mainline? Train Sim World would benefit from seeing more Southern routes - with mixed operations across the coast including semi-fast, express and local commuter services and occasional freight services allowing players to have a wide variation of operating services and rolling stock, with the opportunity to expand to other destinations across the UK. What rolling stock would there be? South Western Railway Class 450 / Class 444 Siemens Desiro EMUs Southern Railway Class 377 (AI Only from Southampton)[See Suggestion: West Coastway - Southampton to Brighton] GWR Class 166 (AI Only from Southampton)[See Suggestion: Wessex Mainline - Southampton to Bristol] CrossCountry Class 220 / 221 Voyagers What scenery would the route provide? Horses, Donkeys and Deer in heathland between Brockenhurst & Ashurst NF Brockenhurst College (seen from the railway side departing the station towards Southampton) Southampton Docks (seen on the approach to Central Station) AI Freight Movements So...do we think TSW would benefit from seeing more South Coastal routes in the future?
Several interesting eras too. SWT early days with a mix of 442s and 444s. Late 80s with 4-VEPs (as far as Bournemouth) and 33/1s taking over with 4-TCs all the way to Weymouth and through the streets of the town to the quay. An eighties one was suggested a while ago. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/bournemouth-to-weymouth-1980s.73132/
Any route including Weymouth must be set when the Quay line was still in regular use. It would be a travesty otherwise.
