Maybe DTG need to add another level to the monthly roadmaps which sits in front of 0-3 months which is 'In Testing'. This advises that the 3P has concluded the development of the route and it's under review internally and with ambassadors prior to date announcement.

Doesn't mean it can't be sent back if not to standard, but it may stop a lot of queries, or that could be another hurdle.

I find Tadami and interesting route, not on my to buy list, even if it's world changing, as it's not my bag. I look at how the game has developed since it was announced near the beginning of TSW4, and it's fair to say with the 3P input the routes are now a lot more polished with a lot more detail. I wonder if it's been like a moving goal post for them due to the duration.

I'd think most route expectations now exceed what we had when it was announced. Not sure if that's a risk for this one, I hope the dev team have been looking at the dev of other routes, or it could be another hurdle.

not sure how helpful an "in-testing" section would be, for instance MAC went through testing 3 times before it was released putting a couple of months between when first submitted and then getting out to players. Cargo Line packs have notoriously been submitted to DTG several months before seeing release, would they sit in "testing" and how long do you keep something in "testing" for before players get annoyed. Given the time difference and language barriers Tadami might have been in "testing" for several months now. The current roadmap needs an overhaul, the whole 0-3months section has become somewhat of a joke. Maybe we should have a "coming in the next 6 weeks" section and a "on the way" section for NOTHING EXPECTED LONGER THAN 6 MONTHS.

It's worth pointing out that Union Workshop's TS routes aren't known to have the best looking scenery to begin with. The TS version of the Tadami Line from 2020 wasn't great looking. Somehow they thought this was a good screenshot to advertise the route with.
The sounds of the unit, however, are worse than the scenery. Considering TSW trains tend to sound worse than their equivalents in TS anyway, I don't have a good feeling about the sounds in their new route. And, forgive me, but I've got a bad feeling about the route entirely...

To be honest, what situation are you trying to create here? This is just stirring things up, based on a 15‑year‑old game with major limitations that’s what TSC is. And we’ve actually seen very little so far, but if I’m being completely honest… what I’ve seen so far it looks very impressive, with beautiful landscapes. So just wait and see instead of spreading all kinds of doom scenarios that don’t really add much. I find this way of communicating a bit low. Thanks!

If you think TS' age is correlated with scenery density then you clearly haven't seen much of TS. Do I need to bring out the comparison screenshots of Marseille to Avignon in both games to prove my point?

I'm just pointing out that Union Workshop has a lot of prove when it comes to scenery. They're good with urban scenery, but their countryside detail has traditionally been lacking. I'd like to be proved wrong with this new route, but we'll have to wait and see.

Yes the TSC version big on scenery but driving the train was less than fulfilling. Having reignited TSC I fired it up the other evening and was less than impressed. Sounds still awful, sampled from an old tractor possibly and while in fairness few of us have ever been on a Kiha, physics didn’t seem that great. Add to the fact on a signalled route you had to keep changing the points at stations manually to proceed and without knowing whether or not a train is approaching in the opposite direction… more than a little odd.

The dogpile on UW is getting a little gross at this point IMO. They're not here to defend themselves (speculating perhaps a language barrier) and DTG certainly aren't stepping up to take the flak even though they made a premature launch date announcement; quite obviously without even giving UW or the player base the courtesy of having play tested it first.

Can you imagine putting so much work into a project, having a release date announced (even the manual is available) and then having your publisher yank it a couple hours before its debut with a "yeah, so we actually just now took a look and it's a bit bad"? That had to have been crushing.

Btw not really sure how anything from TSC is relevant to TSW as they're quite different platforms to develop for, not to mention that quite a few 3P devs have made the jump to TSW now, and i think it's fair to say there are some who shone on TSC and have struggled on TSW, and vice versa.

I know some people might call me dramatic or whatever, but today is a sad day for me
after years of waiting, patiently waiting
we were supposed to all be enjoying the tadami line, but thanks to DTG's disorganization (which I consider the norm at this point), we’ll have to wait who knows how much longer, if it is ever released at all
at this point, I’m honestly starting to think it’s going to end up becoming the japanese version of the DB BR 420

Agree it's very disappointing, but hopefully it's not quite so bad as that. Beta testers have at least had it in their hands, which is more than we can say for a lot of these long-simmering projects.

I'm going to wait and see what happens. No point getting upset over what we haven't even seen a preview of yet. Bit early to start "rating" a route based on nothing.

Speaking from experience, signalling and track is quite different. The scenery workflow is very close, if not a little easier in TSW because of the beautiful, gorgeous brush tools.

I watched an introductory video on YouTube NEW DLC TSW6 || TADAMI LINE || Introduction @Train Sim World. I'm very disappointed that we're facing a release that doesn't meet all the latest standards. There's no suspension support again; the cars are like "irons," with no rocking or swaying. The feeling of moving on rails is completely absent. I expected much more from the scenery. When I saw the first screenshots, I thought this would be the best route, with the best scenery and beautiful vegetation. Unfortunately, I wasn't thrilled. I really hope the release will be of a higher quality, but I realize I'm fooling myself.

I saw for myself that the Tadami Line doesn’t even work on a PC.
    How did I see that?
A DTG ambassador, who’d been off sick for about a week, wanted to present the Tadami Line on Wednesday or Thursday because he didn’t realise himself that it had been cancelled.

When he selected the Tadami Line route in TSW 6, I think he wanted to run a scenario, but he didn’t even get as far as the loading screen – TSW had already closed down.

So this DLC really does have some serious issues.

So this DLC project is so old that the train doesn't even have active suspension?
Okay, guys, we're at the end of the line here...

The route was started during TSW3 and was first "showcased??" As a part complete project during TSW4. It's probable that the very small dev team have full time jobs, and this has evolved over time as more of a hobby project rather than commercial enterprise like JT.

That doesn't however mean we should get a TSW4 standard release during TSW6/7. Times have moved on, and even DLC from groups like Rivet have been considerably more polished in recent times.

and it actually makes sense, since the project began around the time TSW4 was newly released (I did some digging, and the first mention of a japanese route by union workshop was in the october 2023 roadmap)
the improved suspension was released after the project had already started; however, I had always assumed they had at least implemented the suspension to meet the "new standards" but it turns out I was wrong :|

I don't really think there's a "TSW 7 standard." There's individual expectations, but "quality" has always been all over the place depending on the developer. That goes back to TSC itself where routes vary WIDELY in their quality and scope.
I say let them release what they want. If you don't like it...don't buy it.
The only true "standard" should be whether it literally works or not, not which cool features you want to see.
Hell, I don't even know if the Tadami line had automated announcements in real life in 2011.
Sales will be the final judge in the end.

    The reasoning is perfectly logical.
TSW no longer has a standard.
Everyone does what they want, until they find themselves selling a product that's already largely obsolete.
    Keep your eyes peeled, users...

It's not "one product." They're just essentially selling other peoples' products at this point. As long as the core is updated to enable those features, it's still up to the designers to use those features or not. Then it's up to customers to decide to buy or not.

Yeah, I've watched the video. It straight up looks like a TSW2 route. The buildings are low-poly, the textures look flat, it almost looks like TSC scenery at times. Mind, the video had motion blur on and that certainly makes the textures look worse. Combine that with the usual stark lighting and most of the buildings now look like large white boxes with opaque dark squares dotted around. Very unsightly.

Even the very first building the player walks through (the Aizu-Miyashita station) has fully opaque windows. You know, like the very distant scenery does so that there's no need to model the interior. One can only imagine what the stations that don't feature in the Route Introduction look like.

On the plus side, there's a lot of vegetation. Think Niddertalbahn. And the track is not continuously welded, so there is that "kadunk-kadunk" that everyone loves to hear. Bu-u-ut there is no train suspension, so no cab movement when going over gaps in the track.

The FPS looked to be about 25-30 with frequent micro-stutters. The LOD pop-in on the vegetation was atrocious. The shadows would properly render only about 20 metres in front of the camera. The water is indeed just a small repeating texture. And most disappointingly, the tracks do not have improved shadows, which is a feature that was implemented with TSW5 and promised to be included with "all future Add-ons" almost 2 years ago.

Maybe at this point release it for a fiver and a firm caveat emptor. Or just scrap if it doesn’t cut muster and would take the devs another three or four years to fix, by which time things will have moved on again.

It's unclear who would benefit from such an addition.
The buyer would be frustrated, and for the seller (DTG/UW), it would ultimately be counterproductive.
It's a shame, for those like me, who believed in this franchise.

Like I said, never really had high hopes based on their TSC work. Some was just about passable and the Tokyo route was good but none of it outstanding. And the whole situation once again calls into question the whole issue of DTG oversight of these 3P projects, particularly once they’ve gone ahead and announced them. Obviously never learned a thing from the Peak Forest Class 104 debacle.

I have no interest in buying this route but you must have watched a different video to me. It looks beautiful.

I saw the video yesterday and have since watched Train Sim Society's video that includes the footage. Some of the comments above just don't tie in with what TSS said and what I saw.

I agree that Their TSC work wasn't great. It's the only thing I ever refunded for TSC, but until we see the final version give them a chance.

I'm happy for those who like it.
Apparently, Train Sim Society (on YouTube) also likes it.
Who would have ever bet otherwise (now)?

This doesn't look terrible to me like those who are saying it's "like bad TSC quality."
It's not really my style, but it doesn't look "bad."
Not sure what video people are pointing to.
Did they look at a video OF the TSC route by mistake?

Posted my thoughts on the clip in the screenshot thread, not going to cross post here a consequence of too many threads on the same topic - so much for DTG’s streamlined forum structure! Anyhoo, comments are over there if anyone wants to read them but, tl:dr I don’t think this looks like a £30 purchase candidate.

and that there is the funniest question about the route now the release has been postponed because we all know that the route will still have lots of bugs and issues despite being pulled to fix things

Very disappointed to see that this DLC has been delayed so last-minute after waiting at least 18 months plus to give it a go. I just hope DTG don't try to launch TSW 7 until all the TSW 6 lines have been launched.

That won't happen. The launch of TSW7 is where the big money is for DTG, all those people eager to hand over £65 or £70 for the DLC pack.
