Well there’s a bit of a dearth of UK Class types now, until we get to Page 170!

Wheels on the Class 66 and the Legends of Diesel locos on GWR resemble Catherine wheels.. wheels on carriages etc normal.. look like wheels. Not bothered to check if this is happening with other trains but I’ll check. Reported before but not addressed.

We still got class 165s, 166s and 168s so we're not in a dearth of UK class types.

Given that Claude is one of the reasons that hardware prices are through the roof that’s the least he could do to make amends!

Rumour at HQ has it that if this makes 5 years there’ll be a party to celebrate. Every attendee gets a ‘The Class 90 is fixed’ badge too… if it is. (This post is entirely satirical, not to be taken literally and so no feelings can be hurt).

Most of the changes in the popular one are in the pak file, but you can just upload the ini file and the godmode.sav to Claude (I used Sonnet 4.6 - but Sonnet 5 is available now), throw it a link to the mod webpage so it can read the docs and tell it your system specs and tell it to improve and enhance the existing data to tune it to your system. Simple as that. I took the beast mode file and used that as a baseline. If you have a trash system though, you're probably not going to get any results. I found that his settings on beast weren't aggressive enough and running it through an agent analysis solved all remaining problems I had. Moreover, I finally eliminated all stuttering by not using any 3rd party mods and just doing it on my own. The Dynamic Hud Mod was the biggest culprit, because I believe he's recompiled his own UE4SS.dll and shipped it to make his mod work. It introduced all sorts of issues for me, not least of all that he installs his UE4SS.dll in the base win64 folder (when it should maintain the UE4SS folder structure of win64/ue4ss/mods. So if you've got another mod that requires you to install UE4SS you might actually have two versions running, his and the stock UE4SS install. Either way, he's using the UE4.26 script hook which was introducing stuttering. Removing his mod and ensuring my mods did not make any script calls on that hook removed all microstutters. Be careful with mods, because half of the time the "modders" are flying by the seat of their pants without real understanding of the changes they're making.

But if those "modders" had not produced their "mods" in the first place, you wouldn't have had anything to give to Claude and burn 8.1 jiggawatts and an entire reservoir in the process to eliminate your stutter in the first place would you?

A touch ironic really to say modders don’t know what they’re doing while using an LLM to do everything because they clearly don’t know what they’re doing.

As we no longer have the thread in Off Topic to talk about other games, thought I would give a quick shout out in here...

Simrail gets its next route DLC/extension next Thursday, the Lodz North Region. According to the description this includes some extensive single track running (and despatching!) and sounds like it will be a tad more scenic than the existing routes. Still electric though, no diesel locos or DMU's (yet).

SimRail - The Railway Simulator: Łódź North Region on Steam

Price not listed yet but reasonable to assume in the same range as previous i.e. £10.99. Even if it's a little more, still great value for another 140km of route on the network. Day One purchase for me, particularly now the single player save game is working moderately well.

Each has their appeal, as do TSC and Run 8.

But I've just come off a 40 minute session continuing a passenger scenario from Katowice to Warsaw, with an EU07 loco hauled train. The experience was super smooth, no judders or pauses and the sounds of the traction - wondrous to listen to, smooth as silk and no squelching. When you engage the shunt regulator to push a bit more power you hear and can almost feel the extra intensity of the traction.

Now due to using a slower train than the suggested one and a number of little surprises the scenario throws at you, I'm not going to get much if any XP for it. But then I can choose to run it again at a different time of day and something a bit faster. And all that is in singleplayer, without delving into the MP side of things.

Got to hand it to the SimRail guys. A slight increase in their route DLC price to £11.75 for the Lodz Northern extension but tempered by a 10% discount if you buy before 27th August. DTG used to do that with their DLC, at least they had a pre-release discount to sweeten the deal but that seems to have fallen by the wayside.

Loving it so far. Doing the railtour scenario which is about 175km as it takes in part of the existing routes too. Save game holding up as well. The scenery is still quite flat but the pace is gentler on the single line sections but with a few gradient changes to keep you on your toes and plenty of level crossing warning points to sound the horn for (if you spot them!).

I may look at multiplayer in a few days but they have put in plenty of SP scenarios with this pack which of course you can swap in different traction or different time of day should you want to repeat.

Are there still downsides with playing on singleplayer? From what I got, it was quite barebone in the past.

Are the blurry textures on console, close up to the train, already fixed?

Don’t play on a console so can’t answer that one.

The single player game is much improved and the save game, for the most part, now behaves itself. Perhaps in recognition that MP is not quite so popular, they have loaded the new route extension with at least 10 if not more scenarios. And as mentioned, there are infinite permutations with different consists, time of day, season and weather conditions to pick from.

Sounds like it has quite improved. The DLC's are not (yet) available on console, but hope they will release later on.

Simrail is on sale now for EUR 25,00 on Xbox, so that's cheaper then a TSW route and TSW is not going anywhere right now. So I guess a good moment to try out Simrail.

Thanks for sharing your opinions on Simrail!

The one thing TSW has over SimRail is an extensive single player timetable. Repeating scenarios at different times of day doesn't really give you the "living world" when you're seeing the same trains in the opposite direction whatever time you decide to choose.

Not it is much different in TSW. There are some notable exceptions, but it is no secret that many services in most routes are just copy/pasted.

One thing about scenarios in SimRail. Every time you open/restart the scenerio, the Ai consist will have different variable. For example when you are in station and waiting for the train to pass you, it can be EN57 or 2x EN57 or even ET22. Many possibilities ;)

Funnily enough I was about to post the same thing earlier. When you see the boasts about how many driveable services a route has, most of these are copy and paste. Plus the huge issue with TSW which lets things down - you cannot stay on the route and keep driving because as soon as you save then load on a subsequent train to your first run, all your objective and timetable data vanishes.

Simrail is still garbage on Xbox blurry textures and short LOD so lots of popping.

And no one ever it seems on the multiplayer servers for Xbox.

Hasn't been 1 update since January this year.

And no DLC for it yet it still just the base game.

Garbage like TSW on XBox then... :) (minus the absent DLC).

But right now, if I had to make a Desert Island Discs choice about which game I took with me, it would be SimRail not TSW.

Totally different case on Xbox, TSW runs way better than Simrail, the blurryness is way worse on SR and reminds me of playing TSW on 8th gen console.

Where you don't even see any overhead lines past 2 poles ahead. It looks way more barren and objects not as detailed as TSW.

Plus since we haven't seen any updates since the 1st week of release it seems to be abandonware on console.

Apaarently its ported over by Play Way for console. And their reputation is terrible with release and forget.

They also do the porting to console for UBoat. And again been a long time since an update and the Distant Waters DLC is still npt available, just the base game.

And the last update broke the game lots of CTD's now.

I don't want to say too much about Simrail as the moderators might not be happy but its a very good price for what you get and now with the single player save working better and lots of scenarios to download from the workshop there is a lot of playability.
Oh how I miss the Off Topic bit of the forum.

If you haven't already got it Jason, the North Region is really good. Continuing on the Railtour (Train 11140) after doing the loop line around Lodz and back towards Zgierz, picked up the eastern single line route and very twisty/turny. Great fun. Takes about 3 hours in total. Looking forward to doing it with the steam loco.

The truth is that I have never seen action taken against anyone for saying SimRail is worth buying, or that it is a good game.

IMHO, both train simulators are different enough that any serious rail fan will want to have them both.

Well I have finally taken the plunge, it was either the New DB route for TSW (£29.99) or Clear a load of rarely used TSW stuff off the Hard Drive and give Simrail a go for £17.00 odd. The new challenge won over. Its only Preston to Crewe that keeps TSW going for me and a new challenge is required.

I was thinking more about being off topic than actually talking about Simrail, more of a dig about not having the off topic section.
Yeah agree they are both different and expect most of us have both.

Yeah I have it Vern just not got round to doing much yet, will deffo look at that railtour.

I've been back and forth on actually trying out SimRail for a long time now. It's been on and off my Steam wishlist many times, but I think the time has come to finally give it a go. I've been hesitant due to the pretty bad in-game tutorials that I've seen in videos and other things I've seen (to be fair, most of the tutorials in TSW aren't great either). The lack of timetable running also kind of turned me away. I don't exactly know what "scenarios" are in the SimRail context.

There was also a lot of hubbub when they first started releasing DLCs as I recall. At that time I believe it was still in early access and people were not impressed with that decision. I'm unsure on the general opinion of the game's developers at this point, or their trustworthiness.

I'm watching some more recent videos now and I can't believe how detailed and functional all the buttons and screens seem to be. Plus the radio works. This is exactly what I want out of a train simulator. I feel intimidated and a little afraid--it's a whole new train sim [world] to step into, a bunch of new keybinds to learn I'm sure, but I really want to try it out. The reasonable price on the DLCs is a big draw as well.

One thing I noticed is that a lot of people playing on YouTube are using their cursors to control the throttle and brake levers (as in, looking around the cab and clicking on them manually). I assume (or at least I hope) that there are keybinds for that. No idea how people play that way because it would drive me crazy. Perhaps they are playing on console or with a controller on PC, I'm not sure. I play TSW with a controller on PC and I still don't play that way. Guess I'll just have to find out myself.

Worst case I can just get it refunded (thanks Steam!), but I'm hoping not to.
    -----------------------------
    EDIT:

I bought it. Loving it so far. Tried it for a bit with keyboard and mouse but the whole thing where you have to hold right click to look around was really annoying so I switched to controller and I find it works quite well. I also prefer the stylized cursor when using the controller as opposed to just having my regular mouse on the screen all the time.

Did the first tutorial I saw with a modern train because I figured it'd be easier to wrap my head around. Had to restart it a couple of times because I kept blowing past the first stop trying to get a feel for the braking and acceleration, haha. But I just finished the run and wow, it's great. A few stutters here and there but nothing like the constant micro-stutters and big frame hangs in TSW. Might be down to running the game for the first time. Not sure how the game handles its shaders.

Gonna slap Lossless Scaling on it for my next session and see if I can crank the settings some more (mostly defaulted to medium on my rig--specs added to my sig, game is running on an m.2 nvme drive), but it already looks darn good too. I'm going to have a lot of fun with this. Thanks to all who showed enthusiasm for SimRail and pushed me off the fence (including people in the Off Topic SimRail thread I used to follow closely). Cheers.

ISTR the EU07 and EP08 locos were derived from the UK Class 83 design.

Never really cared much for the tutorials in SimRail, but luckily their wiki has most of the information you need to get going e.g. how to operate the different types of loco's, signalling guide, etc... If you end up liking polish railways then I recommend checking out the older and still evolving Train Driver 2 (multiplayer) and Maszyna. Both are available on Steam nowadays, however, beware of outdated graphics and a high learning curve.

Yesterday I was planning to buy Simrail for Xbox, but before buying, I checked some youtube vids and the forums. And luckily I did, it's terrible on console, TSW with blurry textures, looks better then the dafault state of Simrail on Series S. As mentioned by you, no updates after January anymore, it really looks like they've abandoned the console port.

People say different things about SR the last add-ons loco on SR is one of the bad loco i'm ever seen, and please nobody say something on the traxx MS2,the train Physics looks better on Open rail than on Sim rail : there is a problem about Sim rail : quality of train physics,Sim rail looks pretty bruh And I'll refrain from mentioning the random landscapes on the map; it's still rather shameful. And there is still + point on TSW for example mods there aren’t mod on Sim rail

From what I've seen, the PC version of Simrail is way better then the Xbox version. With the negatives mentioned by you about the PC versions, that says something about how bad Simrail is on Xbox. The Simrail devs also can learn from DTG about communicating, bug fixing and quality control, I think, that's saying enough.

Yes did a tutorial run with the EU07 great fun.

So far have managed to run it maxed out also on ultra settings. Looks good. Could be getting more DLC at this rate...

Just did my first ETCS run in the Pendo tutorial and I just want to say again, I'm loving this. Not gonna gush any more after this post, but man, so cool. I'm a big nerd who is also largely ignorant of trains in general, so it really tickles me to have all this proper functionality to play around with and learn about.

Definitely grabbing some of those DLCs ASAP. Looking forward to trying a bit of multiplayer once I am more confident.
