DTG, where are all the updates you’ve received?

I’ve read in a few threads that the developers have already sent a great many updates to DTG; in some cases, DTG received them not just 1 or 2 weeks ago, but much longer ago.
So, to be honest, I’m wondering whether we’ll still get a few updates for the various DLCs we’ve all already bought during the TSW 6 period.
Because I can’t remember where, or exactly what, I read there.
But as far as I know, it was something along the lines of: after the last DLC we received, no further DLCs will be released for TSW 6. And I’m not entirely sure whether that was also stated in relation to updates.
If that is the case, though, I’d consider it a very poor move on DTG’s part.

What do the rest of you think about this, and which updates do you know DTG have had for a long time?

I know that an update for the BR 145 Expert has been sitting with DTG for quite some time now. And I reckon the same goes for a few other routes as well.

All updates have to go through qa, get tested and if it fails, developers have to fix it before sending it through the process again. Then releasing fixes requires there to be an open time to release. They can't just release a fix whenever time they want

Yes, but DTG isn’t tied to any public release schedules set by Steam, Sony or Microsoft regarding when they can release their updates.
If DTG wanted to, they could release updates every Thursday.
This is because the timeframe DTG requires to release updates is purely an internal matter for DTG.

The update timetable may be flexible for Steam, but for the other two platforms, not so.

Others games don't have a problem dropping patches whenever they feel the need despite being on PC, Playstation and Xbox. https://warthunder.com/en/game/changelog/

I do however understand that everything is very difficult for DTG.

Several third parties have mentioned before that updates have been with DTG for a long time and they are just as confused as players as to why DTG haven't released them.

I think it was the class 20 Nuclear flask pack that updates were given to DTG in November and not released for several months.

Basically DTG need to put their house in order as regards processing fixes and updates from 3P’s. They are forcing developers to release through themselves and taking a substantial cut (rumoured to be 30%), of the take. In return, they should actually be getting off their corporate backsides and getting the patches out.

In your post, you say that other developers also manage to release updates for all platforms, sometimes even on a daily basis.
Then you write that you understand it’s more difficult for DTG.

Why should it be more difficult for DTG?
If DTG were to look after the buyers of TSW and the DLCs, they could, let’s say, release updates every week.
In fact, even some of the DLC developers don’t understand why their submitted updates are held up by DTG for so long.
And that says quite a lot about DTG.
Perhaps DTG should invest in people to test such updates and then release them as quickly as possible, rather than having 20 community managers.
TSW or DTG can only survive because there are still enough customers who buy TSW or the DLCs. So one can also expect DTG to treat its customers properly and make the updates and improvements available to them as quickly as possible.

This ‘time window’ that DTG has invented for itself, dictating when it can release updates, is simply something DTG has made up.

There's been updates for certain items in TSC that just got caught up and never released. The DD35 in its current state doesn't have working wipers on Steam, notably DTM did make a patch for that, and he gives it out to anyone that asks, so I can confirm he did the work. Evidentially it's just somewhere in DTG's que that the update got stuck, and to this day I don't think the DD35 has gotten fixed on Steam the official way.

People are so insistent it's on the platform's end, but DTG's own actions really make me doubt that. They have shown they'll just never do stuff from time to time, even when the devs actually go out of their way to do patches. Undeniably a big part of it is DTG's own incompetence (at best) internally, TSC shows that.

This was written on July 28th “42. The voice output “Zugbeeinflussing” PZB gets stuck in an infinite loop in some borderline cases.
Status: Sent to DTG .” I have been waiting for this fix for a long time, without it I find it very difficult to shift over 2000Hz magnets.

They have five community managers. Alex, Jan, Harry, Jamie and Candace. How many of them do you want DTG to get rid of, and which ones? Careful now! How many devs and testers could they get from doing that?

Same with the Searchlight AC4400. A bug means that the version from Steam is unplayable as you can’t insert the reverser handle. You have do download the patch from Searchlight’s own web site to fix it. And don’t get me started on the sorry saga of the LNWR G2 Super D. Several brick walls got severely dented trying to sort that one, all to no avail. As noted in a previous post, maybe time they reduce the number of marketing staff and employ some people on the coal face to actually fix and test things, both TSW and TSC.

Not forgetting JD and that other guy from the same agency Candace works for (though hasn’t been seen for a while). Well it’s a tough old world out there and the simple fact is DTG appear to have shed most of their in house technical and development staff or at least not employing them on fixing up and testing stuff. There needs to be a balance and with respect to the CM’s they are rarely seen on the forum these days, so what do they actually do all day? I pinged one of them from my G2 thread in TSC as efforts to resolve the situation with Support and Steam were going nowhere. Not a whisper…

From the devs who spoke about this before, the time between delivering the patch to dovetail and dovetail actually releasing it to players is around 4 months in TSW6. And even after that time of "testing", we are still getting wrong builds and other broken patches through the official channels.

Some devs like CRG resorted to just packing up the patches as mods so that at least PC players can have a working product they paid for. And surprise, it works. From dev to players within an hour. In case there are some unintended changes or issues, it can be simply updated again and boom, from dev to players within an hour once more.

TSC I think was similar, at least when patches did get release, heck, in a few cases like with Smokebox engines I think you'd get them much quicker. I know when his engines had broken injectors he put out a patch you could add manually ASAP, and I think it only was a week or two for DTG to get it out via Steam, long, but at least in the realm of it being reasonable. The fact TSW takes so long is crazy given the they really should have a lighter workload, there's only a handful of third party developers. Plus DTG frankly are pretty content to let a lot of their own routes sit as is if they don't have controversy around them.

At a certain point it's hard not to think the main issue has to be that DTG internally are a mess, and that's what causes most of the hold up. Like seriously, I've never heard of so many cases of the "wrong patch" being sent out by one company so regularly.

They put all their stat points into flimflammery.

It was more an observation that no matter what it is, DTG are at pains to let you know how difficult it is.

Let’s not ask for people to be fired. We’re going to risk losing the General Discussion section again. ;)

Nobody has suggested in any of their posts that staff should be made redundant.
And I find it hard to believe that by raising the issue of updates, we’re increasing the risk of DTG deleting the General section of the forum.
I honestly don’t know what certain people are thinking when they write, or whether they ever ask themselves whether this post actually makes sense.

Indeed. Asking why they have so many PR staff (rarely seen) versus production staff, is not suggesting redundancies should be made just wondering why the focus is on marketing rather than getting the fixes out.

No, but a poorly argued suggestion was put forward that DTG have "too many" staff in certain roles and falsely conflated that exaggerated figure with them not having enough QA staff as if it's some kind of zero sum HR game, so it was implied, hence the people debunking that strawman.

Putting something in someone's mouth what they never said, to argue against what they never said is the definition of a strawman, tho. :)

I believe most are out now with the recent set of patches that have gone out - we've specifically focused on catching up with 3PP patches, but i'll check to see what's left.

I think the strawman started here with the notion there are 20 community managers. There are five, one of whom is part time.
Careful now. Enough people have misinterpreted my post already. However, if the next round is impersonate a train, Jamie is safe.

Could we have a list of the ones not out yet, then we know if anything has fallen through the cracks - like the restoration of the Birmingham to Crewe Class 86 and 87 railtours? It would be very reassuring.

While I hunt that down - maybe if you can all give me the lists of what you're *expecting* I can try and marry the two up and then on the misses, find out what's up :)

Also if you can try to be specific - "145 patch" doesnt tell me enough - just asked Lukas about the comment from above and he says he's not sure what that's referring to as all the current pending issues went out in an update recently - so what bug/issue are you expecting an update for.

Well, definitionally it is simply creating the illusion of having successfully challenged something via presenting something which is not the position actually presented. There's no need to specifically present a misinterpretation of what an individual said. The bit about "putting words in someone's mouth" is just a related colloquialism referencing its frequent use in debate or similar settings.

It can still be still validly defined as a strawman if that act is not involved and all you do is present a proposition of false equivalence to what the real topic is, and present your argument which defeats the thing you set up, rather than the actual matter at hand.

But that's all nitpicking. Fundamentally people made a false equivalence and implied a solution to the scenario as they presented it, other people pointed out how the logic of their argument was flawed due to the misrepresentation. Wasn't the first time it will happen around the subject of DTG and quality control and it won't be the last.

For me, definitely the restoration of the 86 and 87 hauled Railtours on Birmingham to Crewe.

Also, the 150261 glitch on Riviera line.

I'm interested in this fix for this annoying bug in DLC 145 expert:
PZB "Zugbeeinflussing" voice output gets stuck in an endless loop in some edge cases.
    Status: Submitted to DTG.

This error makes it unpleasant to pass the 2000 Hz PZB.

    About the BR 145 Expert!

    cwf.green,wrote the following.

NOTE: There was a patch to the BR 145 Expert DLC that released on August 6th. That patch includes the fix to bug 44, but it does not include the fixes to bugs 42 and 43 as these were submitted to DTG after the cut-off date.
namely here: Br 145 Expert: Troubleshooting Steps And Bug Fixing Status | Dovetail Games Forums

So, after 6 August, TSG submitted another update to DTG, but we haven’t received it yet.

A patch for the issues on Thames Valley Branches, Johannes mentioned already he fixed them, but I don't know if he has already send it to DTG. Then there where patches promised for TSG routes, Niddertalbahn and Mittenwaldbahn, but those where hold back for some reason. Besides those, it's pretty quiet about the fixes for the blurry textures, which in my opinion is the biggest issue at the moment. Also the popping sounds on (multiple trains, especially but not limited to the Diesels) and the Z-fighting really needs a fix (the Vectron is pretty bad with Z-fighting). I'm playing on Xbox Series.

Even the major update to the German routes – which was originally planned but postponed – and perhaps the associated optimisation of textures for the German add-ons due to blurring on consoles, has somehow been put on hold and is hardly ever mentioned anymore.

Has this major update for the German routes actually ever been released?

So DTG have 170 employees, 5 community managers is not an extreme amount.

I supect 50 to 60 of them are probably upper mangement/mangement which still leaves the majority still working on the actual products.

Oooh, a community made list would be good wouldn't it? Unfortunately that would need at least 6 community managers to implement.

    Have you found it yet?
