I have a number of suggestions for adding to GWE as nostalgic options. Currently available classes that previously used the line and just need patching in are, classes 08/09, 31, 37, 45, 47, 52 and 101. Other ideas not yet in exsistence are classes 14, 22, 35, 41, 42, 50, 53, 56, 57, 59, 60, 117/121, 123, 128, 210 (both 3 and 4 car) and 251/261 Blue Pullman. Maybe even APT-E. Really out there, but even class 87 has turned up at Paddington.
Doesn't necessarily require a back track of the map as old trains running on the modern (near current) line would be great for nostalgia buffs like me.
My own artwork of a GWR liveried Class 22 Baby Warship. I have works in progress of many other Western Region artworks in 'what if' liveries.
Actually there were 3 types 41, 42 and 43. They reused the 43 class number for the HSTs The class 33 would also have been seen, particularly around Reading with trains coming up from the southern. I'd love, and be be prepared to buy, a older version of the Great Western featuring all those locomotives you mentioned. Late 60s early 70s, great variety. I like your drawings.
Much agreed, older GWE line would be awesome as there was so much variety on it back then and in the 80's too. As for the drawings, i have done various different ones and plan to do more when time permits. I particularly think that the current GWR livery would have suited many classes of motive power as it has elements of both modern and vintage.
I found out whilst at the final Old Oak Common open day, that there is a group that plans to build a replica 22 Baby Warship. Perhaps one day, if they complete this, they might go on to build a replica D600/Class 41 Warship which is effectively a double up of the 22.
I'm looking forward to a Green Pulman. There is a group that's recreating a class 23 "Baby Deltic" using an original engine in a modified chassis of a class 37. It appears to be progressing quite well. The 22/41 might be more tricky since I doubt any engines remain. And then there's the hydraulic transmission to consider. But with some engineering skill anything seems possible.
Apparently, they do have a NBL/MAN engine and various other parts. The transmissions are possibly still knocking around Germany or Italy. Green Pullman? Only aware of Blue Pullman.
Found evidence of classes 25 and 33 at Paddington. Furthermore, Grand Union Trains are proposing use of IC225 sets (Class 91 + mk4 + DVT) on Paddington to South Wales route in near future.
Only time will tell. Would be nice to see these machines given a brief reprieve from the cutters torch.
