North Transpennine Remaster.

Was very surprised to see this announced. With the 37/0 and improvements to the current rolling stock. This will be a day one purchase for me.

I just hope we see passengers return lol.

 

And the Pacer surely has to be added into it for the Manchester Leeds stopping services although with simplified controls driving some of the other BR locos in the 80s routes will be soooo much easier

 

This one was an absolute belta of an announcement... NTP was always a strong route, but had sadly becoming very dated. Having it upto modern standards, with modern features on the route and rolling stock? What more could a claggy BR enthusiast ask for.

I hope that the rolling stock has been completely retextured in the cab amongst improvements. Also a accompanying 37/0... Lovely jubbly. I will be keeping a very close eye on this one.

Personally I'm ok with that. I think there are older routes needing it more. I expect Brighton will get a remaster one day.

 

I hope that Just Trains give permission for their stock to be used on the route.

Not sure how licensing works between third parties but seeing their MGR wagons or Mark 2 carriages and their 108 DMU on the route would have me drooling like Homer Simpson when he sees a doughnut lol

 

Is this the first time a third party has done a remaster of an existing DTG route? Looking forward to it, deffo wonder what the price point will be though for those who already have the original.

 

IIRC the Koln Aachen remaster was by a third party.

 

I’m delighted to hear this is going to be remastered. I just really really hope the class 37 is up to JT standard. Improved exhaust dynamics and please do whatever is required to get hold of that AP soundpack.

 

Don't get me wrong, I'd love a BML remaster more then anyone... But without derailing this thread about the NTP remaster, A) The South has had its fair share of remasters so it's time to give somewhere else in the UK a fair crack of the whip. B) Believe me, BML in TSWs current state would be an absolute nightmare in many more ways then one.

Transpennine can have the full fat stuff thrown at it and perform well... And it's been one of the most anticipated remasters us BR fans have been craving like nicotine!

 

Tbh this was the only part of the whole TSW 7 announcement that has gotten me excited. Let's hope it actually comes out in the TSW 7 cycle. I seem to remember GWE remaster getting announced for 5 and only releasing in 6.

 

Pleased about this, but hopefully they can improve the signalling.

 

Technically GWE could be counted because (I think) Liam had moved to his 'Grump Dog Games' brand by the time if was done.

It's the first out-and-out one, to my knowledge at least.

 

I think ECW Remaster was Rivet Games.

Layering isn't subject to licensing if it's not included with the route. The other third party would be happy as it gives another reason to buy their content!

As well as what's been mentioned, hopefully we'll see the 20 and 31 here as well, plus the 08 and 47 variants, Mk1 coaches, some steam railtours. Would be nice to see the three big stations busy.

We will have more information on the 37 in due course - in terms of the remaster, we have given it the love it deserves with more to come, many many places across the route will look unrecognisable compared to its current state.

 

Well, I hope the scenery will improve and also hope that the most recognisable landmark in West Yorkshire is included in the distance on the route as you can see it from a lot of places along the track between Marsden and Leeds.
I am of course talking about the grade II listed Arqiva Tower aka Emley Moor TV transmission tower.

 

Would be nice to see a modem day up to date route now that modern Leeds coming maybe set route pre ohle only downside with a moden route we don't have a 185

 

Wondering if this will be similar to the ECW remaster in the way of the remaster being a free update but the 37/0 and a timetable is a paid add on?

Really excited for this. One thing I'm not quite sure about - is the remaster a separate add-on? I don't remember them saying that it'd be free for existing owners.

the class 37 is definitely separate. I got that much.

 

This was probably the best announcement for me, of the evening, on what was a good evening.

I do hope it will still be set in a 1983 as this will be the only realistic route to run the class 40 on, although a 1986 timetable on top would be great.

I hope the 40 and 45 will get suspension and maybe some other improvements.

I will be interested to see what other loco's layer in, hopefully the 3 car class 101. The unrefurbished class 37 will be very welcome.

On the two or three times I have played this route in the last year I have noticed intercity and large logo blue class 47's appearing (obvioulsy Shap ones). I hope this is addressed.

In 1983 the vast majority of locos were still in rail blue save for the class 58's in railfreight grey and the odd railfreight grey or large logo blue liveried loco's starting to appear, most of the latter were class 50's.

 

Usually with Remasters, the remaster itself is a free update but a new timetable is what we pay for. I assume it's going to be the same.. however as it's a third party I'm not sure.

Me personally I'm happy to pay for it.


Edit: I meant a new loco/unit with the timetable is what we pay for.

 

Really looking forward to this one, NTP is one of my favourite routes being a Yorkshire lad but it was arguably the most dated in the game at this point. Glad it’s getting the love it deserves!

 

I'd be happy to see the 142 added as well. Granted I know that would push the year upwards but not too much to make it

 

Multiple timetables seem to be quite acceptable now, so I personally would prefer they went down that route, although I realise that is doubling the work. 1983 was just before the days of corporate blue being pretty much everywhere ended, by 1986 second generation DMU's in their new liveries were becoming common and sectorisation saw a mishmash of new and old liveries, something admirably demonstrated in the lovely JT content.

I am a bit of an curmudgeon when it comes to realism on 1980's routes and I realise that many don't share my probably obsessive approach to realism.

Me too, infact I hope there is a charge for it as I know it will be in my top three played routes.

 

If we get a top tier class 37 then honestly take my money, I don’t care how much it costs lol.

mainly would take Tess valley getting support for layers like JT’s class 20, the Cornwall class 37 and well this new 37

 

Liam AKA Grumpdog did the GWE remaster with a new timetable and it was completely free and done in his own spare time.
You may be right though about it being a paid for new timetable with the 37/0 being a loco that's coming alongside the remaster.
That's how it was with the ECW remaster and of course the GWR 387 coming as an extra unit for GWE (alongside the already released farewell HST pack).

TVL is crying out to be brought up to todays route standards. Like NTP there are a lot of areas with sparse scenery and of course only things really close to the track are visible and you can see the end of the world where buildings etc aren't there and just plain ground textures instead.

Fantastic news, and a decent 37 is sorely needed. Hopefully provides the impetus for a class 25 down the line.

 

Looking forward to this remaster. But I think it's about time they done a US route remaster.

The 37 is a welcome addition. However as a regular visitor to Manchester Victoria in the early 80s, I don't remember 37s being very common. I remember them double heading a stone train once or twice a day. The most glaring omission in terms of locomotives is the class 25! There was almost always one on station pilot duties, ready to bank goods trains up to Miles Platting. Along with the class 40s they were the definitive traction in the Manchester area.

 

I took this in 1982. This was a daily working I think. That's the only 37s I remember at Victoria.

 

Really hoping the 37/0 will be both split and centre headcode versions but have a feeling it’ll just be a modified existing centre headcode model.

 

For me the biggest let down with this route has always been the scenery
Preferably we need to remodel Leeds because it is very poor by modern tsw standards
This was the first add on I bought so I'm looking forward to it getting some love again

 

Excellent news and a BR Blue Class 37 is well overdue, though at some point it would still be nice to get a Class 25!

Couple things,
The 37 ran frieght services across the route from our research, and also did shunting moves at victoria.
2. I think you will be surprised on which variant it is, wait for the roadmap later today.

 

Hopefully with this route and all the 1986 routes, and all the hints on this forum that a class 25 would be desired, someone will decide it is a no brainer to make one. I think especially now this route is being remastered.

It sounds like it is almost going to be a new route, it will certainly feel like one, I can't bare to load the current one up anymore, even though it is the best route for BR diesel hauled services.

A remastered class 31 with suspension and a 31/4 variant would be great too.

The route has needed a signalling fix since release. I made a couple of very busy scenarios (following a slow train ahead in both directions) when scenario designer first came out and the signalling was not good enough to handle it. Incorrect aspects and at least two signals without a distant protecting it (the one at the tunnel and another in the other direction). These scenarios are lost to an old version of TSW so I can’t load them up to say exactly which signals I found problems with. There were also some pathing issues introduced at Huddersfield when it was brought over to TSW2 which borked a few timetable services and I don’t think that was fully resolved.

I’m just wondering whether this has had the full works including fixing the signalling issues or if it is just cosmetic scenery stuff and a new timetable.

Obviously nobody can really point to this as an indicator that it won’t be good but it is an unknown new developer and this is a beloved old route so I am not rejoicing yet that it’s getting a remaster. I have the Koln-Aachen remaster there in my head and that ruined that route on PS5 for me, almost unplayable now. Also, and I must say this may not be connected, the last I heard about the locos from this route (45 and 40) was that they had been handed over to Athena for ‘improvements’ and that should strike fear into anyone if they have had anything to do with this.

As always, I am open to having all my fears dispelled, and sincerely hope that they are.

 

The ideal scenario would be for the class 31, 40 and 45 to be remastered, but I appreciate this is a lot of work. I think opening up the livery editor would be a start. Also the exhaust dynamics of the class 31 are so poor, I simply cannot drive the thing.

 

I do remember there being an issue with a signal at Diggle where there was a red signal just before the tunnel entrance heading towards Huddersfield.
That one caught a lot of people out back in the day.

 

I doubt DTG would be daft enough to only allow Athena to modify the 40 and 45 just because they handed them over for the 'improvements'.

Although saying that, I'm not 100% sure the 40 will receive any improvements since that was part of a separate DLC. Would be happy if wrong though, maybe PP will rectify the 40 DLC alongside the remaster like Liam did with the DLoGW pack (albiet that was only making it compatible with TOD4 and giving it suspension).
