Hello community, I am currently building the route from Freiburg (Brsg) Hbf to Elzach. In the following posts I will share the progress of this route. Today I am going to introduce you into the Elztalbahn. The route is located in the south west of Germany in Baden Württemberg. Freiburg, the start of this rout is the biggest city in this region. The mainstation is part of the Rheintalbahn (Mannheim-Basel (CH)-Konstanz). It is one of the bussiest railways of europe featuring express, commuter, local and fright trains. There also starts the famous Höllentalbahn, the steepest mainline of Germany and the Breisacher Bahn to the border of France. The Elztalbahn is part of the Breisgau S-Bahn network and operated by the SWEG with Br 8442 (Talent 3) EMU´s. The S2 starts in Freiburg following the Rheintalbahn northwards. In Denzlingen, the actuel Elztalbahn branches off towards the Schwarzwald. The route now enters the Elztal. Between the mountains the railway follows the river Elz to Waldkirch. Trough residental areas the route goes deeper into the valley. The villages are getting smaller, the mountains higher. The track finally ends in Elzach. Here now some facts aboute the route: Lenght: about 30km Stations: 14 safety systems: PZB, LZB (Freiburg-Denzlingen) Services driveable: S2, RB26, RB27, S1/S11, S10 Services AI: fright, RE7, EC, ICE, TGV electrified singeltrack (Denzlingen-Elzach) Please note, I do not know if I will ever share this route. I am a beginner and have to learn how the editor works. I also do not have that much time for building. However, I try my best. Currently the route is much further developt than shown in this post. The next update will be about the Landscape, stay tuned.
Here now some new updates. I generated all the terrain with LIDAR data. The mountains along this route go up to over 1000m. I also made a landscape material with 3D grass and build some rivers. Here now some pictures from the editor:
Hello guys, it has been a while since my last update. Unfortunatily, I have some issues with TSW and the TSW Editor, but that´s not the topic of today. As you were able to see in the last update, I built the tracks and finshed them. The track network goes from Freiburg St.Georgen via the mainstation to Kollmarsreute. In addition to the line to Elzach, the freightyard and its connecting tracks to the industrial area has been built. Maybe, some shunting services will be possibel in future... I also added the S-Bahn tracks from Freiburg-Wiehre to Freiburg-Landwasser via the mainstation. After building the tracknetwork, I started the signaling and built overheadwires. I also made some test drives. The following Images will show you some of the proggress. I hope that I will solve the TSW problems until the next update.
TSW 7 has been announced, so thoght I can make a update too Since the tracks and signals are mostly finished, I started to develop the timetable for this route. The timetabel has no specific year, it is a mix from 2016 till today. The main vehicle is the Talent 3 (Br 8442). For the first version of the timetable, I used the Br 442 from KAH for it. I know this is together with Rapid Transit the worst Talent, but hopefully TSW7 will bring a better model. Maybe I'll mod a proper Talent 3 variant that highlights the differences between versions 2 and 3 and will have a bwegt livery. But I have no idea about that right now, and it's just an idea. During the day, ther are some shunting and cuppling services, that are pretty close to reality. On the S1 line between Freiburg Landwasser and Freiburg Wiehre I used the Br 425. In future, I will replace them with the Br 440. In reality, the successor model series Br 1440 operates on this part of the S-Bahn network. There are also a lot of services between Freiburg and Denzlingen on the Rheintalbahn. Unfortunately, there are no regional trains even close to reality. I replaced the Mireo (Br 463) and Desiro HC (Br 1462) services with the in TSW for Germany famous locomotive Br 146.2 with Dostos. These locomotive-hauled trains operated on the Rheintalbahn between Basel and Karlsruhe from 2016 to 2021. For the AI ICE services, I used the ICE1 (Br 401), with TSW7 I will replace them with the ICE4 (Br 412) like in reality. There are also some AI TGV services to Paris and Bordeaux, but I always get a electrification mismatch error. So I used the ICE3 (Br 406) as placeholder. If you know a solotion, please let me know. All EC and NJ services are operated with the normal Br 101. Since 2026, the EC services have been replaced by Swiss Giruno (RABe 501) trains, which run on different schedules. I haven't implemented this change. Most recently, I've added a few freight trains, but they don't follow any real-world schedule and are also just AI services. Maybe, there will be some shunting services on the freight yard and the industrial area of Freiburg. Overall, this Timetable has about 770 services and mostly every train, that stops at Freiburg Mainstation. The timetable is looping and 24 hours.
