With the Canada route and the new locomotive coming DLC, are we expecting some core game improvements/fixes? Is there any way to know?

There should be an update at some point, with some fixes for signalling on ECW and getting Mastery to work - hopefully that'll tie in to the new DLC update.

Why do they wait until big releases to patch older stuff?

I think it’s so they’re not continually releasing updates for us to download. I could be wrong..

They have a big list of things to fix, then it takes a while to fix, then it has to go though testing, then it has to be scheduled for release.

Also, the way UE updates, you end up having to download huge files rather than the little patch files you would expect. They don't want to give us anything else to complain about!

Along those lines, PS and Xbox patches have to certified before they can be released so it's easier and cheaper to do one big update than a bunch of little ones.

You are downloading only update for .pak files which is small but what takes long time is -> Steam is copying old .pak files into the download folder (or cache folder, i dont know right now), after it is downloading the update, after it is patching the .pak file and last part -> moving the file back to the TSW folder. Thats how is the update working... its not UE problem, it is Steam problem. Many games dont have big .pak files so yeah, update is much faster, but here most of the update time you will be looking at how is the Steam allocating space before update (thats the part when the steam is making copy of your .pak files.

Most of the time just before release there is a patch that get you fixes for the routes the locomotive DLC works on enabling it to work on the route and with it come route fixes if needed.

The same goes for the route DLC next week, maybe a core update (or they update everything today/tomorrow) so that next week it is just the release.

For updating those .PAK files, it is not just Steams problem, as the Epic Games Launcher does the same, it takes patches the pak file with the differences, so the download could be small, it takes a while. On an SSD it takes about 15m or more for a simple patch, you can see it reads/writes stuff around the maximum SATA speed. On M.2 it will take less time, but still, it takes time.

I'm on PS4 so I'm not sure we can blame Steam for the huge updates.

Oh, interesting. I should this time have a clock running while updating. Since I have all the DLCs one single patch of anything TSW related often leads to 2 hours of patching. Everything on SSD.
But since TSW is doing it like that since I know it and new stuff always comes out on Thursday, I boot up my PC, log into steam and before I go to sleep I shutdown my rig ;-)

    "Scheduled maintenance" kind of

Just updated twice today (after first getting the wrong build pushed).
The way Steam works, it copies the files from the game folder to the 'downloading' folder and then patches those bytes in files that are changed. Hence the update size is small, but it requires a lot of disc space to do the update and a lot of reading/writing.

As I do own all DLC and every DLC got an update today, it takes about 20m for everything to have patched on an regular SSD.
And it takes about 150gb (as it copies all .pak files). Wondering how large TSW will get in a few years of other DLC.

It is 6:25 pm and there is only 309Mb of downloaded.
And after, there will be the DLC Bullet to load.

Not sure it matters what time. Flashing yellow, followed by red with feather.

Sorry pictures closest I can get to any real evidence. Not sure if it would remain flashing after a train had passed though? Maybe It would?

Apologies as I might not be understanding correctly but it sounds like you got the following: 1 flashing yellow followed by steady red with junction indicator. Is that correct?

A red signal with a junction indicator... oh dear. That’s impossible in real life unless it’s a serious signalling fault in which case it needs reporting to the signaller immediately. It should be no less than single yellow at the junction signal if you’ve got a flashing yellow sequence.
