Exactly. When they write up a detailed article explaining, "There is a bug like this, and here is the plan to fix it," it gives you a clear idea of what to expect and makes it easier to wait patiently.

    Semmeringbahn is a nightmare mare. 5km -> 11km -> 4km -> 8km and then you reach the station :(

Good morning Vern and welcome to the TSW7 club, make sure to try the member exclusive cookies.

Regarding your graphic setup, to add to what JetWash has said, we do have a Graphical Settings Guide, which you can find here.
With a 3050 (Congrats on the upgrade), I would generally not go beyond 1440 if you are aiming for stable performance. 4k is certainly doable, but as you've already noticed, the increased resolution puts a lot of strain on your GPU.
Remember that you can also use the High or Ultra graphics presets and still use the Enhanced Lighting settings, improving your performance even further. Especially if you finetune some of the other settings outlined in the guide to your liking.

On Live Weather: This is based on the location of the route and the current time. So if it's currently raining in Leeds while you are playing, you will see that represented in the game.

    Hope that helps.

    All the best,
    Jan

Yes 1440p with DLSS/DLAA enabled basically doubled my frame rates and both Leeds and Miami were running at a comfortable (for me) 30 FPS. Of course, the only downside to a 30xx series card is no support for Smooth Motion but that is outside DTG’s control.

As regards the live weather, my main concern now is it not carrying over or rechecking the server when loading into a saved game.

Well i Just completed all the scenarios for all3 new routes and training center.a first for me usually 1 or 2 scenarios in previous tsw would not be able to complete due to a bug or glitch..Playing on PS 5 .so far i am enjoying tsw 7 still want to play the freight hauler mode even tough some things are not right with it according to other posts. As for the 3 new routes had fun so far with all 3 i like the tri rail route for the variety of loco s you get, and the freight .the Germany route surprised me did a couple of scenarios set in fall and winter ,the fallfoilage was more colorful had fun doing photo mode during my run..the snow looked good in the winter scenario..the game was running pretty smooth on my PS5 a few stutters here and there and playing with 4k turned on..

Because I intend to buy a Steam Machine and it'd be convenient to grab various bits of TSW as and when for when that moment arrives. If a docked 1080p/30fps is doable without overkill levels of graphical reductions then it makes more sense buying it on Steam than on a console where the game doesn't work properly.
ATS & ETS2 play quite comfortably at 1440p/30fps (I could go higher but I hate the fan noise when the GPU goes over 90% load so I aim for between 75%-90% and a silent deck) so I can't really see any reason why TSW shouldn't perform reasonably well above the deck's native resolution....but I do need yes/no confirmation.

Quick question for those who have played TSW7- do audio settings now save properly in between sessions? This bug was never fixed in the entirety of TSW6's life and it was such a pain to have to go back into the menu to tweak things every single time I opened up the game.

If it makes you feel better, I have a 4070 Super and enabled Smooth Motion yesterday. Maybe it's me but I didn't notice a jot of difference.

Probably you, back before high refresh screens were commonplace we used to have a lot of people saying they couldn't tell the difference between 30 and 60 FPS. So many that it became a meme in fact.

They have since moved on to 60 FPS is all you need.

Are you checking in the Nvidia Overlay that you've set it up correctly? I have it enabled on my 4070 Ti Super; with in-game FPS capped at 45, Smooth Motion is consistently reporting 90fps.

Which is absurd to see still being parroted to this day when experimental data shows people detecting flicker at up to 500Hz.

As I recall, it scales with saccadic motion fequency, so gamers more used to rapidly checking HUD elements would be expected to notice it more.

Anecdotally my own ability to notice a perceivable difference in framerates drops off at around the 90 mark, which is why I like to keep that as a baseline to remain above with a good margin for dips wherever possible.

Look, if I didn't perceive a difference, it was running fine to start with, so I'm not losing any sleep over it. I've never needed to display FPS in the corner of any game and obsess over it.

And, yes, I can perceive the difference between 30 and 60 FPS.

Has anyone else’s menu on TSW7 appear with no pics when returning to it from completing a timetable service?

Freight Hauler also causes my game to freeze?

Yes, had the same problem after completing one TT service. Around 95% of all pics (routes and trains) are all the same default-pic with an infinite loading circle on them.

Have you had any issues with Freight Hauler? Doesn’t seem to work, it loads in the yard and then you can’t move or do anything?

This was their idea for reducing load times, they literally just stopped these from loading in the load screens & now they load in front of you.

I think it’s a spectacularly…poor..idea that needs reversing. Especially since, as far as I’m aware, few if any users are bothered by the load times when returning to the menu, instead what bothers people is actually loading into the game from desktop.

You know it needs to be said, I keep seeing it be recommended to use Smooth Motion to boost to 60FPS from 30, but that just seems stupid. Anything I've ever heard on frame generators is that while officially they can do that, it's not that great. In reality it's better at doing something like going from 60FPS to 120FPS, because it has more data that it can generate frames with.

I suspect that might have to do with 60FPS "Not looking like a big step up", native 60 looks much better than frame gen 60.

The pictures loading asynchronously is one of the "improvements" for faster loading in consoles.

In games that require the player to have fast reflexes to win it would be a bad idea, but TSW7 is not that kind of game.

And yes, it is better if you can get 60 fps pre-framegen but it doesn't mean you should not use it with 30fps (in this game).

if that's the case, it seems to have failed, because they just don't load at all. The loading-circle just keeps circling. XD
(all after one TT service, that is. At the first start up of the game all is fine.)

Haven't tried that mode yet, will check later. :)

Yeah it will be loading every tile image for every route & every train you have installed.

No idea who thought it would be a good idea, but I’m guessing they announced it before they saw what it actually did, thus just left it how it was.

I’ve managed to figure it out, it was the God Mode mod causing issues. I removed it and it works fine now.

I disagree. In my case they where all there after a few seconds. I would like to keep the quicker loading time.

We all believe you, but just wait and see what happens tomorrow.
Because if you can install all your other DLCs tomorrow, I’m sure that what’s worked so far probably won’t work quite so easily then.

So after playing the game for a few days... this is a rough release..

Epic Settings + Enhanced Lighting + DLSS support is great. While they are technically different things, they are contemplating each other, resulting in a much much nicer visual quality, in a way that merits a major being a feture of a new release. Especially the Epic settings and Lighting, it's a culmination of years of JetWashes work, of tinkering, play-testing, listening to feedback, adjusting... again and again.... And the effort put into it shows...

This is for me the biggest positive of TSW 7... but sadly, it feels like the only positive of the release. Which, this being a PC only feature, makes the situation on consoles extra rough.

I don't want to say the routes are bad. They are not, they looks solid so far, with feel that maches the region, nice scenery detail work. The accompanying trains are also good, and I feel especially the sound department improved a lot year-to-year, I overall like the sounds and mixing. It is also good to have a new license onboard, epsecially one so open, as tri-rail seems to be. But there isn't anything exceptional about them, and having them as separate routes, and not part of core package would work just fine..

The ICE 4 could be the flagship content, that would fit a 'deluxe' flag... But the state it is in.. oh boy... While it looks and sounds good. The system implementation currently it is a mess. Not only does it not have the 'all trains from now will have this' feature - random fauls, it doesn't even respect the new safety system settings, the AFB drivers like its drunk, and the whole train gets exceptionally broken when loading from a save game. Will it get fixed and improved? Who knows, but in this state it is really not worth the asking price...

Now, the features, the 'major improvements' that we only get once per year, in the yearly release. Man...while the enhanced lighting is a properly matured feature... everything else feels, and I don't want to offend anyone working on those features... more like a tech demo, than a fully fleshed out feature that is ready for public

The AI conductor outright causing crashes, stalled trains (guard panel being in use), and messing with cab controlls (like reverser).
Live weather not even having smoothed transitions, just calling a service and translating the weather values to ingame values.. like that took me a weekend, with figuring out how to use the API, to do. How can it enter release in such state?

The same with Freight Hauler - great idea... but I don't think randomly spawing 50 wagons on the whole route, with random destinations..With no customizability for the user is an enjoyable experience. I cannot imagine anybody playtesting it saying - "yep that's fine, and usable, even with the broken savegames". Yeah yeah, it can be improved - it took you a whole year to somewhat improve TSR... It took you years to address the unusable dynamic weather... I don't imagine this gets refined into a usable gameplay mode. Conductor mode not moving futher kinda supports this.

The same the new UI... You really need a preview stream for people to tell you that yellow is not a good color for general text? You really cannot see that birght text on bright background has terrible readability?

All these features feel like there isn't an oversight, an owner, who has idea what the feature should look in the end, what it should bring to the player and guide the team to getting there (like JetWash had an idea what and how to improve in the game). Figuring out what the MVP (don't forget the V stands for Viable...) would be, what effort would it take, and then overseing the development. Mods generally have a clearer vision of what they try to achieve (and are less buggy), than this product, you expect pepole to pay for... and that is a rough spot to be in as a dev....

It seems more of a way of fobbing people off that the game can run acceptably, because they didn't waste a moment to add "*You may require upscaling/frame generation to reach your performance target." to the hardware requirements.

Same! I'm not seeing this issue at all on my setup. It's much faster than TSW6.

Are people getting the spinning circle not using an SSD perhaps?

No, still broken. I don’t have TSW7 but I’ve seen it reported that the settings still don’t persist and there are some new settings that also don’t persist.

There’s a comment in a thread somewhere of someone with a 5090, saying they’re satisfied to get a locked 30fps before upscaling. Man you have to laugh at how low DTG can go with things & people are actually celebrating them for it.

I genuinely believe that they could take all AI traffic out of the console builds to the point you’re the only train on the route, and people would still find a way to say ‘great job’.

Obviously upscalers are an important part of modern gaming & it’s quite the move to not support them in this day & age, but too many developers use them as a crutch rather than an enhancer. TSW does not look so good to the point that you should need to use native 30-45fps & then add things like smooth motion to achieve 60-90. That’s the sort of performance level you get from something like OMSI2 with lossless scaling.

Hmm, I'm using a NMVe SSD, so I wouldn't think it's because of this. Maybe it was just an outlier? I just did my first few test runs - have to do more testing later.

Thank you for the well-written and detailed overview. It's nice to know that I made a safe choice not pre-ordering and sticking with 6 for the time being. I'm not even sure I really want the free version at this point, to be honest.

In general you shouldn't use it in competitive games, but that's pretty irrelevant for TSW. The point on generate frames being bad around 30FPS though I don't believe is specific to any type of game, most if not all of the tech analysis I've see is on single player games, probably because multiplayer is considered a bad use case in general.

Ironically, if FPS really doesn't matter I'd go the whole hog and suggest no frame gen at a solid 30 makes more sense. Value the quantity of frames in a game where it's supposedly not needed is frankly kind of stupid. No matter how you look at it the advice these developers are giving don't make sense.

The real kicker's the games actual frame rate (Keeping in mind I don't own some of the most recent route that supposedly do have massive problems) can be very high, lot of old routes reach my FPS cap easily. Newer routes don't, but they can usually achieve around half that, which in theory is a really good use case for frame generation. What kills the game's fluidity isn't the FPS, it's the stutter, if that didn't exist the game would run at 60+ FPS fine, on high end systems even probably around 120FPS with little issue.

Remembering that when this game was developed the hotness was an i7 7700K, CPU progress has done a lot to soften the general issues but even with all the extra performance we have 10 years later we don't feel any closer to bruit forcing away that stutter.

TSW is quite unique in that you are inside a vehicle that moves at a pretty constant speed even when you are accelerating or braking. This makes much easier to predict how a fake frame between two real ones will look like, meaning you will not see many artifacts in the fake frame even when the base framerate is as low as 30fps. This does not happen in most games, and what makes framegen with 30fps as a base not a good idea for those games.

Most people will think that 60fps video feels more fluid than 30fps, and it also causes less eye strain in long gaming sessions. It is OK if you can't feel any difference, but that doesn't make using framegen bad advice for most people.

When I ditched it back in the era of the TSW3-4 switch, some of the heavier routes would dip below 60 even in 1080p mode, I have my Series X output set to 120Hz so VRR on my display helped with the perceived stability of those dips.

4PM today is the great DLC download phase for console.

The long and repetitive action of having to download all of your DLC again. Woohoo, yeah...

Unfortunately, i genuinely dont think there is a way around this for consoles, and its just something we, as console players unfortunately have to live with.

No having to stop PS4 versions of DLC downloading this time though, so swings and roundabouts.

I’m just leaving all the older routes in TSW 6 for now. Enjoying how quick and seemless everything is with just 3 installed and given what extra layers seemingly does to the German route, I’ll leave it actually working with no crashes or blurry textures.

Obviously if/when any older routes get any meaningful updates then I’ll add them to TSW7 at that point.

Sorry I only bet if I think I might have at least a small chance of winning :) But if I were to place a bet I would wager Playstation. Not DTGs fault, its just the way Sony does things

Brilliant. Just goes to show that DTG really do the absolute bare minimum.

I have decided after i start to download routes into TSW7 for layers. I will just install my US routes to get layers i need for the Miami route ..and UK route .the Germany route i will not install any german routes will just leave alone since it running fine for me.at moment on PS5 , plus after seeing the crashes on console livestream with all routes and layers..i also plan on being more selective on which routes i install prob keep TSW 6 to play those and only buy new routes DLC that are released for 7 .or if a older route dlc is improved enough to add to 7 ,a older route that has layers i need .
