Feature Live Weather - Feedback Thread

Used live weather for the early morning Skipton to London service (don't remember head code but it's the only one) with the 801 and it kept switching suddenly from being really foggy to no fog at all and vice versa. Series S

 

If this is live weather for when I'm playing then there's no guarantee it's an appropriate weather pattern for the time of day of the service.

If it's someplace that is foggy or cloudy in the mornings but clears by noon, this should be reflected by time-appropriate weather information.

 

So I'm finding there is no fade transition between weather states as I'll be driving a service like Doncaster to Peterborough and the weather just suddenly changes.

 

For me the transitions between the different Weather situations is to hard . One Moment its sunny and a bit cloudy , in the next moment there is the whole heaven full of clouds whitout any transition between them . Hope there will be a update for this , wich makes it smoother .

 

Loading a saved game, the previous live weather is lost and the game doesn't appear to be contacting the server to update. Resumed my run in sparkling sunshine, the actual weather in Leeds is dull and overcast.

 

In my opinion having "live weather" is not very useful.

Example: I play a service that starts in-game January 1st at 3am (should probably be very cold weather), then the game uses the "live weather" of the zone that can easily be august 1st at 4pm (which is summer hot). Makes no sense at all.

A historic weather approach like Winzarten's app has makes much more sense.

 

That is also a good point. Not sure how the flight simulators get round that.

Sadly unless DTG buff this feature I can see this going the same way as the failed Bidstack billboard advertising caper, which flopped miserably after a few months and never worked properly.

 

Q/A is non-existent. A sunny day to fog to instantly back to sunny day. Please patch in smooth transitions. £58+ is a lot for me

 

Its in the list of fixed things in the release day patch.

Do you really think the live weather will work properly after this update?
I don’t think so, because whenever DTG fixes a bug, we end up with two or three new ones.

 

According to the notes they have also fixed it not updating when loading a save game, so when I install my free version later I’ll be testing that on Liberec or one of the JT routes.

 

My stance is I will believe it when I see it. I said that it is the patch notes, not that it's actually fixed

the transitions are still too quick for my liking- just had a completely overcast sky turn blue in no more than 15 seconds. definitely better than before, but still work to be done

 

I spawned in at my local station in rochester and it was fully overcast and the real weather outside was sunny with small amounts of cloud it feels a bit inaccurate this was on the series x

 

I was trying TSW 7 Live Weather and I think it is a Bit strange that its completely dark in Bremen at 17:30? In the evening, the sunset is normally at about 19:30. Can you fix that please?

 

that’s not due to live weather, sunrise and sunset times in tsw are completely wrong for some reason

 

I've never seen any precipitation or wet ground. In places were it's suppose to be thunder storming or raining it is overcast but absolutely no wet ground and no rain. I've tried multiple situations. This is on PC

 

Same on PS5. No rain at all even when I've looked at the met office app and rain is in that area. I'm not sure the weather is supposed to change through a timetable service because I've either had sunny weather or grey sky.

But I check locations and the weather isn't accurate.

 

I remember when I first launched TSW7, under Live Weather, "today" and "live" were both clickable, as if you were choosing between realistic weather of a particular day and realistic weather at that particular moment... now none of those two are clickable...

 

I never saw that option.

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I haven't ever seen rain with live weather turned on... And now I've just checked a weather app saying it was raining for at least another 60 minutes in Dresden, I spawned in at Dresden Hbf on Dresden - Leipzig and sure enough, no rain, just overcast. So, it's starting to look a little suspicious. It looks to me like live weather might not be able to turn to rain right now, I think. I could be wrong though, it would need to be checked by someone that lives next to a route so they know the actual weather, not just a forecast.

 

I live in Saltburn. There was definitely rain a few days ago, the weather app I use showed rain, it was raining outside my house but I loaded up the tees valley route and just grey skies. Something isn't right.

 

I get grey skies everywhere too.

 

All I get no matter what time of day, what month and country its always grey and dull. Thats it no rain no sunshine no nothing.

 

I mostly get clouds too on Live Weather. I think I got fog once on Airedale and sun once on East Coastway

 

Yep, I think it's broken, just getting overcast skies where it's clearly blue skies at the moment.

Strange, because I'm sure it was working a few days ago, was getting some nice cloudy transitions.

 

Yep I noticed always grey and dull recently.

 

Now, just playing the Leeds route, seem to be getting some cloud variation, not just leaden skies...maybe it's come back to life.

 

Yeah, on Boston to Providence in Providence where it's raining heavily on the weather radar with 90% precipitation for several hours and it's dry with overcast skies.

 

Yep, just checked Miami and it’s been raining all afternoon. Game is showing overcast.

Funnily, despite the jarring transitions, the weather variation before the update was…. Well…. Varied!

 

It's definitely not working right. It's one of there new features! Hopefully it will be fixed quickly. I was really looking forward to the live weather.

 

Started a run on Frankfurt S-Bahn last night and yet again just defaults to light overcast clouds.

Definitely think this will go the way of Bidstack, unless DTG can buff up the implementation a bit.

 

You can't choose month. It's "Live weather"

 

I just realised what i wrote stupid me.

 

I do wonder if the game compensates for temperature differences if you are playing on a cool evening but the timetable run is at 1pm on a hot summer afternoon?

 

I've been using the picture mode settings to see exactly what the weather settings are during a run. They do vary between 100% and 98% clouds and 0% and 2% wetness, which is interesting. My guess is that it is supposed to look at how close to freezing it is, based on the settings in picture mode. It's broken right now, and It's summer so it can't be tested yet; because, it's not cold enough.

 

Live Weather takes the weather that’s currently happening in the real world, and it uses the Live Weather that matches your route.
So if it’s 35 degrees outside in the height of summer, but you’re playing in the snow in December in the game, TSW uses the real-world weather of 35 degrees.
Because otherwise it would be historical weather, as shown in Winzarten’s weather app.

The live weather system we have in TSW 7 doesn’t usually match any of the tracks.
This is because many of the tracks in TSW are set in 2026.
Most of the tracks are set in earlier years.

 

You mean when you play at say 10PM and the service you play is a 1PM service? that would be intresting if it adjusts for the weather that it would have been some hours earlier.

 

You don't choose a date with live weather. It's always today.

The game automatically uses the real-world weather on the day you’re playing, regardless of what settings you choose in the game – whether it’s a different month or you’re driving on older routes.

 

The changes are still happing too quickly. While,doing a run on SKA this weekend, I had heavy clouds change into almost no clouds at all and then changing back to totally overcast all in a timespan of about 80 seconds.

 

What he means is that if you play on August 18th in real-world summer, for example, you can't play in winter because the live weather setting will then use August 18th. You can't set a date in the live weather settings. However, what would work is ignoring the time difference. If you take a morning train in the game, for example at 8:15 AM, but it's 3:00 PM in real life, then it will use the weather for 3:00 PM.
Was aber er meint ist, wenn man im Realem Sommer z.B. 18. August spielst, dann man icht im im Winter spielen, weil das Live Wetter Einstellung dann der 18. August nimmt. Man kann bei Live Wetter kein Datum stellen. Was aber gehen würde ist, die Zeitverschiebung nicht berücksichtig. Wenn Man im Spiel ein morgen Zug nimmt, z. B. 8:15h, aber im Realen 15:00h ist, dann nimmt es das Wetter von 15:00h.

 

Seems to be back working, getting clear/cloudy sky variation in London area.

 

DTG Jamie has asked for details regarding the live weather issue. They are going to let the team know. This was on discord.
