Nonsense, why are you saying that while now knowing a 4k monitor is also a 1080p monitor in disguise?

    https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/27ud58-b

This is a 4K 60Hz monitor that came out in 2018 for under $300.

    https://uk.pcmag.com/graphic-cards/121538/nvidia-geforce-rtx-2070-super

This is a review of the 2070 Super from 2019, which includes "Nvidia's GeForce RTX 2070 Super rules for solid 4K play at 60Hz...".

They don't work on their own, what does this even mean?

This is a 2024 article comparing a 3600 with a 7600 and a 7800X3D. You will note that as the resolution increases the CPU matters less, not more, making the 3600 a BETTER balance for a 4K display with an older GPU.[/QUOTE]

Everyone's feedback is very helpful. PC environments, in particular, vary from person to person, making the adjustments quite a challenge this time around.

Thank you for fighting my corner. I've decided after chatting with the wife I'm going to upgrade in the near future. But I have loved my 2070 and played many games on my 4k monitor and if games have been more demanding I've dropped it to 1440 or 1080.

I just needed help for what settings I needed to do as I find it a bit confusing. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.

If you got yourself an enjoyable experience on TSW6 I'd just copy your settings directly, then enable DLSS on quality mode. You should generally be getting a slightly better frame rate on like for like settings plus adding DLSS upscaling.

If you want to try the other DLSS modes, like I mentioned in one of my other replies here you should definitely force preset K in the Nvidia App, as otherwise when you switch to DLSS performance or ultra performance it'll use heavier presets so you don't get as clear of an uplift in performance.

For TSW7, has anyone ran into an instance where in the main menu, the images for the route tiles just keep loading. The picture does not load for the tiles, but they just keep spinning showing they are trying to load. I recently downloaded almost 250 mods from train sim community so I am not too sure if it could be the number of mods.

I also noticed on one of the wcml night runs, the Class 805 has no headlights or taillights. While the mods improve immersion, that is one of the reasons I don't exactly like using them, because it can easily break how the sim is supposed to function

The problem isn’t the number of mods, but the fact that you’re using mods.
It seems that TSW 7 is now having trouble loading the route images in the overview as soon as you use mods.

DTG should fix this as soon as possible, as these issues with the menus in TSW haven’t occurred before.
And DTG should stop telling people to delete their mods, as that won’t make the menu images load properly again.
In my opinion, DTG hasn’t just made things worse with this TSW 7 menu – they’ve actually broken it.

It's 100% sure mod related. DTG has changed the way how this thumbnails are loading and some mods are not compatible. I have 233 mods installed and 1 of them was the problem but I have seen here on the forums that some people have it on multiple mods. So you have to check them one by one to find the them.

The menu still functions without the pictures.

Ah man, that is going to be a nightmare to find the culprit(s) since there is no way to tell which mod is faulty. If only there was a feature or indicator in the add on manager from train sim community or if a feature like that can be built in natively so we can know which mods are faulty and which mods conflict with eachother. Mods further enhance the immersion and realism for TSW but they can also be a headache too trying to troubleshoot, which takes away from actual TSW playtime The tile loading issue for routes in the main menu was not an issue in TSW5 and TSW6 but is introduced in TSW7. There are definitely some things in TSW7 that still need to be fixed like the font on the HUD cutting out at the top as the player reaches the next signal as well. I do remember in a livestream a few months ago though, DTG Matt answered my question regarding mods and while they are encouraged since there is alot of creativity and enhancements to further enhance the player experience, he prefers a pure vanilla experience for TSW, I believe primarily for a clean hassle free installation that performs optimally after each TSW patch. The good thing is, we do have jetwash's 2 most popular mods now featured natively now

I'm curious if it's specifically mods without "assetregistries" causing this issue, they were the primary cause of the out of memory crashes during loading on TSW6, quite a few mods had to release updates to fix this last year. I also repacked a ton of mods manually to add these files in and it reduced my loading time significantly for TSW6.

I'm absolutely no expert on the complexities of modding, aside from some dabbling in creating I'm primarily just a user. But I wonder if that's what's going on here.

An interesting observation is, some Mods like some Enhancement Packs for trains with new sounds ect come with their own thumbnails and all of those are still loading fine at any time.

It definitely seems like earlier iterations of TSW handled loading thumbnails for enhancement packs and other mods better than TSW7

Deleting !Tesco_FKA.pak and NR_153VIU.pak fixed it for me, took it from this thread:

Back to the basics, I uninstalled all 220-250 mods I had and notice the thumbnails load instantly after running a route. Did a test run at night on the NY-Stamford route with all settings maxed out including TAA and had a smooth run from Fordham to Grand Central terminal. 50fps leading into Grand Central Terminal, I was surprised to see that. With mods, I was only getting 10-20, lol. Enjoying without the mods for now :)

I have a rtx 3060ti and a ryzen 5600, and I must say that sreen percentage makes my game lags alot. I also have 16gb ddr4. But the rtx3060ti is pretty close to a rtx3070

Well, first of all, your 16 GB of RAM is really the bare minimum for a PC; it would be better if you had at least 32 GB of RAM.
Then there’s the RTX 3060 Ti – unfortunately, it only has 8 GB of memory, which isn’t enough for many games these days. And the 3060 Ti isn’t anywhere near as good as a 3070 Ti, as the 3070 Ti is around 16 to 18 per cent faster and better.
On top of that, you can now get an RTX 3070 TI with 16 GB of RAM, which can make a huge difference.

yes I know 16 gigs of ram is low, I will upgarde that, but as you know, the ram prices... About the gpu, I am considering to upgarde to a rtx 4070 super/ rtx 5070 but also that will cost a fortune... For nwo tsw7 seems to run fine on preset ultra :)

Does anyone have a guide on how to best run the game on an AMD Card?
Im on an RX 9070XT paired with a 1440p display. FSR set to Quality, FG Off, Settings a mix of Epic and Ultra, Shadows set to medium ..
And on some of the more demanding routes ... it's struggling!
Appreciate any tips on how to optimise!

I’d recommend you have a go at using the forum’s search function.

There have been a great many posts on the subject of TSW 7 and AMD graphics cards, but the best way to find them is by using the forum’s search function.
This is because these posts were posted in different threads.

Why you turned off frame generation? Its there to add extra frames and made the game more stable right?!

But why? The latest hardware frame generation is available. 9070 is not XT, monitor is 3440x1440 - there are only problems with viscosity when the real FPS drops below 45, but it’s still better than without frame generation.

I turned it off as I found that it was creating quite a few more visible artefacts, especially in busier routes where framerates dropped below 45 frames..
Is the general consensus to keep FG enabled?

That is my struggle, frames dropping to 45 or lower on busier routes like Frankfurt or foilage heavy routes like Mittenwaldbahn. So turned FG off, so when framerates temporarily drop, graphics don't glitch out..

Not all of them. Textures, Distance rendering, foliage, and particles are set to Epic, the rest Ultra, Shadows to Medium.
Any settings worthwhile dialing down that don't really make a difference in Image quality?

Strange... The 9070XT is very strong. What type of processor do you have?

Should be plenty fast for TSW.
    Ryzen 5 9600X, 32GB RAM.
It's not that it's running awful. I'ts just dipping well below 60 fps in parts of Frankfurt, Mittenwald, or Stuttgart with current settings.

Ah i understand you're point now but that's very normal. You never get a stable 60fps in such areas. I have a RTX5080 and will have the same outcome. That's not youre system but a limitation of the game. You expecting to much here I think. I think when they push the performance update for trains you will notice a difference here. This update is mainly for consoles but for pc in areas like Frankfurt Hbf you may notice a performance lift as well. The game suffers from the amount of ram that is used from the large amount of trains

Thanks for sharing your experience. If you got the same issues despite running a 5080 then it might be just a game limitation here.
In all fairness though, I do activate all layers, which does amount to quite some hustle and bustle for the game to deal with!
That having all said, I tested Cologne the other day, and desite an insanely busy train station it ran very smoothy. But perhaps, I am comparing apples with papayas here as it's an older route with that was differently built with fewer assets etc..
The route has come a long way though. What a contrast to the TSW 2 original!

The game is very weak in optimalisation and that's also the problem for consoles. Years they have build without looking if it is future proof. Now as today you see the results and who is most suffering from it. And yeah a pc is way stronger then a console so you noticed the issues in larger routes like Frankfurt S Bahn.

I'm running a non-XT 9070 myself, so our performance should be pretty much in the same ballpark. Interestingly, I also play on Niddertalbahn a lot, and even on the heavier, foliage-dense sections where you are seeing those artifacts, my graphics don't really break or glitch out.
For me, the main issue at sub-45 FPS on that route is just that the game starts feeling incredibly sluggish and 'heavy' due to the massive input lag (that typical muddy/jelly-like responsiveness). The image itself stays mostly clean, but the controls just completely give up on being smooth.
So yeah, I'd say the consensus is spot on: if your base framerate can't hold a steady 50–60 FPS before turning FG on, it's usually better to leave it off just to keep the gameplay responsive. But there are no frame rate artifacts, at least for me. In fact, I only see a drop in FPS based on input lag and Steam monitoring.

This sim runs perfectly well with a 30fps cap and frame generation on, just like flight sim does. It is not a first person shooter, it simply does not need 90+ fps

    What would be your recommendation:
FSR to Quality, Cap frames at 30 in Game, enable 2x FG and Anti-Lag in AMD driver settings?

I'd disagree with you. 90 FPS isn't necessary, of course, but 50 real FPS is, otherwise there'll be increased sluggishness even in slower gameplay. I don’t know how to describe it more precisely, but personally my eyes feel uncomfortable + it can cause problems with monitor flickering (FPS is stable, but the monitor frequency fluctuates up and down).

Leave everything as is. I've tried different options, but it won't work perfectly. There's no magic way to fix everything. As long as the FPS is above 50 (with FG 100), everything is fine. If it drops below that or is artificially capped at 30, things will get worse. You can put up with the jelly on the screen, but the side effect is that it drives the monitor crazy through freesync. It is also worth installing MPO-GPU-FIX and Fixing the cache to Always On and disabling HAGS helps a little.

I’ve demonstrated that’s not the case time and time again. 30fps capped with frame generation on and it is smooth and artefact free. If you’re not seeing the same thing then there has to be an issue with the way you have it set up, or your monitor.

To re-iterate, this is 30fps capped with smooth motion on giving 60fps total.

I did notice that when you had to rotate the camera to get to the controls at the beginning of the run the image turned into a blurry mess, then for the next 48 mins of the 49 min video the drivers head/external camera are completely fixed in place. Seems like an intentional, very unnatural way to play.

At no point in that video, at all, is the image a ‘blurry mess’.

No need to try to start a quarrel. When you had to rotate the camera to get to the controls at the beginning of the run the image turned into a blurry mess.

Could you put up a demonstration video with your settings where you have a look at the scenery out of the side window while you are driving along, get out of the cab and manually change some points, maybe find some collectables, just have a general wander around. These are things people do in the game and to say if settings are or aren't acceptable it's the kind of thing that needs to be seen. https://access-ability.uk/2022/04/25/gaming-with-motion-sickness/

Question, with DLAA and DLSS, I notice when I approach a train or another train approaches me, the other train appears to morph ever so slightly or have a visual warping effect, or swimming visual artifact. It's like the other train slightly stretches for a split second as it approaches before returning back to normal. I wonder if this has something to do with AI reconstruction. I thought it was perhaps my RTX3070 but google Gemini said that all RTX cards experience this to some extent. Not sure how true Google Gemini is but I wanted to ask here

The visual warping does not happen in TAA but I do notice with TAA, the GPU is working much harder than DLAA

I watched the video, and when the camera moved forwards and then back at night, nothing was blurry at all.
Have you set the video quality to the highest setting? I even watched it again at just 720p quality, and even then nothing was blurry.

Either you’ve got a problem with your graphics card or your monitor.

    malikrthr
I’ve still got an RTX 3070 TI with 10GB installed myself, but I don’t experience any of that sort of thing at all.

I have to be honest, I've had both AMD and NVIDIA recently, and AMD Fluid Motion simply can't match NVIDIA Smooth Motion. The experience with NVIDIA is genuinely much better. I've also personally found AMD to be less stable and somewhat cheap-feeling in terms of the overall experience. It's not that AMD wasn't playable, but NVIDIA is just top-notch.

The screengrabs are from the video. It's not a graphics card or monitor problem if I can pause the youtube vid and the blur is frozen in time.

    That’s exactly what I mean.
I’ve watched the video too and pressed pause as well, but for me it never shows anything blurry.
So the problem must be on your end, because otherwise other users like me would also be able to see these blurry bits.

Yes, now I can see what you’re seeing too.
When the camera pans from left to right in the video and you then press pause, the image looks blurry.
But that’s down to YouTube, not the settings that Jetwash shows in the video.

I just got the lossless scaling program. Hoping I can get smoother gameplay with this, capping in game fps to 30, similar to RTX4000 and RTX5000 series cards. It would be cool if NVIDIA extended smooth motion to RTX20 and 30 series cards.

Yes, I watched your short video. It’s strange that nothing gets blurred in your video, even when you press pause while filming.
Then I really don’t understand why Jetwash’s video gets blurred when you press pause, but yours doesn’t.

Hypothesis: The settings only work when the camera is fixed, if you start looking around it turns into a "walking home drunk at 2am simulator".

why 50FPS, the human eye can not see more than 24 FPS, anything above this is a waste
