Not to be offensive to the creators but just looking at the quality of those loco's it seems they were made in Paint and just exported. Just simplistic if you look at other content for TS, some older RSC and even Kuju stuff looks better. If it is the same quality of the other routes from the creator, be prepared for reused kuju sounds and assets. On the other hand, it should be solid 60fps or more. But it is different then the regular European of American releases, South Africa this time.
I am surprised just as you are I ask about a while ago and got we have no info on release. And like you say almost a year and it is finally out, I never thought this route was going to happen with the long time from announcement to now.
I'm surprised that this actually released, but I'll have to admit, it looks pretty bad. Like MSTS bad. It looks like the devs gave up after the plows on the locomotive and did no weathering whatsoever for the rest.
In the requirement both the EU and US Assets packs are required so that might point to where some of the sounds will come from Peter
I see the locos have got the DRG thermo-nuclear headlights that are brighter than the sun, as they cast a beam in sunlight! They aren't unique to this route, but I wish DTG would do something about them.
A little hard to judge upon one review at this time, I at this time unable to afford the route I have it on my wishlist. Hopefully by then there will be more reviews that are good.
To be honest 5min in my mind is not enough to judge whether the route is good or not. I believe you need to at the very least you should complete a scenario before passing such judgement.
So I have just checked and there is a second view the person recommends the route, the only issue he could find is the external sounds need to be fixed.
If you only go about the pictures shown it is not worth it (pictures say a lot with TS2020 DLC). But some people are easily satisfied as they don't have high expectations because the either use a lower quality setting or just happy to have the route.
As DTG did not make this route or the Assets in it how are they going to do something about them? They are not allowed to alter another persons copyright material
DTG most certainly can if they are the publisher. "Sort this problem out or we won't publish it" would do it. Alternatively, the could modify the underlying game mechanism that produces this effect in many routes.
If there was a problem with the underlying game mechanism then it would affect other DLC as well I'm sure you can tell me which other routes/trains have this problem and why others don't The standards of this DLC are not much better than Johansteam, the creators, two previous South African routes https://store.steampowered.com/app/...tal_Corridor_PietermaritzburgLadysmith_AddOn/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/376935/Train_Simulator_Outeniqua_Choo_Tjoe_Route_AddOn/ Peter
The actual amount of content seems quite good for the price, with 199 route miles, locomotive and lots of freight/passenger rollingstock. Looking at the screenshots it's the textures/materials which are letting it down. I think if they replaced the orange/brown ballast texture around the track with a better quality texture, that would help a lot. The model of the grain elevator looks like basic model with very little detail on the textures. The locomotives are again a flat texture, no weathering on the body sides, no bump/normal map to give that rippled metal sheet effect. If they spruced up the textures it would probably improve things a lot.
Something else I noticed, the locomotives lost their branding that was seen in the preview back in March. Guess they couldn't get the licensing for it.
