Hi there, I wasn't following closely the last couple of months; any news regarding the beautiful and long awaited DB BR 420?
It's just vapourware. Don't expect it to ever release. On a side note, has anyone even heard from TSG on the forums?
I saw Maik comment a couple of weeks ago (think it was in response to Vern on something 420 related?) that the 420 was just in a queue of projects. Certainly not something I’d expect anytime soon.
Maik also works on projects for DTG, and the 420 is a side project, so it keeps getting pushed back. Besides, we all know what’s coming, so yes the fact that it’s listed among other projects isn’t surprising.
I suppose the 232 will return after release of the 420. Maik stated serveral times in the past months and years, that the 232 is also WIP.
All i can (and want to) say is: both trains exist and will be released at some point. There is no need to call it vaporware. It's known that i work 2nd party for DTG (for reasons) and currently on such a project that, as always, takes way more time than expected when i applied to it. That's how these things are. But does not mean that i will cancel the planned work on my own DLCs at all. At least not at the state they currently are.
maik’s just spoken about it in a roadmap thread, and it sounds like it could be a year away or maybe even more
I agree it sounds quite much, maybe a bit more than actually intended. However as it seems he is doing all the work alone. Makes me wonder if it wouldnt be possible to ask other members of TSG to help out? At least I cant imagine them refusing to do so.
I'm not doing the work alone. That would be impossible to do in a economic fashion. It's 3 people at the moment. And no, it will not be another year to wait for it, more like 4-12 weeks i hope. My plan is to hand the completed DLC over to DTG in about 3 weeks. From there on it's basically out of my hands how long it will take. Yes, it wasn't going as expected from the very first minute of doing it. But all the delays and problems have some positive outcomes too. We now have 3 versions for use on different routes and time periods what improves the possibilities for gameplay a lot.
Yes, it's the same as a good wine... letting it mature makes the flavor much more enjoyable. I think that will benefit TSW 7 as well.
Thanks for the clarification. It wont be easy to wait until its release, but it will definetly be worth it.
it sounds like a lot of detail has gone into this which is brilliant, i think the most important thing is that everyone involved learns from this; dtg need to stop announcing dlc until they’re positive it’ll release within a few months, and hopefully tsg are even better at loco dlc’s after this. i never bought the g6 but from what i’ve heard it’s very good, so i haven’t got any concerns about the 420
The G6 front windows are incorrect, to small in comparison with the real locomotive. It surprises me that nobody noticed this.
What does GTA6 have to do with TSW ? You cannot compare a major studio with a studio like TSG working in a niche market. I am very happy with the work done by TSG and if it takes a lot of time to finish the BR 420, so be it.
It will be done when it’s done, but sadly a real chance it may end up suffering from the same release fatigue as happened with Tadami. While it’s likely the 420 will be a quality item, DTG are squarely to blame for putting stuff on the Roadmap when it’s barely a couple of doodles in Blender. Eventually it gets to the point when people just lose interest and move on.
Well maybe they put it far too early on the roadmap, but on the other side we have something to look forward to! Because we all know TSG DLC’s are always very high quality. Waiting that long can be frustrating but good quality takes time.
I disagree, Tadami doesn't have bad reviews because of the time people waited for it. Because this doesn't influence your gameplay experience to a significant degree. It's the bad quality of scenery, sounds and gameplay which leads so negative reviews. As long as TSG delivers the quality you're used to from the G6 and the 218, the 420 will be a hit. I get the frustration people have because this train is an absolute legend, so people want to drive it rather sooner than later (me), but just knowing the fact that this DLC is not dead but in a good WIP state calms me down.
I certainly enjoyed the TSC version. The sounds reminded me of the old BR Class 310 (AM10) EMU’s that used to operate the Euston outer suburban services.
Finally good news (if actually happening). For me even more so because it probably means, Ludmilla finally gets a chance to progress.
Hey folks, To quickly jump in: Without an official announcement from our side, the expectations for a release window should be tempered. In addition to Maik's own schedule and plan, we have a certain list of checks the content needs to run through, and we are not ready yet to give you any kind of estimate on when that might be done. We want to avoid further disappointments based on delays, which is why we will share an announcement when it is ready, but not before. All the best, Jan
