Hi All I have just stumbled across this route, and have downloaded it but not installed it yet. I just wondered if anyone already has it installed, and what they think about the route ? Is it completely scenerised throughout ? Etc Etc Please post your thoughts ? Thanks Derek
The latest version has a wide network with full scenery if you have all the requirements. It is set in a transitional period with electrics only going as far as Rock Ferry rather than through to Chester and Ellesmere Port. The only issues I have encountered are gloomy lighting at night and in the underground stations which can be fixed with extra ambient light if you wish and a tight curve between Hamilton Square and Rock Ferry causing sets to derail at over 25 mph. Overall it is a really nice route with lots of different commuter and freight options.
Thanks for your input. Sounds like I will install it. But anyone else got any feedback on this little known route ?
It is a wonderful route, I would say that as I helped Mike by testing it and writing a load of scenarios for it. Thanks for the kind words about the route Malmac, Mike will be pleased to hear them, however, as for the tight curve I have never derailed on that corner to be honest.
Hi Horner, I made this route over the last 6 years, Started trying my hand at adding track to an exisitng route and got a bit carried away !! Rikwesson has kindly tested the route over the last few years and made some superb scenario's for it, Its basicaaly set at a time I can remember Chester Northgate station around 1968 and just carried on , I have recently completed the line through to Manchester Central and I am hoping ythat this new section will be available to download in the next few weeks . Its already had over 1500 downloads. https://www.facebook.com/groups/204700611276104/ has some photos of the new section from Northwich through to Manchester Central, If you install it and have any issue's please post on here and we will try and help
Probably my bad driving and sharp braking. I think it happened in both directions in a 508 set, but hasn't been an issue since as I stick to 25 mph. I'm pleased to hear the route is still being extended further and it will be interesting to see Manchester Central albeit at a period when it was presumably being run down to closure.
I have now completed adjusting every scenario for what looks like a great route. I have ran the route through RW Tools and located a few assets that are missing. These are not shown missing because they are in an AP Archive as I have excluded all those. I would like some help in knowing where to find the remaining missing assets please. Would anyone be willing to let me send them a copy of the xls report indicating which assets are missing, so they could help me locate them please ? Thanks Derek
I've got this route and some of the scenery and detailing near the track is very nice, I think it's a route which is designed to be viewed from the cab which conceals most of the empty spaces. I did spend a few hours adding some buildings and trees here and there to cover up some more empty areas. The route is an enjoyable drive especially if you enjoy playing the last days of steam along with the new diesels.
Quite a few Semaphore signals are not showing correctly throughout this route...ie their arms are often detached from their posts and are floating in mid air below the signals. The late Gary Padley helped me when I had this problem with another route, but I cant remember what the solution was ? Can anyone help ? I think its something to do with "Yelland Signals" in the editor ?
There is a corrupt set of these signals that have got into circulation. You just need to locate an uncorrupt set. You can get a full set from here: https://cubbyhole.co.uk/home/downloads/llandudnojcnholyhead/ . John
Hi John...Thanks for the reply. There seems to be two signal packs pop up when you go to that site, and put "yelland" in the search box. Could you tell me which of the two I am likely to need ? Thanks Derek
Are you using the most recent version from the Backdated Trains site? An earlier version which I tried had lots of missing stuff but the Backdated version downloaded as a complete route for me with no missing assets and full scenery.
This one: BR(LMR), BR(WR) & GWR signals by John Yelland Unless you are confident you have a full and up to date installation of John Yelland’s BR(LMR), BR(WR) and GWR signals, or have problems with your existing installation, please install this file. If you are experiencing software crashes, please read the included readme.txt file about removing unofficial script modifications. John
Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to those that solved my problem and told me where to find the working assets belonging to Yelland. I have had this same problem with other retro routes, and a quick test drive appears to show that ALL signals are now showing correctly at last. Really appreciate your help guys ! Thanks a lot Derek
Woo hoo...I see V5 is out, extending the route to Altrincham and Manchester Oxford Road !!! Can anyone tell me what I do if I already have V4 installed and am using it ? If I have to install the whole thing again under the "V5" heading, then surely I will lose all the scenarios I have installed in v4 ? Thanks Derek
Hi Derek, The advice is to delete version 4 before installing version 5 to ensure there isn't any.residue remaining in place. I kept a backup of the old version and copied the few scenarios I had created across to the new version after installing it. It was only a handful of scenarios but all seem to still work fine. John
Hi John Thanks for the reply. So I delete the old "content/route" folder but keep a copy of my own edited V4 scenarios say on my desktop.? Then I install the V5 route ? But when its installed, I then remove the v5 scenarios that it comes with. (as I have swapped stuff in my own version of the scenarios). Then I copy my own edited scenarios back in to the V5 route, together with any NEW scenarios for V5 ? Derek
Hi Derek, I'm sure that's what you mean, but only delete Content/Routes/bec2d7f8-0b7a-4aab-8d5e-fe8560eb55ba . . . and that's the only one you NEED to back up for this exercise. Per the web page: If existing user, recommend you delete folder "bec2d7f8-0b7a-4aab-8d5e-fe8560eb55ba" from your routes folder before reinstalling to make sure there are no residual issues. Don't delete other routes! You should be able to copy over your "old" scenarios, I don't see any need to delete those first. Just over-write when asked. Best regards, John
Hi Again John Thats great information. I hope to do it all later tonight. Cant wait to enjoy the new extension ! Thanks once again for all your help Derek
Hi Again All...its me ! I moved the original V4 "Content" folder to a safe place on my desktop. I then copied and pasted the "content" folder for V5 back into the game. The game folder showed up fine, and RW Tools shows it when I do a route check. But there were only the 4 presumably NEW scenario folders in the game folder, and when I load TSC up it doesnt show the route AT ALL ??? So I copied back into the game folder my original scenarios (some of which I had already done), into the route folder, and the route then shows up and I am able to load those scenarios ok. The extension to Altrincham shows on the route map too. But I dont think the NEW scenarios (presumably for the Altrincham section of the route, show up at all ? Can anyone help ? I havent installed any of "Riks Scenario Pk1" or "Riks Scenario Pk2 ". If it helps, I have tried a Quick drive starting at Altrincham heading towards Oxford Rd and it shows up fine. It just seems to be the 4 new scenarios that come with V5 that dont show up ? Yet their GUID numbers show in my folders ! Derek
