Are you playing on Steam? If yes, you could try verifying your game files, maybe something is off and could be fixed that way.
Yes on Steam. And yes I had Steam check the files and did so many other things like using chkdsk to look form problems on the filesystem, and I am very confused; after my last post i could finish a (short) run on the S-Bahn route and another one, slightly longer, on Main-Spessart without TSW crashing. It seems to be very random; maybe nothing to do with the S-bahn route at all? I need to gather a little more information I guess.
Did you experiencing this issue only when you play TSW or gives it an another result when you play other games? Sounds like a serious issue with a hardware part. Maybe your'e RAM or GPU is faulty
That's difficult to say. It's not like TSW is the only game that crashes sometimes, but the frequency that it happens is noticeably higher. I ran a system memory check a few weeks ago and all was fine. I'm not about to run it again anytime soon 'cause it takes a couple of hours on my pc Chkdsk /f returned no faults. The only pervasive error that I encountered and cannot seem to solve is that when I open the folder HKCU\System\CurrentControlSet\Control in regedit I get an error message: Error Displaying Value Cannot Display: Error reading the value's contents. I've tried to solve this even with the regdelnull tool, trying also to export/delete and re-import this registry tree, but run into errors exporting; I can't get rid of it. But maybe we're getting a little bit too much off-topic for this thread; sorry. I do appreciate you wanting to help me out!
Ah okay maybe you can do a GPU stresstest? And a reinstall of you're GPU drivers. You have test the CPU and when there is no result it could be the GPU instead of the CPU. I have a 5080 as well and it works extremely well on this route.
This would have been my next advise too. Sounds to me as if the graphics card might have some issue, might be a minor one which isn't as noticeable on other games as it is with TSW. I'd suggest removing your GPU drivers completely and then do a fresh reinstallation. I had trouble with one of the newer NVIDIA drivers too (the one released around the start of September) and this helped
Schermvlieger Since you’ve edited your engine.ini file, I wanted to ask if you’ve also installed any mods for TSW, or if you use mods. If so, try removing all the mods and see if the route runs normally. Because there are many mods that worked great in TSW 6 but can cause problems in TSW 7.
Indeed; I tried to install the latest Nvidia drivers but ran into problems there as well. I ended up switching off some turbo/high performance related settings in the Bios (after updating the Bios to the latest version) because I started to suspect my CPU is damaged due to the Vmin Shift Instability issue. I never thought my pc would suffer from that problem since i never "overclocked" it myself. Turns out the factory default bios settings of my system were already pushing the CPU to (over) its limit. After tuning the bios back, I was able to install the nvidia drivers. I contacted the reseller to see if I can have the CPU replaced. In the mean time I can play the game now with turbo off. I works okayish. I did get one more "out of memory " error and switched to dx11. That seems to have solved that problem too. However it's hard to really tell because there are so many paramaters to tweak and so much inconsistency in the outcomes.
