Hi guys I have uploaded my first ever scenario for Train Simulator...

    20191005130650_01.jpg

In August 1999, a total eclipse of the sun took place across the UK. This railtour is loosely inspired by the special trains that ran on the day, taking passengers to the south coast in the hopes of getting a good view. Locomotive: class 37.

You can find it in the Steam workshop, here:

    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2018308147

    Required to play this scenario:

    1) Riviera Line route
    2) Settle and Carlisle route
    3) Armstrong Powerhouse Mirlees class 37 Sound pack - this is what you'll be driving. If you haven't already got it, you should go and download it from their website. It's well worth the £4.99, it comes with free reskins into several liveries.

    20191005130650_02.jpg

Hope you guys liked it! And let me know what you think. Thanks

Running the new Dash 9s out on the Hi-Line tonight. Some MSTS nostalgia for anyone who played that oh so many years ago:

There's some really good shots in here and I liked the route. It's impressive. I'd probably try to keep the number of screens slightly more manageable for a single post though - there are 14 in this post. I'd say pictures 3,4,5,6,7, 9 and 10 are your strongest. :)

Literally all of my weekend plans got cancelled because of Coronavirus (though most of those plans just consisted of staying home and watching Nascar and Indycar), but you know what? It's ok, because now I've got a 3 week spring break and I have more time to spend playing Train Simulator!

I decided to do another scene recreation today. This time, recreating a classic by O Winston Link! I don't really feel like this one is the most accurate compared to my other scene recreations, but I still think it turned out nicely! While The Loco Shop's 611 model may not be the best sound-wise, it is quite photogenic!

Took a few photos over the past few days.

Thanks to Pentrex, learned the SP had trackage rights between Topeka and Kansas City on the UP Marysville sub, took the Dash 9's there.

It is still winter at Doncaster, and today's weather is really poor. But it's not an excuse to let those crowling trains unsorted...

The theme of this week's screenshot contest is "close ups". However, I didn't post this there for fear of being banned... lol.

I am just now discovering Stevens Pass - what a great route. Here are some shots from a run where I subbed in the CP AC4400 on a fantastic workshop scenario by JB Fried called "Into the Hole."

The beauty of the 2020 Screenshots thread is that you can post whatever you want without restriction. It's just that you won't win anything, lol. Maybe we should start a second competition. The winner couldn't be featured on loading screens but it would still be a lot of fun.

I have so many screens that I'd love to enter in the competition, but nearly all of my best material is disqualified. These two are an example: I can't use them because the trains featured aren't available in the Dovetail Store or on Steam.

My new TS challenge: driving HUD less in career scenarios. Only at the end do you find out how many points you lost! The number can be quite large ….

Right now, I am doing it with the Searchlight Simulations CP AC4400 which has distance counter functions so you can know when your last car passes out of a speed restriction. (I was pleasantly surprised that I could sub this in on career scenarios!) Their GEVO enhancement pack also adds this to other in game locos - just hit control A when your engine passes a certain point and you will get an alert when the last car reaches that point.

I am not sure what other locos have this capability- you could always check the rear camera periodically.

Going without the HUD requires great familiarity with the layout and gradients. It also requires precise speed limit signage, both for the start and end of limits and warnings of upcoming limits. Montana Hi-Line seems to have this. What other routes would be good for this?

Some shots from the scenario EB Intermodal:

    Interesting.

Here in the UK, a "doodlebug" refers to something very different: the V1 flying bomb, launched by Nazi Germany against cities in England, especially London, during 1944.

Thousands of V-1 doodlebug missiles were fired from launch facilities along the French (Pas-de-Calais) and Dutch coasts. The Wehrmacht first launched the V-1 to target London on 13 June 1944, one week after the successful Allied landings in Europe. At peak, more than one hundred V-1s a day were fired at south-east England, 9,521 in total, decreasing in number as sites were overrun until October 1944, when the last V-1 site in range of Britain was overrun by Allied forces.

On the other side of the street from where I live, there is a set of buildings from the 1950s. These are entirely out of character with the other buildings in the immediate area. There is one good reason for this: a V1 flying bomb (doodlebug) landed nearby in 1944 and demolished the buildings that previously occupied the site. The place was a bombed out rubble crater until the debris was cleared after the war and new buildings were put up.

Just an interesting fact for a Thursday morning!

Latest project out of the paint shed. Part of a series of 4 promotional cars by CN in 1971 to showcase Canadian industry, CN 370708 was painted up in rainbow colors and the chemical formula for hexamethylene diisocyanate, a common ingredient in paints and dyes, to represent the paint industry. The other 3 cars were a reefer with a cow adorned on it, an insulated boxcar with an apple, and a boxcar with the mastheads of various Canadian newspapers. Hopefully, I'll be able to do all 4, because they're a really cool and unique set of cars that I'm surprised nobody has already done.

Another wonderful steam locomotive from Caledonia Works, the CR439 class from 1895. Pictured on the Western Lines of Scotland route, leaving Stranraer harbour.

Olton Hall on a railtour on the WCML via Shap. This is from the Mainline Halls collection by Steam Sounds Supreme. The coaches are from Armstrong Powerhouse.
20200331223947_1.jpg I did manage to get this heavy 10 coach train over the summit at Shap, with great difficulty. Down below 15mph for an extended period just before the summit. But accelerated to well over 70mph going down the other side!

Some Quick Drive action with a few of my favorite TS locos on Montana Hi-Line. The AI traffic is insane!

Here's a comparison of the Riviera Line from the Railways of Devon 1985 route, and a real photo in the same location:

I know I've posted a lot recently, but I can't resist just one more... Flying Scotsman in 1993, at Paignton :)
