... and ET44AH. Except CSX doesn't operate that line. It is currently operated by the Florida East Coast Railway.
While Brightline does operate a number of commuter trains over the route, according to Amtrak's website, both the Silver Meteor (98 & 97) and Silver Star (92 & 91) still travel this line (but 97 & 91 (southbound) don't stop at West Palm Beach).
No? CSX still operates over the SFRC. It just has to work around TriRail. If you didn't know, there are two lines down there, the FEC WPB - Miami Main, and the SAL (CSX) WPB - Miami Main.
I see, I thought there was only one line operated by FEC. I didn't know they each had their own line.
It's fine, it can get a bit confusing down there. FEC may have been the first to build down there in the 1880's, but in 1920's, Seaboard Air Line decided to build a line from Coleman to Miami to tap into the South Fla. business. and in 1927, it was completed. CSX then sold the ex. SAL main from WPB to Miami in the 1990's so they could build TriRail. CSX still operates some locals, manifests, and K (unit) trains of rock along the line.
I completely forgot the FEC was that old! I live in the northeast where all the "original" railroads have disappeared in mergers. But that makes sense, if FEC was first, they would keep their own line, why get CSX's, it would be nearly redundant right?
Yes, sadly the old railroads down here are gone as well (except FEC obviously), SAL being my personal favorite. You're right about the "redundancy" with FEC buying the ex. SAL, though funnily enough, some people have said FEC should buy the line all the way to Auburndale (where the line currently ends, as CSX ripped up the rest of the line from Coleman to Auburndale in '89, which is still a controversial decision to this day), so FEC could get to the Central Fla. Market. Sorry for the history lesson
The history lesson is okay to me! I love learning the history of railroad's. That's one of the reasons I want an older route in TSW like around the 70s or 60s.
From all the routes I had in Train Simulator, Miami-West Palm beach was definately my least favourite route. It's a long straight railroad, with boring scenery and low speed limits.
If we get a Florida route, we could get one or two FEC diesels as DLC later on. I'd suggest the ES44C4 and GP40-3. An Amtrak Genesis and Brightline SCB-40 (Siemens Charger) would be my suggestions for passenger services. If this route is set in the days of the Seaboard Coast Line, Seaboard Air Line, or Seaboard System we could get some great 1950s-80s diesels (E-Units, F-Units, SD45-2s, and/or U-Boats).
