Good morning all, for those who have not heard the BR class 20 has been confirmed and will release for Tees Valley on the 18th Of June.
Make routes from other countries, but if this is not possible, make routes with modern, English equipment. Or old equipment, but steam ...
Well I'm disappointed. I mean it looks fine, but I wish DTG would just make a route already. They've only been doing rolling stock for what feels like months at this point.
Well the MP15DC and HRR came out 5 days apart so unless you think they made that route in 5 days, there are probably two different (if not more) production lines. If I were to guess, the new route isn't finished yet due to Covid delays so the train people are simply keeping busy.
I won't be purchasing the Class 20 because I don't have Tees Valley. The loco itself looks and sounds interesting.
I like it. It's an iconic loco. And it has an unique design for a BR mainline loco. Than we will get new services, the new limestone wagons and substitution in current service. So that means it brings more variety and railroad experience in TVL.
Thank you! With its doubled cab controls, this looks like a great "companion" to the DB BR 204. I've driven this engine in TS and am happy to see that it's coming to TSW.
There no community manager so that's why it's not up on the discussion. It will be soon though, probably.
I don’t care about new DLC. I want them to fix their buggy old DLC. They haven’t said a word yet on when the M3 will be fixed, and they are already advertising a new addon. Bad look for the company.
Probably not a universally held view this but Im just not interested in any more dlc for worlds that are still feeling sterile, two dimensional and frankly boring with no meaningful reward or progression system.. I'm definitely not interested in buying dlc locos That I then can't use on any of the routes I own. That sky box is still appalling, sunlight reflections still go through walls, green signals all the time. Sorry but that's my view. I suggest the devs go and play ets2 for a week then come back to work. It'll be a better use of their time..
They are maybe getting better reviews if they don't make new DLC's but fix the already existing DLC's, like what Rivet Games now is doing; Fixing the DB BR 204.
A couple of questions regarding the Class 20. Will both the disc variant and the headcode box variant be modelled? Will nameplates be fitted to Thornabys pet 4, ie 20118 Saltburn by the Sea, 20122 Cleveland Potash, 20137 Murray B Hoffmeyr, and 20165 Henry Pease?
Just had a read on Steam about the Class 20 and can answer my own questions! The disc variant seems to be the one modelled, no headcode boxes visible in any of the pictures. And no nameplates. 20122 is identifiable in the pics, and has no nameplate. Still, its a good start
I'm sure it has some historical importance, but it's not very pretty and isn't something i'm initially interested in. I've got TVL and the 31 so this would need to add something significant for me to buy it.
They miss a trick regarding nameplates. While a small detail they do add to the immersion (and accuracy). I often see 45's and 47's on NTP that were named at the time. Even better (well couldn't be worse that current mastery) would be livery skins or iconic engines for completing a number of services or achivements. Class 47 with name and Stratford white roof Class 45 with nameplate Class 40106, the last loco ever in BR green. Retained up until withdrawal and subsequent preservation.
I have selected "yeah sure" but.... unfortunately I won't actually be able to buy the Class 20 for TVL unless the braking controls and the power curve on the Class 47 on NTP are fixed and properly patched. As soon as the Class 47 is fixed..... I will then immediately buy the Class 20. But not before.
I've been asking for this via some of the threads here since release. Surely it's not too time consuming to model a few nameplates and then within the random generator if picked number has a name modelled then place the nameplate on loco, if number does not contain a name then obviously no nameplate. I wouldn't expect every name to be modelled for say the 47 but you could have a few that are included within the random number generator. They did half a job on the Westerns, some carried names, some didn't (though did in real life)
Same here. It's a shame that DTG nearly only adds BR locos when it comes to the UK. Already in the majority but no another BR Loco ... Altough there are great opportunities for DMUs and EMUs. Like pacers, sprinters, turbostars and desiros just to name a few. Looking forward seeing those ...
I think there are extra licensing and permission issues with named locos, like there are with manufacturer plates on locos, as in you can’t just use the name on a loco because it had one in real life. I don’t know the full ins and outs of it, maybe someone else here can explain the full story.
Interesting... I could certainly see it being an issue with current TOC's and or named after current people/companies but let's say for example a British Rail (no longer exist) Class 40, say 40 035 (loco no longer exists) is named in game after 'Apapa' (as in real life) which was an Ocean Liner (no longer exists) owned by a company (Elder Dempster Lines) which no longer exist - where is the licensing issue there I wonder? It would be nice if someone from DTG could actually give a reason as to why!
As I’ve said I’m not an expert on this but British Rail content needs licensing from the UK government and other organisations. If we pick Elder Dempster Lines from your example a quick look at the Wikipedia article for that company tells you which other company bought it and from there you come across acquisitions of that company and before long you could find it difficult to work out who to even ask for permission to use the name of that old ocean liner the original company owned. The naming of the loco in real life would have been subject to agreements at some point and someone will own the rights to the design of the nameplate and possibly the actual nameplate. All these parties may have to agree for you to include the nameplate on your simulated 40 035. It really is just easier to leave the name off the loco.
At the moment I'm looking forward to the chopper. The class 31 on TVL is probably my favourite loco DTG have produced and I imagine this one will be up there quality wise as well. I guess the preview stream will tell all.
