I wonder what we have done wrong in the UK? Want to drive a big American loco - no problem Want to drive a fast German train - no problem Want to drive a British train - Hard Luck - have an underground train The Bakerloo line is 6 and a bit miles from Elephant Castle to Queens Park where it joins Network Rail to Harrow But it runs next to the WCML, pass Willesden Depot, Pass Wembley Sidings to Harrow. I don't see DTG making the WCML without any other trains on it - creating around 30 sidings and buildings with no trains in them Peter
According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_rail_transport_network_size there are 144 countries with railways totally omited from the game. What have we done wrong in the rest of the world?
Look up the word License and it's meaning DTG has to have one to use the logos and branding on it's trains - no logos = no trains = no route And who is to say there is a market to make trains and routes for those countries? Peter
As we have the oldest running railway system in the world it would have been nice to have something a little more iconic than the Bakerloo Line... ho hum!
Russian and japanese trains have a pretty big market for example, to be honest. Those would be nice in my opinion, and also profitable, as a bunch of train fans would join in on TSW who currently has never even considered it.
There are I think 3 Japanese routes in TS2020 but I don't think they sell that well compared with other DLC I don't think the Russians or Japanese would be happy with a short route in TSW
Well they certainly are not the best sellers, but they have great reputation. And I think the main issue is that they're all rural lines, while most japanese train fans love city commuter lines. For example I think Yamanote Line could be perfect. An iconic, well known route in the heart of Tokyo. Short enough for TSW standards (damn that sounds sad to say it this way), it's a loop line, but really engaging because of all the stops. With 2 types of trains you basically have their full rolling stock (as they always retire their old trains early). I bet it would generate a tons of attention if it came to TSW. Or Osaka Loop maybe, kinda similar concept, but less busy and less interesting. Maybe Union Workshop (the guys who did all the asian DLCs for TS1) could get into the partner program with DTG and do something. Considering what they achieved with TS1 (their routes are beautiful), imagine what they could do with TSW.
I actually think the London Underground was a great call. Iconic, and unique, as neither TS1 nor TSW did much subway type of things before. Definitely helps broading the spectrum and adds variety.
I think the Bakerloo line as some DLC would have been great, I would have bought it, however I have to say I am disappointed that a non underground route wasn't chosen as the UK route in this release. That is just my personal view obviously and I will still purchase TSW2. Personally I am surprised an underground route is the most requested, I haven't got that impression from these forums, but obviously I don't have the data DTG have. I hope some non-underground UK DLC follows quickly behind, as I have to say I think a few runs on the Bakerloo line and I will have lost interest in the route (I have found the same on ECW, yet something like TVL I keep going back to) and partly TSW2. The German route looks good. I don't enjoy slow rural freight only USA routes, I only ran it a couple of times when TSW first came out and that was only because the sim was something new, so potentially the initial TSW2 has one route with much replay value for me.
As someone else mentioned, their focus for TSW2 for the first year is High Speed Rail. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some Japanese and French HST routes I can imagine it's difficult communicating and licensing though. Would be awesome to drive TGV or Shinkansen!
Oh it would definitely be awesome to drive the Shinkansen (especially if it was the old 0 series one), though I don't see how all this "focus on high speed rail" thing will work out if they stick to these short route lengths. They really need to try making longer routes while keeping the scenery detail at the same time.
That didnt answer my question, did it?? Edit : If I've got know idea why hes said it, it's clearly not important. In TSW and TS1 you get German, US, UK routes and the TGV is a Frenxh train. So would have to be 3rd party.
Is that definite? It would make sense as they obviously have done the research, although there are many routes I would like to see in TS1 which have not been covered yet, it would be good to see them in either sim.
Anyone stating an opinion about what routes are or aren't planned for TSW2 is speculating and nothing more. We've said nothing on the topic.
