(I thought this was fitting for a first image here) For a while, I've been holding back all my screenshots for any potential screenshot competition, so I don't miss any chance to win one. First off, not only is that way overvaluing the quality of some of these screenshots, but way underestimating the number of screenshots I take in this game. That limit of 2 screenshots per contest and the whole theme thing really makes that a terrible idea. So, I'm starting a thread and dumping a bunch of screenshots on it, just like everyone else. Hopefully they will be better than the lame humor in this OP...
First, I thought I'd start with a few that would be automatically disqualified from the weekly contests... At first, this might seem to be a normal day at Penn Station, and maybe it is... but in that case I'm not sure I have all my signal aspects down, because I'm a bit confused as to what I'm supposed to do when I encounter a "seizure" aspect. Impostor geep or MSTS flashback? You decide!
Throwback time... all of the following screenshots were from when CSX:HH was the only route in the game. This one right here is actually the first screenshot I ever took, unless I did anything in the beta that I forgot about. A quiet night... but not for long. GREEN! My eyes hurt a bit after looking at this picture... also, no exhaust on the lead engine? Strange... This one's kinda nice, actually... not much to say here. I wish CSX still used geeps like this though... if the services were more realistic everything would be pulled by an AC4400CW maybe with an SD40-2 trailing somewhere. No idea where any of these pictures actually are on the route, by the way.
Thanks! That means a lot coming from one of the leading figures in the art of TSW screenshotting, if that was a thing at least! Snowy day in New York, with a bunch of close-up detail shots, simply because the detail is there:
In preparation for the new route with the 101, I tried running the 101 the other day to see if I still had the hang of it and I was *only* running several minutes late and only completely overshot stations at like 40 mph twice! I'm sorry, I don't mean to brag. In no particular order: Speeding along, because clearly speed is what these things do best, right? Sun Slaithewaite is really easy to overshoot, I tell you! Cab shot that looks cool but would probably blind the driver in real life Big smokestack, small train.
Nice shots indeed. No idea that there can be two GP38s with the same numbers, at the same time. Good eyes man, good eyes
Thank you! In late commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the a certain transcontinental railroad, I decided to play a bit of CSX:HH, as it's the only mainline American freight mountain pass thing we have. Ok, yes, I did try to go out and catch some trains, but Friday was really kind of insane and I the time i had to railfan just so happened to be the least busy time of day... I sat by the tracks for an hour and all the signals stayed red, I only caught one local thingy heading into a yard (on a nearby, unsignalled track, so yes the signals were still red), and I just decided I was hungry and left. I was also gonna actually travel somewhere busier the next day, but instead I just slept in, so... at least I have some screenshots. The AC4400CW does look pretty cool in game, even if it sounds terrible to be honest. Another angle of the same train in similar scenery Meet on Sand Patch Summit! No, this isn't going to be for the screenshot competition... I have a few ideas for that! Same train again, but the TRAILING unit this time! Another meet, but this time with different power!
Oh, and while I was driving, this happened: I feel like something's missing... hmm... but then it got worse: Flying train! This was probably the worst LOD issues I've ever experienced, it was fun while it lased but thankfully it fixed itself not too long after the invisible bridge.
Someone on the "What's your favorite service?" thread mentioned the 08:36 class 166 service to Reading on GWE as it's the only service in the whole game to stop at Hanwell. Withnot muchelse to do, I did it... only to reach AS FAR AS TWYFORD before getting curious and IN THE FREE CAMERA MODE flying down the branch line to see how far they had detailed it- for those who aren't aware, for some reason, even the external camera causes the session to end. Bummer. I didn't save. nor did I get a screenshot at Hanwell! A wasted opportunity. But the drive started out with a nice race: Another angle, I'm in the lead now! Same trains, two different speeds at Ealing Broadway, unless this isn't Ealing Broadway, in that case it's the same trains at two different speeds somewhere else. That passing 166 had a meet with an HST in the opposite direction. I spun around and hit CTRL+ F12 (should have just hit F12 for the motion blur, oh well), but clearly my timing was... uh... not great. Stupid pole! Also, there's an uncollected collectable in this picture... even worse!
Obligatory new route screenshot dump! Thornaby Depot really likes birds, apparently I found a railroad crossing- I mean level crossing, right- without any lights! I assume this is prototypical, but it does look kinda strange to me... It's not all about the 37, you know... there's also this thing! And the 37! Ok, I'll admit that the 37 is the newest and therefore most interesting thing in the route to me, although the 08 has some really good new sounds and physics as well. I'll give you a moment to figure out what exactly is going on here. This isn't an exterior camera view, and I was *supposedly* driving the train... ...eh, it was in slow speed control anyways. Perfectly safe, right? Oh, AND I FORGOT THE MARKER LIGHTS! Lastly, I just ran the 08 down the more scenic end of the TVL with a passenger service. Here we see it picking up passengers at Bishops Ldyeard. Wait, what? (Shh- don't tell DTG!)
Of course, that wasn't the only release today! We also saw the release of the long-awaited CSX PHYSICS UPDATE! And it came with LIGHTNING! And... no GP40-2 or NEC changes whatsoever, which is interesting, makes me think there will be a CSX update part 2 at one point. Lighting changes are obvious the moment you leave he loading screen. This AC4400CW cab looks a lot nicer and more shaded now. Here's what the lighting looks like from the outside. Pretty nice, huh? Yeah... I can't handle the fame of winning the screenshot contest. Now I have to take this picture every time I pass the summit. It's unhealthy, I know (joking, of course... probably). The tunnel looks better before we even go into it! Inside the tunnel- it's actually dark! Crazy, right?
The titel of this thread very clearly says an "obnoxious amount" of screenshots. Do you call 39 screenshots (yes, I just counted them) obnoxious? I didn't think so. I'm not going to go around promoting false advertising here, so have this! Uh, it always seems standard to post screenshots of new releases, and two DLC have been released since I have last posted pictures on here. But I don't have either of them, so I guess I'll just post pictures of the Class 08 from TVL (as it was also in the better of the two new DLC I don't have) and maybe just random NEC stuff later on. Just a nice shot of the Class 08 that feels kind of like one of the marketing shots from an article announcing it. Looks pretty cool in it, though. This shot is definitely more rad than filler. Not the best shot, but there are not one but TWO 08's in here! I'm calling that a win. I was gonna submit this into the screenshot contest with the "Yards" theme, but I just kinda forgot so here it is And here we have yet another totally normal class 08 in its natural habitat. This is totally Tees Yard, no clue what you're talking about. And yes the red marker light isn't on, I get it. While I don't have a Class 40, here's a 37, which looks more or less the same anyway *ducks and runs for cover*
PLOT TWIST! Almost a YEAR later, and I'm reviving this thread! I've mostly been playing Peninsula Corridor lately, I've bought both expansions for it and I love it. It's got a nice amount of variety, as well as feeling the most complete of any route in the game... not much else they COULD add to it, really. Got a nice meet here, I guess... not much to say though, that I can think of. I dunno, I just felt that the detail of the light shining through the door there gave off some kind of... atmosphere or something... I don't know what I'm talking about either, just take the dang picture! An AI train gets delayed by my poor driving. It's just heading to the depot, so it's low priority, pffft... I'm sure I'll be more annoyed when I get around to driving the service myself, though. THERE'S A PLANE!!! WAIT I found an EVEN BETTER plane one Seriously I've got loads of these screenshot things.. I'm just hitting CTRL+F12 constantly all the time. I checked the folder and there were over 20 GB (!!!) of JUST SCREENSHOTS
MORE CALTRAIN BECAUSE WHY NOT Ok, this isn't Caltrain, but... close enough This... um, this still isn't Caltrain, but you get the idea. Same route! This... IS Caltrain, I was debating whether I should just have cut to another route for the joke or not but I had a theme going, dang it, and this is a good picture anyways. The lighting at Millbrae is always... atmospheric. ...ok, fine. This isn't Caltrain. Different route this time. I couldn't resist. I do love the utter and complete desolation on parts of this route, though... again, very atmospheric. You see, if done INTENTIONALLY (unlike *certain* routes), landscapes completely devoid of anything CAN still be high quality!
Thank you! Some people find motion blur really annoying while actually playing the game. I don't really mind it, but I certainly hope that we can all agree that it can make for some cool screenshots, because if you don't agree, too bad. Here are some pictures with motion blur. Here's a motion blur picture taken just moments after a screenshot 2 posts up Here's a somewhat awkward attempt at a creative angle on MP15DC's I like this one. Here's a nice dramatic Bombardier Cab Car screenshot. I sat here for a solid 2 minutes trying to come up with a sarcastic comment on how non-aerodynamic it is compared to the other end of the train, but I couldn't think of anything actually funny. And one non-Caltrain picture just to round things off a bit. The effect here is much more subtle, but I still think it helps the focus and everything... I dunno. YOU DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING
("Upload File" or just drag the picture into the post. If you're taking CTRL+F12 screenshots, you have to resize them or make the JPG's (or both) first, otherwise they're too big) I, uh, have no idea where you got that quote from... heh...
It was there below what you posted after you liked my post. I have been seeing some strange posts that are and to reply want let me then they're not there. Thanks for the help on posting pictures.
