While sat in the cab of the Class 20 I distinctly heard a chap mention there was a manual. Very often there’s a bloke in the cab of your new locomotive or multiple unit telling you there is a manual. Whenever you try to track this fella down to show you where this manual is, he’s nowhere to be seen. Sometimes there is a manual to be found and sometimes it’s late but quite a few times he’s been outed as a liar because there is no manual. Only time will tell if he’s telling porkies this time.
There is no manual for the class 20. I am reliably informed that the class 31 manual will do the job as the control scheme is virtually identical.
So you guys made a tutorial that tells you to check the manual for more info. Then you didn't include a manual. That's a big oof moment right there.
Also, if the manual is so similar, surely the more professional option would be to take the 31 manual, replace the screenshots. Find and replace the number 31 with the number 20 and reissue it? Not all users of TSW are experienced, and it would be of great help to have the correct documentation. Stuff like the AWS isolation is in different places. The fact the master key is only on one desk. Or if you can't manage this, get Matt to record that line again...
BR Driver instructor to trainee driver "OK, this is the Class 20, I take it you've familiarised yourself with the Class 20 drivers manual" Trainee Driver "No, we were not issued with one" Instructor "Oh, oh OK, hang on, I'm sure we've got a Class 31 Drivers manual here somewhere, that'll do........." Trainee Driver
wish they did release the same class 20 as in train simulator 2020 that one has speed control nice for unloading wagons
Maybe there should be a manual. Ive had good fun this week however, figuring the mechanisms out for myself. Theres the casual aspect- sure but pls DTG dont forget those of us that are into TSW for the authenticity , the learning and the challenge.
Got to give DTG some historically accurate credit in this regard. When English Electric introduced their Type 1 diesel, as it was known then, their own printing and drawing rooms were closed due to an outbreak of influenza. Not wanting to the delay the roll out to British Railways of their brand new locomotive and loose money, drivers were invited en masse to jump in the cab press buttons, pull leavers and just play with it along the line. Most of these drivers, having spent years driving steam engines and educated only at a poor grammar school level wouldn't of understood the concept of field divert, traction motor flash off or second stage field weakening so it wasn't worth teaching them. EE felt it was a fairly bullet proof product and it was able to undertake this novel approach to driver training.
Not not all new players have the depth of railroading knowledge we see from many on these forums and I sense that a lot of players, new and not so new, would benefit if a manual or guide were always part of any release package. There are some excellent user-produced guides related to TSW that people have found helpful. But as I don't know if the Forum rules permit posting their location, I won't. If DTG Protagonist thinks it appropriate, I'm sure he can post them.
