The revamped HH route looks like this so I am hoping ALL future TSW 2 routes will follow with this. There really is no excuse for sparse distant terrain anymore.
We can hope. Sand Patch looks great, we will soon see how the German ICE route looks like. As for the Londod Underground route, I doubt there is much distant hilliness going on there.
Distant Terrain Will look better, thats confirmed. They have new techniques to make it better with no fps damage... but this is scince RRO i think... But i assume it Is getting better in tsw2
Look closely, it’s no different. It’s all about the angle the picture is taken at. If you look just above the back of the leading loco you can see it’s the same old same old.
Until we see some actual gameplay, not screenshots or promotional video, only DTG know and they haven't said a great deal yet. Anything else is pure speculation.
Matt said one of the benefits of the new engine meant they could populate the distant hillsides with proper trees and not have a slowdown in performance. We’ll have to see the game actually running to make our own judgements.
I think you misunderstood him. This is not related to the new engine, just experience on how to do things. Originally on Sand Patch Grade they used the same tree objects for distant scenery that they used for trackside foliage, I believe. Sure, as they were futher away the game rendered them with lower poly LODs, but it still wasn't really performance friendly and it looked horrible because of the empty space between them. Judging by the screenshots, now they use entirely 2D trees in the distance, and much more of them. This eliminates the empty space between them, so the distant hillsides look much better, while also being more performance friendly. A much better technique, but I believe it's not UE engine version related. They just used a bad method to do it first time.
...and that technique has been used since the German route that wound everyone up for being too short. Wuppertal was it? I forget the names. The technique is new to SPG because, as Dinos says, that route originally had about 3 million 3D speed trees on it. If they’ve developed it further than great, but don’t think it’s something brand new. Of course SPG will look and run better, because they’ve removed all those FPS hogging 3D trees 3 miles from the track!
Exactly. That's why SPG was not available on console. As far as the current screenshots we have got there is no substantial improvement in anything graphics-wise compared to latest TSW routes. As already said by Matt they have not improved anything like shadows or similar aspects.
Trees are very important as they are everywhere we look. Train drivers, like car drivers spent most of their time looking out the window and operating the main controls through muscle memory. The most glaring difference between TSW and TS is the absence of distant trees. It really does ruin the immersion.
Is distant tress but also TSW has no depth of field. Scenery a couple of miles down the line is as stark and in focus as what’s right in front of you. Another of the many issues that has barely been acknowledged.
