I’m Ok with The New HUD However I Would love It very Much if You could Add and Option for The Original for Players Like me Who Prefer the Old DTG Protagonist
No, sam said in the stream on wednesday, that there will be no option to switch huds on tsw 2, happy to be corrected if im wrong?
I think the original post has been misread by everyone... It appears that the original post is actually asking if the feature can be added to allow both HUDs to work
No, i read it correctly, ability to change back to the origional HUD on tsw 2, assuming he means the tsw 2020 hud? Which is a no
“I would love it very much if you could add...” sounds like a request to add a function, not a question as to if it already is possible. That would have started something like “Can you use the...” so plenty of half-reading of the OP going on. It’s clearly a request. The answer will probably still be a no though, despite the old saying “Two HUDs are better than one”.
Nope, you read wrongly. The only people who can say no to a suggestion is DTG themselves. I agree it's unlikely to happen, but there's also no harm in asking if they can look at implementing it.
From what has been posted by Protagonist it is going to be nearly impossible to change anything related to the HUD for release on Aug 20th, so I wouldn't keep my expectations high for this one. This doesn't mean they can't add it later.
Offering multiple HUD options is not a small amount of work. A small amount of work would be adding passenger announcements... Which would you rather have? (This is a rhetorical question - we've no plans to do either.)
The text font and size should be changed, I found it really hard to read during the streams. The font in TSW 2020 was fine.
If it's a small amount of work, then I'll look forward to seeing them soon However, on a serious note, as this is a genuine suggestion that I've seen raised a few times on forums / discord etc, it would be nice for it to be considered, even if it doesn't materialise.
Maybe give the new HUD a chance and see if it works for you. It may take some time to get used to it.
The trouble is the new hud is getting messy, trying to convey too much. It needs to stick to the basics and avoid unnecessary icons. The Kiss principle. I did like AndrewF’s suggestion for alternative Hud’s on the Steam workshop. Or perhaps a key toggle between a basic hud and a complex one, modern or classic.
From what I can see, the new HUD does stick to the basics. As the new game focuses on adhesion, the new areas of the hud are to help you understand what your train is doing.
In my opinion, the new HUD is ok overall, but few areas are pretty bad compared to the current HUD. In particular this: It is just too much space occupied for the gradient and the force direction indicator icon was nicer and less invasive before...
Yeah, I really don't see the reason to have a full train icon to show your gradient, when the old small arrow worked just fine. Overall the whole thing seems a bit messy compared to the minimalistic TSW HUD, but well, we'll get used to it anyway. Also I try to drive without HUD if possible, so I may not even see it that much.
The gradient indicator on the old HUD was too small, especially if you used the 1/200 style reading instead of 0.5% style like I do. I’m not sure there’s a need for a huge train icon going up the hill though, in space that could have been used to make the digits even bigger, but at least it is more prominent now. It’s the only thing telling us the gradient (as you can’t tell any other way) so I‘m glad it gets pride of place now.
Wouldn’t it have been easier to meld the inclinometer with the acceleration bar? Leave it horizontal and just tilt it up at either end. And as for the driver’s head icon, why is it even necessary? More fluff. I’ll just have to learn to live with it, but it would be nice if it was modable.
I prefer the new HUD. The information is more clear. It's good that the brake dials have numbers now.
